Every other card from GTX 1050 onwards has DP.

This is what I'm trying to tell people.

Not being able to push the high-end GPU to optimal frame rate doesn't mean it's not good for gaming.

It's subjected to the game engine and the GPU used, in many cases you won't even feel the difference unless you actually benched and compare.

Ideally you should get something that pushes the GPU but in many games like say GTAV, the difference isn't that apparent.

Only thing with X is XFR where it's like a automatic turbo boost to higher frequency when the CPU detects ample of temperature + voltage that can support higher frequency range.

Pls correct me if I am wrong smile.gif
Wrong. All models have XFR.

Just that X models the XFR is at 100Mhz, the non-X is at 50Mhz.

"AMD's upcoming Ryzen processors are "unlocked," in that they feature unlocked base-clock multipliers that let you easily overclock them; yet a few of its variants feature a brand extension "X." As our older article details, the "X" refers to availability of the XFR (extended frequency range) feature. Think of it as a second stage boost that rewards good CPU cooling with higher CPU clocks set automatically. The Ryzen R7-1800X, R7-1700X, R5-1600X, R5-1400X, and R3-1200X feature this. "

Just because TPU published it doesn't mean it's correct.

Many sites rush to publish but don't bother to update.

Ah, I see. So it's just 50Mhz extra for the auto-overclock. Is there any other distinction between the regular and the X model to justify the increase in price? Thanks smile.gif

X model is typically higher clocked out of the box.

That's basically it.

I have 5 Ryzens with me.

1800X, 1700X, 1700, 1600X and 1500X.

Guess which one is my favorite? tongue.gif

I see, I see. That doesn't seem like a very good move from AMD since it basically means that the 1700 can perform as fast as the 1800X if manually overclocked right?

The 1600X and 1500X do look very tempting from a regular consumer point of view. Or would the middle 1600 non-X a better buy? Thanks for sharing the information with us, I'll be looking into your reviews for more insight. thumbup.gif

Supposed to publish my 1500X / 1600X review on Tuesday but meh, taking my sweet time.

Yes if overclocking is your cuppa tea then non-X model it is.

Can check up tis ryzen oc databse which from overclock.net

All just silicon lottery if willing lower vcore to get better oc result.
From what latest review, seems 1500 is the best value ryzen,.
Malaysia doesn't have 1500. In fact I don't know whether there's 1500.

Currently it is as follows

Ryzen 5 1400: 4C/8T, 3.2/3.4 GHz – RM 819
Ryzen 5 1500X: 4C/8T, 3.5/3.7GHz – RM 899
Ryzen 5 1600: 6C/12T, 3.2/3.6GHz – RM 1,039
Ryzen 5 1600X: 6C/12T, 3.6/4.0 GHz – RM 1,199

Given the above arrangement, I do feel that the 1600 has better value than the 1500X. Clock speeds aren't too much apart but you get additional cores.

Do CPU intensive work? If yes, 1600X.

No? 1500X. Save you a bit, can use for gaming also. Plenty fast, actually still fast for work purpose, almost 7700K.

Yeah, some titles the gaming experience is fine but the framerate is not up to expectation.

weird
so what u means is
x series is for over clock and it apply on all core?
X or non X also can overclock.

As for the XFR and such, take for example 1800X

Base clock is 3.6Ghz
Boost clock is 4Ghz.

Most time you will see it run at 3.7Ghz, the 4.1Ghz speed is only apply to single core.

It's exactly like Intel Turbo Boost.

GTX 1070 won't shine regardless which Ryzen processor you choose, even if you overclock.

Ryzen processors just aren't good enough to push higher range GPUs.

And the demo set is using ryzen, can it be utilize well under ryzen?
Coz if around gtx1080 performance, should consider as high range gpu oledi.
biggrin.gif

Notice how AMD compares the Ryzen to i7-6800K

It makes sense for similar clock speed but from watching all their slides, they don't compare it to stuff like i7-7700K.

The 7700K is a beast for pairing with high-end GPU.

But commonly ppl get high end gpu as gtx1080 and above for 4k gaming (especially 1080ti), and seems like fps between ryzen and 7700k is not a big gap @@.
This is correct, 4K gaming the gap narrows. As long as you don't mind knowing that your graphics card is under-performing then it's fine.

Worse case scenartio your GTX 1080 Ti performs like GTX 1080. tongue.gif

On Ryzen setup, some games I see my GTX 1080 AMP Extreme from Zotac performs like my GTX 1070 FE!

Actually la, it's SOME games only.

user posted image

The problem is everyone thinks it's all games. biggrin.gif And affecting all cards.

Even for GTX 1080 as you can see from my benchmarks above, only some game affected.

I think the dumb thing would be if one set up a computer with Ryzen 7 1800X for gaming.

If just gaming, go for r5 or i5 i7 even i3 or pentium ? @@ kinda useless use an RM2k++ cpu just for gaming except got lot of money and dun mind burn them XD
*
No la, Pentium only for CS:GO. tongue.gif

But seriously, Ryzen 5 1500X is great for gaming. Retails at only RM 899.

Pair it with RX 480 / GTX 1060 and you're good to go, GTX 1070 also can. I'm waiting for RX 580 to arrive at my lab.

RM 2,599 for gaming CPU alone is just not worth it.

That price (RM 2,599) can buy you Ryzen 5 1500X and RX 470 and games perfectly (RM 899 + RM 999) and you still have RM 600 to spare for other stuff.

About RM 100 difference, might as well get the one with more clock speed.

This is unlike the Ryzen 7 wher 1700 ix RM 1,599 while the 1800X is RM 2,599.
