If they migrate to the new decoder, they can letterbox all the widescreen channels (instead of widescreen customers having to letterbox 4by3 channels).astro byond V12

And imagine the 'Why is that my Astro isn't fullscreen', 'why my astro has black bars' et. al. complaints Astro will receive. 4:3 for SD while widescreen for HD is a good compromise for everyone. |

Astro is currently migrating its platform into Astro B.yond. Soon, all Astro customers must change their decoder to a new B.yond decoder. |

Do they get those calls at the moment for Astro Supersport SD channels which currently are 16:9 letterboxed? |

For that particular channel, not exactly very many though. I imagine that would be not the case though if they do so with channels that does not have HD equivalents like TV3.From my own sources, if being given the choice to choose, majority of the Astro subscribers did not want to switch their decoder from the grey-type decoders like Philips/Nokia to HD ones from Pace or Samsung. |

QUOTE Astro IPTV has HD service bundled into the Broadband proposition, and therefore are not subject to the price adjustment for the IPTV service in specific. However should the Astro IPTV customer take up an Astro package that has been subjected to the price revision they will be subject to the price revision, such packages are Value Pack 1-3, SuperPack 1, 2 & 4. astro iptv pun kena gak... siapa kata hari tu IPTV tak kena naik?? |

I support this. why must we endure the pain of watching 4:3 on our widescreen tv and not they that who still own the old school box tv |

I imagine that would be not the case though if they do so with channels that does not have HD equivalents like TV3. Hmm, yeah I agree, there will always be a section of customers who are resistant to change. I guess what they could do for 4:3 TV users is upgrade the 4:3 channels to 16:9, but then set these channels to be cropped by the new decoders if connected to a 4:3 TV set (or give the option to letterbox alternatively). This would be similar to LB expand which some widescreen users use now to crop off the top and bottom of a 4:3 channel. From my own sources, if being given the choice to choose, majority of the Astro subscribers did not want to switch their decoder from the grey-type decoders like Philips/Nokia to HD ones from Pace or Samsung. Actually, this would end up being no different for 4:3 users on some channels. E.g. on BBC world news, the original feed is 16:9 which is then cropped to 4:3 by Astro. So they might as well deliver the widescreen feed to all, and allow users to crop it themselves if they choose so in their settings. Of course some of the channels don't have a widescreen feed, so widescreen users will be stuck with a 4:3 feed for these anyway, but it would be good to give people the option of both. What do you think? |

QUOTE(Qash-M @ Nov 21 2014, 11:47 PM) If your package is Rm100 and up, it's free (I already changed mine). Might as well double check with Astro CS if your's eligible for it. just dropped by astro centre at IPC mutiara damansara.... they advice me against changing to the new wifi built in decoder as the older one was more solid.. as in less problem feedback from customer... also the black new remote only comes with new subscription... it cannot be bought officially through them..... if you want to buy a new remote, they will give you the white one.. |

Not only these but sometimes they also blurred something too..(look near the programme logo) Also looks like the catchup vod menu has been reorganized. On demand store become astro store. Catchup menu is categorized by channel or genre per language. This post has been edited by sky3742: Nov 29 2014, 10:18 PM |
