I bought a used 1999 Iswara not long ago (I'm 4th owner LOL). So i went for general inspection in a workshop nearby town.
Then they told me......my engine got leaks and need to perform top overhaul. I ask how much....its below RM1K. Wow....don't have that much money. So, after research through Iswara clubs forum in here and others. I inspect the engine by myself. It seems that the leak is from the distributor. Cut story short, i DIY-ed open the distributor and changed the O-ring for RM2. Wallah! No more leaks! Achievement from being scammed! Here's picture from the process of changing O-ring: Marking the position using marker and liquid paper.... ![]() Opening the distributor's cap ![]() Look, it's oily...really hopped distributor itself not leaking....pheww.... ![]() Took out the distributor....wow, all that engine oil gunks! How many years it's been leaking? The solidified engine oil below distributor it's about 1-2 cm thick! ![]() Fitted new O-ring! ![]() After two weeks of O-ring replacement and carburetor tuning, here's my spark plug condition: ![]() ![]() One question..... can i use 10W40 for my engine? I'm still using old engine oil when got the car from the dealer. He said the engine oil was changed. I don't trust that guy. |

QUOTE(Albert B @ Feb 17 2015, 12:59 PM) From the plug pictures, your engine seems to be in quite good condition for a 15 yr old car - no fouling from valve seal leak, the plug colour fits very well in those plug reading guides for good engine condition. Even your plug ground electrode shows timing heat marks (see attached). Thank you very much for the guide bro! |

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Feb 17 2015, 02:10 AM) good job DIY There's plenty of EO debate for old engines like iswara....I became unsure. consider replacing valve cover gasket as well as for engine oil, can ignore the value before w, and yes xw40 is a very common viscosity for our 4g1x engine. Proton originally specified xw50, Mitsubishi overseas specified xw30 with very old API rating, so i went with that |

Hi guys, long time no see! went bora2 island before CNY due to /k issue....
Wanna ask your opinion.... my shock abs felt hard, the dashboard sounds and shakes heavily when driving through uneven roads or potholes....but when driving in flat road or highway, the driving experience is smooth. When i tried pushing down the car to test the shocks, there is sound of psst psst at front absorber. Does my shocks fail already? I plan to change iron cast header to extractor 4-2-1 |

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Mar 5 2015, 11:03 PM) Hmm Kent20 sounded familiar... well, i guess kweng's exhaust not worth it. too cheapskate, i'll suffer later... Anyways, all I have to say is: you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. I need to replace my mid bullet and rear muffler but can't be bothered atm. And lol my sister need to live with an ah beng exhaust kent20 is the one who sells in Redlinemax2u post... since he's not replying.... later i'll try contact mfa next for his extractor. extra question: does kayaba / sachs gas shocks worth it? i heard gas shock abs a bit stiffer, ppl installed them in heavier vehicles compared to our lightweight iswara ... how stiff actually? my current shock abs oredi kong i guess....driving over potholes/uneven roads makes my car noisy & shakes like hell. QUOTE(jedi_master @ Mar 6 2015, 10:44 PM) yeah powerzone extractor is proven stuff but if you want to feel more difference take the opportunity to change end to end exhaust. put one large s flow at the end enough, find a silent one cap ayam also ok. piping 1.8 inch should be fine. midbox no need la.. save money some people say straight flow better but noisy, s-flow quieter but sluggish acceleration... i'm confused. Can clarify ?But i went to an exhaust shop today, an old uncle also recommend s-flow for pickup. Today try survey extractor in my hometown....the shop i went got a 'cap ayam' 421 extractor for iswara about RM150 inc. installation, without flexible pipe aka 'nenas'. the bends look like pressed, not a mandrel. nope. Extra question... Regarding radiator, 2morrow will change timing belt and water pump....wanna flush my rusty radiator....but before or after water pump replacement? QUOTE(Albert B @ Mar 9 2015, 08:36 PM) Go no faster than 110 km/h – government mulling idea of installing speed limiting devices on all vehicles that device buy from who? more songlap? Here’s something that’ll absolutely delight all you speedsters. Bernama reports that the government is mulling with the idea of installing speed limiting devices in all vehicles, “all” being an all-encompassing term here – think along the lines of passenger cars and motorcycles, not just commercial vehicles. The proposal – aimed at being a measure to curb the growing number of road accidents and fatalities – would see a maximum speed of 110 km/h defined by the limiter, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said. “Limiting the speed of all vehicles is a suitable method to reduce road accidents in the country,” he said, adding that it would be in line with the law in Malaysia to set a maximum speed limit of 110 km per hour. “If this can be implemented, then we will become the first country in the world to limit vehicle speed car based on speed limits in accordance with national law,” he told reporters at an event. Abu Bakar said that the speed limiting device was easily available, and it can be installed on all vehicles, including motorcycles and imported cars. “The device, which can limit speed as required, costs less than RM500,” he added. He said police patrol cars, ambulances, fire engines and vehicles from other appropriate law enforcement agencies would be exempt from these regulations. ==edit== here is the link from Bernama. http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v8/bm/ge/ne....php?id=1114920 better solve problem regarding private driving school and jpj corruption to curb traffic accidents. speed kills. monkey drivers murder. |

Does anyone heard Wegow brand exhaust systems?
Quoted RM230 for Iswara 421 Extractor with flexible pipe 'nenas'. The pipe bends are better than brandless 'cap ayam' extractors in other shop i surveyed not long ago. |

QUOTE(Albert B @ Mar 9 2015, 10:42 PM) The dep. minister's statement about the cause of accidents and cheapness of the device etc is out-of-touch with the real world situation. It will go the way of the 3 blinking speed indicator lights fixed on top of heavy vehicles many many years back. And if implemented will mean every vehicle owner have to fork out money to some govt. approved agency to instal... And besides the measures you mentioned, JPJ should go undercover and catch those reckless drivers on the road. Those dangerous drivers can cause serious damage even at less than half the 110 km/hr speed, and should face very heavy penalties... |

Brief report about cap ayam extractors to low yat 82 jedi_master and all sifus & members here!
Today I changed my stock manifold to 4-2-1 extractor with flexible pipe 'nenas' with damage of RM230...But its an ordinary steel material not the stainless steel one. The brand is ALCRO. I thought it was Wegow. The shop owner said wegow already slow down in business, perhaps bankrupt already. I dunno. But the bends are still quite decent, the extractor itself is solid and thick steel. Compared to other shop's brandless cap ayam extractor that i surveyed the other day.....RM 150 without flexible pipe aka nenas but lightweight..... knocking the body sounds like tin milo ( i exaggerated a bit ) but you know the idea. The extractor pic: ![]() Before the welding.....the stock pipe is much smaller. Upgrade to 1.7" later? ![]() After installation: ![]() Comments: Pickup noticeably lighter. Driving with 3 passengers now feels like driving alone when still using stock manifold. Now my right foot feels heavy. Before buy a budget cap ayam extractor....check the thickness of metals, the pipe bends decent or not. Cap ayam mods is just pure luck, i would say. If got money, as all sifus said....recommended to go for reputable manufacturer. Sure won't regret. This post has been edited by zedyll: Mar 15 2015, 08:17 PM |
