 How to jump higher?

im 187cm,82kg and 16 years old this year..hoping to dunk(basketball) next year.just wondering are there any tips to jump higher..i heard jogging helps but i too lazy to try.. tongue.gif ..ill probably start my workout after my SPM.. biggrin.gif

jumping higher? lmao....least you got the height.

listen to darklight, squats and deadlifts, increase your upper body strength also

and

do some explosion related stuff.. i cant remember the name, starts with p

squat hops and all. find air alert 3 if you want, but i tell you this. there are reports that it screws up your knees

i heard that the "tiaosheng" 跳绳 is very useful for jump higher!!!

the power of jump is in the calf n thigh, work that part in gym or go up down the batu caves stairs. another factor but not sure workable.. use air jordan shoes... the one you pump air one. hope works.

Pylometrics worked for me. tongue.gif I'm 178cm and can grab a 10ft3inch rim with both hands. Still painfully short of being able to dunk. laugh.gif
The rims that are shorter than 10ft are more possible for me tho.

What they said is right, you gotta concentrate on building up your calf, thigh and ab muscles. Make sure you work towards explosive power and not brute force. Dedication too haha. Last time I did this when I was still in college and single, so I had free time to work on this for more than half a year.

well like darklight said, squats. you need to have muscles capable of propelling your bodyweight up.

you dont really need jumping aids, you need a gym.

tho Pylometrics will work somewhat it has a factor about it its not really power training, power is best from lifting weights. so if you expect good results get a gym.

squat and power clean man.. it will solve your problem.. squats to build strength and power clean to build explosiveness.. but as this is a very advance lift.. u have to get proper assistance to learn this lift.. good luck.

google up a plyometrics program called 'air alert'. a few years back i used this program and i was able to touch the rim (i'm only 170 cm wink.gif )

jump high is not only use your thigh and calves or leg's muscles. You also need your mid-section muscles as the abs and the back to make the explosive jump higher, just like how the cheetah use their mid section to run on high speed, their whole body act like a spring.

you can get it off the net for free....search it.

but a warning before attempting air alert. it is critical you have basic jumping built, no point goin into the 3rd week and cant finnish half the stuff they throw at you. so its still good to get a gym and get your basic strength working. considering you being at 180++ and cant grab the rim, you've got lots more to go.

also note that do air alert with bball shoes, and no jumping on concrete...do it on carpet and on shoes.. if not long term injury.

also note that there are reports of AA screwing up your knees due to it stressing it extensively. take note, its a risk...calculate it and look into it.

lastly AA requires 3 mths, and well its a very very hard program. so chances are you can say goodbye to most stuff.

so,overall does it works ?hav anyone tried?how much had you improve your abillity in vertical jumping?really can jump 8inch hier in 3 month?

it does work, i tried it but it was too taxing. so i stop, nevertheless a lot of people claimed it worked on them.

see the point is this, how much it increases depends on you. its recommended for you to play on rest days, to get muscle memory. and also depending on how fast your body heals and stuff.

Like everybody said, don't concentrate on your legs only. Workout your overall body. Ain't nice/fun to see you dunk at the same time getting push around during the game wink.gif

U know lion Dance? Join them... you'll be physically trained .. and it's free.. haha
I have some fren in Lion Dance group.. they are less than 170, but can jump higher than me (cm ,able to touch rim but not slam)..

U are too heavy... go find a place with lots of stairs and start frog jumping

why not work out the lower?

point is this, you need to be strong upper and lower to jump.

i agree, talk with american semi-pros or college league level basket ballers, they can give you advice on what weight to be at for different positions, what drills to run and such.

not all born with "string" legs.

I cannot dunk tongue.gif
my friend 196cm cannot dunk


not all 188cm can jump like Hanamichi Sakuragi.
proper training is needed for a 188cm to dunk.

I tried Air Alert before, after a couple of weeks, developed symptoms of tendonitis in my knees so I stopped doing it. (Yes I was being a cheapo and getting it free off the net. laugh.gif)
Later I bought Mad Bounce, that one worked, I stuck with it, going through the whole regime twice over the course of a year. Basically about 3 days a week you gotta do the exercises, I played basketball nearly everyday as well too. College life = free time. biggrin.gif

Haha I can understand this. After awhile, ppl I play with just bump me away whenever I'm near them, so it's harder now. Gotta sneak in from afar and jump before they know I'm there. laugh.gif I'm 178cm, but only 62kg, so I'm really thin. sad.gif
