If you do that, you can't do anything. Can't eat. Can't buy anything. Seriously.

It's not feasible to do a conversion for everyday purchases like food and groceries because these are necessities. Before you come to Australia, you would already have known the expected living costs and would have taken into account an average inflation of 4% and an exchange rate which fluctuates between 2.7 to 3.0, so I think there should be funds set aside just to accomodate that.

Well i have always been wondering will one do the other way round, which is to convert everything from RM to AUD when one gets back to Malaysia for holiday? I haven't went back yet since coming to Australia so i have no idea about that, but i'm thinking that if you are already used to buying everything in AUD, would you feel that everything somehow becomes alot cheaper when you go back home?

i'm not going to convert to anything unless im earning here for myself....
but since i'm new here.......

wat i mean is to those who r still using their FAMA funds, how can u be not converting when ur parents r earning RM?

seriously i m really save and safe when dealing with buying things... the reason i say about 25 thingy is because some1 ask about the cost of living... tats the truth n easy understanding.

but of course... to those who r financially capable(parents), ignore me.

every1 notice that how large sum they have spend here, but they just dun wan to face it...maybe to avoid feeling guilty

if 25 per day thats means 1 week would be 175 @@ indeed pretty expensive XD but that is normal if study abroad.

its not to avoid feeling guilty, its just to be realistic. if you calculate that way everyday, you can do absolutely nothing. everyone has done that at some point in time, especially during their freshman year, but no one really cares after 1 or 2 mths. i myself did the same, but u know what? the 2 mths that i did that, i lived an amazingly miserable life. eat out? think twice. buy something thats not on promo? wait for weeks until its cheaper. want to watch mov? god its so expensive, pass.

well, things changed after a while. i realized that if i were to live like a person running away from loan sharks, i could have stayed back in malaysia instead. smile.gif don't torture yourself. if you really can't afford bearing the guilt(which we all have to, unless u struck lottery and paid for your own studies and living costs), get a job, and live a normal life.

Is it wise to take a loan from the University itself ?
What's the interest rate ?

As far as I know, no Australian university offer's loans for students. It is usually through FEE-HELP. However, as international students I doubt we have that privilege.

I'm thinking of joining Adelaide University. Anyone here from Adelaide University? What's the rental for a flat or apartment with one room and kitchen in Adelaide? Thanks...

i thought i said it twice already right? ur parents afford to make u in that way...u have got the priviledge to say my parents pay me in aus dollar, so its ok to spend the rate of ppl earning here as long as i did the responsible of a wise buyer(which i think every normal person should do whenever they r).
so i say it again.. to those who r financially capable(parents), ignore me.

n jaspering.... not 25 per day bro. 25 per meal , normal ppl take 3 meals a day. there r cheaper food with smaller size also, but it wont be rm5 for a bowl of noodle.

ppl above r right, about take a job n earn. thats the only way. so any nice part time jobs that u wanna share about?

I already have that in mind as being a part-timer when I'm there studying. but at the moment, I just can't stop looking at the exchange rate, it keeps on rising, GOD!!!... Just some previous preparation, maybe is too early, but just don't know why, was looking at it whenever I pass by a money changer counter.
