i think the missing link is a compatible driver for the touchpad.
one of the keys to successful upgrade is hardware compatibility. for those who have successfully upgraded without issues, most likely there were compatible drivers that can be obtained either via windows updates or manufacturers' support sites, even if there were hiccups initially.

yeah i will suggest you to wait for a bit. meanwhile, look out for user guides about your device with search engines. there might be good news.

edit: so far for laptops, i have asus g55, dell xps 15 9530, and aw18 working fine.

windows update automatically installed ELAN (Toshiba Pointing device ) for me . Lol Not sure it is compatible or not

I think hardware compatibility issue is a small issue . Hopefully we don't face any bugs and problems with the win10 . I still remembered before I doing reset , the START MENU and notification center didn't working . doh.gif

Wow , all gaming laptop and high end laptop ma , no wonder it can run win 10 without any glitches.haha

the upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 10 is forever one right?

promotion for free upgrade from 8.1 to windows 10 is 1 year.

correct me if im wrong. cuz alot poeple say once u upgrade, ur windows 10 license only last for 1 year.
*
You're correct. The offer period is 1 year. Once you have upgraded to w10, it's yours. I'm not sure how others intepreted it as 1-year license validity.

Yeah my best guess is that the current driver was partially compatible. I believe asus will release one later.

Actually most of the 'bugs' that happened were due to new drivers or updates haven't been applied imo. I don't find anything weird yet after it's fully patched.

Well no it's not about high end or not. we have a user upgraded his 7-year-old laptop without glitches too haha

From what I understand is the free upgrade offer only lasts for 1 year, starting from the date Windows 10 is released to the public, which is 29/7/2015. Therefore you can only get the free upgrade offer until 29/7/2016.

And after you upgraded your computer to Windows 10, it will be valid for lifetime, as long as your computer still working. Pretty much like how previous windows versions work, you get it activated, and it lasts until your computer 'kong'.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
