(depend on how dirty your house electrical current is) just to be safe ask for additional warranty coverage usually top up a little...

I'm an electronic engineer who worked in panasonic for 5 years, recently switch to UK based vacuum cleaner company. As compare between Japanese and EU consumer product, i just have to say the part quality of the Japanese consumer device nowadays is pathetic, the QC, production quality is good, but the problem lies on the part itself. Panasonic is a struggle giant (although the best among the struggle giants in Japan), the main activity is VE for them, that's why the electronic component they used is mostly a dirt cheap low quality electronic part sourced from China. Although they did alot of accelerate reliability test during design stage, but still the real time degradation is very difficult to predict, that's why you will see alot of 'claimed' Japanese technology failed after short period. From the outsider they see Panasonic is good and reliable brand, from an insider point of view, i actually not really confident with it.

Nowadays those bloody japs are mainly reducing cost in quality and concentrating on 'hauling' as much profits as possible back to their country. In a Japanese factory, there will always a double quality standard exist. Those products for global shipment, will apply quality tolerance. But those products that mainly for their homeland Japan, the outputs must be zero tolerance, means 'zero defect' or perfect!!! Really sucks!!! Imagine if a 1hp Panasonic inverter aircond need RM2.5k, how many Malaysian willing to pay for it? As you said the V6 thingy is freaking expensive here, but this is the model that mainly support the company currently by Japan market. For them they don't mind at all. When i came across the thread here and read so many of you the aircond capacitor failed, board fried just within 5-7 years usage, how pathetic for such quality.

But anyway, i will still go for Panasonic CS-S10RKH for my 1st aircond purchase this weekend, i have no choice, to me all those Japanese and Korean brand are just the same, just the matter of luck. Go for Panasonic mainly due to there are more users here, cheaper spare part, and maybe slightly better after sale service.
Actually i will move to my new house probably end of this year, i'm now rent a house. My urgent need is for my little baby girl, the sleeping room is just too hot for her to stay, so i have no choice to buy now, and dismantle to new house later.

That's why they can sell it at premium price, but they still selling well although not in here. I'm not sure the unit from ebay is retail unit or unit from staff purchase. We actually can buy any Dyson model in half price with half period of warranty (retail 5 years warranty). Anyway, this is business decision, i'm just a little engineer that can do nothing on that.
