Bingo. I used around RM500 for petrol itself. Noted the transaction at pump as well. Read the whole thread from page 1 sweat.gif

Don't' have much to pay for utilities.

Groceries will be my next choice, although I don't spend much on groceries. Gotta accumulate to buy everything in a month time sad.gif

By the way, anyone tried Econsave? Is it categorized under Groceries?

If you don't spend much (<RM200) on groceries, consider choosing dining instead (if you spend more on it). It's hit and miss, but you can always 'test' to see what MCC it is. Or if you currently using another CC, just call their CS and ask for MCC after you've spent.

Based on previously in OCBC thread, we figured out that if the restaurant serves alcohol (like a pub or bar) higher chance to not have the correct MCC. And that any place which is connected to another shop (for example coffee places inside a bookshop) sure won't have.

Thank you for your advice.

But I don't really pay much for dining as well. Spending for dining is not fixed.

Kinda difficult for me to make the 2nd choice of category actually. laugh.gif

Currently using MBB 2 cards, but I could not claim petrol on weekends. That's why need to look for another card with CB.

Do what I do, find a relative (in my case my parents) and offer to pay their utility bill every month. They pay you back in cash. Most people's bills are about the same amount every month so quite easy to plan.

In my case is I give them the rebate la, but you could also keep the rebate for yourself brows.gif

Similar to me paying phone bills for family and in-laws.
Can increase the transaction from one time RM50 to average 3 or 4 times.

Econsave yes, only supermarkets that having departmental stores you must be very careful.
rm500 of balance you can choose groceries, buy 2KG Milo rm30-31 and sell it back to local coffee shops. If they don't shop in Tesco, Giant, AeonBig, the price they are getting is rm34. So you have some market there.
My spending on groceries every month only rm200 and petrol rm300 but yet I still able to hit rm1000 sharp. So basically rm500's groceries are for "selling".

If you want a credit card purely for petrol rebate and don't want the hassle to always keep track of the transaction, you can go for citibank cash back, but mind you it is only 5%

brows.gif No free lunch in this world lo, you want more cash rebate... you got to "work" for it, plan your spenditure pattern and keep track of it.

Take note supersound's comment. Can ignore the start of his sentence, but the rest correct, only spend at the pump is considered petrol. If you go in and swipe at counter its not petrol category, different MCC.
*
Out of curiosity, does that mean HL Essential card will get rebate if I swipe for petrol inside (since different MCC with the terminal)brows.gif? But this will be last resort since it offers 1% rebate only.

HL Essential 1% apply to all transaction. So swipe anyplace you like. But 10% vs 1% is a lot bro.

Actually, RM500 (RM50 x 10) is the minimum threshold to qualify for 10 CB, no need to spend more than necessary to max the RM100 cash back cap every month.

You are right about all transactions except petrol. 0% rebate for petrol, at least you use it at the terminal of course. You might want to consider it when all your CCs have maxed out, eg: UOB1, Wise, M2C, Ikwan, Aeon Watami etc, but that will hardly the case.

*Retail Transactions (both local and international) EXCLUDE Cash Advances,
Cash-on-Call, Call-for-Cash, Extended Payment Plan, Flexi Payment Plan, Balance
Transfers, Petrol transactions, Finance Charges, Late Charges and Annual Fee
Payment with the exception of WISE, Fortune and Hong Leong Infinite cards
where petrol transactions will be awarded.

According to this, you will be getting rm0 regardless swipe anywhere in a petrol station whistling.gif

HLB's card only the STUPID card are worth to think of, if you can spend rm1000 on playing with their stupid game of denying cash back. If you are looking for 1% "unlimited", OCBC would be the better option.

I guess that is true, but further calculation proves otherwise. Assume one spends RM500 per month, rebate RM50 per month, that is RM600 per year, minus AF RM160 (assume gold) and GST RM50, the effective cash back is only 6.5% compared to 8.25% (spent RM1000 per month). But if you cancel it before the AF kicked in or have your AF waived then that is different story already.

Trust me on this, they will cheat you if they can.
I have to spend 6 months to know their game in order not to make my self stupid. That's why my groceries, petrol and Maxis payment always done before 22nd each month(rule number 1).
*
Come to think of it, why bother taking the risk to swipe inside? Not worth it at all.
Actually I always max out wise rebate by the 1st week of the month. Pay utilities, mobile and petrol. Habis quota whistling.gif
Playing the posting/transaction date game is not a concern to me cool2.gif
