I have yellowish teeth. But I brush my teeth twice a day and didn't even skip once. What is the reason then?

Does scaling helps to whiten my teeth?

Since brushing played an important role in preserving our teeth and not many people are brushing pure teeth in correct way, do u thinking using electronic tooth brush will overcome this problem? Or using our conventional tooth brush is better? Is there any side effect if using electronic tooth brush?
My dentist is not suggesting me to us mouth rinse Bcs she told that mouth rinse can cause staining on our tooth.....is it true? What mouth rinse u suggest?
*
Electronic and manual is very subjective, i tried both and i still prefer the manual. I dont think there is any side effect of electronic tooth brush other than its more expensive biggrin.gif

Should I use mouthwash?
Yes, using a mouthwash that contains fluoride can help prevent tooth decay and help get rid of any last bits of bacteria or leftover food that you might have missed with your toothbrush.

However, don't use mouthwash straight after brushing your teeth. Choose a separate time, such as after lunch. And don't eat or drink for 30 minutes after using a fluoride mouthwash.

Many mouthwashes contain alcohol, so they're not suitable for children, as they could swallow them accidentally. If you use a mouthwash with alcohol, you may get a very dry mouth and dry, cracked lips due to the drying effect of the alcohol. You can avoid this by using an alcohol-free version.

Some mouthwash contain chlorhexidine ( refer the reply by Dr.Barbarian below ) and it will stain the teeth

I quote from internet:
Chlorhexidine staining
'active ingredient of Chlorhexidine gluconate (CG for short). Now this stuff, has got a VERY good track record on treating active gum disease. What this stuff does is actually stick to your teeth, gums, tongue and inhibit bacteria. Its fancy scientific classification is… “ a cationic bisbiguanide.” The CG opens up bacterial cell walls and kills them, less bacteria in the mouth, less inflammation, less gum disease. Thats the basics of it.

However, there are side effects, these include discoluration of fillings and teeth, staining of your tongue, altered taste sensation, metallic taste and increased calculus/tartar formation. This is not a good thing.'

I used Colgate Plax and Listerine before, i prefer Colgate Plax because is cause no burning sensation. Listerine is too strong for me

QUOTE(DrBarbarian @ Sep 16 2014, 08:13 PM)
chlorhexidine  mouth rinse(oradex, bactidol, etc) will cause severe staining especially
if used for more than a week and having braces.... definitely a no no for this case....
*
Oh ya, now i recall back. Once i have a patient with chlorhexidine staining, but he finish the whole small bottle in a week. The chlorhexidine stain can be removed by scaling right.Anyway, thanks for tips doc thumbup.gif

Yellowish due to tobacco and food stain usually can be whiten back by scaling, because the stain is superficial. But if the yellowish staining is due to thinning of teeth layer ( Our teeth have 2 layers, the outer layer is whiter, and inner layer is yellowish. As time goes by, the outer layer become thinner thus the teeth become more and more yellowish ), then it whitening cant be done by scaling.

In short, scaling can be helpful for stain that is superficial. Other than that, bleaching is the other option, but the effect is not permanent.

Some is just congenital and genetic. If you notice, Indian society has a much whiter teeth, one of the reason is the contrast of their skin color to teeth, making it whiter. But if you just look at the teeth itself, it also appear whiter than other races. Thinning of teeth by by daily wear and tear, or acid attack in some individual.

Good to heard that, i have a few colegue also grad from Manipal, Salem and Chennai. You going for twinning or 5 years there? Must be quite excited ya...

From the picture, your wisdom teeth is erupting. You either bear with the pain and let it grow , or you can choose to extract it. And the extraction is going to be a little bit complicated, so the dentist might have to charge you higher.

small problem... dun even need surgery to remove your tooth....(talking about your right wisdom tooth... left on the pix)... presuming this is the offending tooth....

but if you meant the other tooth with is your left wisdom tooth(right side of pix), then it could be a decay there that's deep... not clear from the pix though... dun need surgery for that too.....

oh ya... you need scaling....

Any dentist to recommend in setapak area for braces wearing?
Is there a difference for those who charge higher than the other? Cause i've asked for price quotation. They range from RM5,500 to RM7,500. Is the experience of doctor essential in brace fixing process? What would you suggest me to look into when i look for a place to fix my braces? rolleyes.gif

Sorry, im not familiar with Setapak. I think the one charge more expensive is specialist, and cheaper one is general dentist who have attended courses on braces. Is very hard to tell whether the doctor is good or not just by looking at his/her qualification paper. Even braces has many types, and we dont know which one they following. The best will be feedback from his previous patient
