There is a contrary opinion is rinsing after tooth brushing. Toothpaste has fluoride and other type of material in it. By exposing the tooth too long to toothpaste , we will get a condition call fluorosis of the tooth. My PERSONAL opinion is rinse after brushing, to make our tooth strong, we need to get rid the food that stick to our teeth, this is prevention. Not forgetting flossing and gargle with mouthwash twice a week
huh? prolong exposure to toothpaste causes fluorosis?? that's something new... then shouldn't we stop using high concentration topical fluoride?

Thanx for opening this thread! great effort here.... have you completed your fido?

1.I believe you meant what we called as 'the black triangular'. It is formed when your bone and gum shrink, and if the process continue down the time, eventually your teeth will be shaking. There are few minor oral surgery that can make the bone and gum regrow, but not everyone is candidate for the surgery, it has to depend on your level of bone. For non-invasive method, i recommend regular scaling to AT LEAST maintain the already shrink-ed gum, rather then let it progressing worsen.

2. Actually our teeth have some amount of transparent, it to make light to pass through and make our teeth nice. It is usually at the edge of our teeth, it is normal. What abnormal is when you notice your teeth has become more and more transparent. It usually due to acidic food, such as orange juice or maybe you have the habit of night grinding ( Bruxism ), which make the teeth thinner.

I think the statement i have put it in a wrong way. It should be if didnt rinse the toothpaste after brushing, there will be increase risk of us swallowing the toothpaste, and it will cause fluorosis of bone. For a teeth to become fluorosis, high amount of floride must be consume at the TEETH FORMATION STAGE, which is before the teeth erupt. The amount of fluoride in typical toothpaste will be 1000ppm to 1500ppm. Even our tap water has fluoride in it , it is below 0.1ppm. Many cases of tooth fluorosis is due to ingestion of these fluoridated water, it has been a debate whether we should put fluoride in our water system or not, but i think the pros wight more than cons
I have completed my fydo, are you a dental officer too??  hmm.gif

Hi Doc, you must be a very senior oral surgeon. You are the Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon? Because i notice some GP they put oral gurgeon too, i dont think they refering to Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon. And why sir dont need to serve last time? Mind take us down the memory lane?  brows.gif
yes.... I'm way more senior than you... my time is b4 they implemented the compulsory 3 years service for dental graduates.... heard that it's been reduced to 2 years now...

I think you meant gp calling themselves dental surgeons... not oral surgeons.... those with BDS(Bachelor in Dental Surgery) like to be referred as dental surgeons to differentiate themselves from those graduated with Bachelor in Science(Dental)..... in reality, abang adik...

chlorhexidine mouth rinse(oradex, bactidol, etc) will cause severe staining especially
if used for more than a week and having braces.... definitely a no no for this case....

small problem... dun even need surgery to remove your tooth....(talking about your right wisdom tooth... left on the pix)... presuming this is the offending tooth....

but if you meant the other tooth with is your left wisdom tooth(right side of pix), then it could be a decay there that's deep... not clear from the pix though... dun need surgery for that too.....

oh ya... you need scaling....

Ya I'm experiencing now so doc wat other brands would u recommend for mouth rinse?

Thanks
*
proper brushing technique .... mouth rinse dun really help..... but if u insist, any brand will do as long as it suits your taste .... just shy away from those that cause staining....

zirconia crown prices varies due to clinic's operating cost and targeted clientele..... end product is the SAME..... generally cost above 1k though.....

i chipped my front tooth a few years back..then i went to a dentist who sort of polished off the dead part of the tooth, like the blood vessel in a small part of the tooth had turned black...initiallly the gap it left wasnt obvious, but lately it has been getting more obvious till i can wedge my fingernail between my two front teeth.what is recommended i do about this?
would those remineralizing toothpastes, on the net, be of use?
*
hi... I don't quite get your situation.... but I recon the gap can be patch up with a direct filling... crowning may be the other option...... but you gotta find out why is the gap getting bigger first.... could be due to gum problem or the fact that that particular tooth is 'dead' and require root canal treatment... many possibilities unless you can give a better picture of what's going on.

Like to have your professional view on my son's problem.

My son is 12 yrs old. He has left canine (I don't know whether I got the name right here, the pointed dracula's tooth) in front of the normal row of teeth. Looks weird when he smiles.

What can he do?

Pull out the tooth?

Will that cause other teeth to start to get misaligned?

Will the same 2nd tooth grow back later if it not part of the permanent tooth?

Many thanks.
*
pix will be good.... I assume that it is the permanent canine that has erupted in front of the rest of the teeth(labially).... options are=> leave it as it is, remove it, go for braces to reposition it....

QUOTE(Xiny @ Dec 12 2014, 04:01 PM)
I have gum infection with pus bcos of my tooth filling done by last visit to a dentist, went for root canalling, finished the antibiotic course, medicine to apply n the gum infection wt pus is still there.

So dentist suggested me for laser treatment for the root n the gum, did for few times in few months but still not much big improvement.

Any good remedies for this or anyone experienced b4 but cured by an experience dentist??? Dr Barbarian, please give me some professional advise where I can get a skilful n reasonable price dentist?

Im so worry about this, hope that anyone can give advise about this. IT HAS BEEN BOTHER ME FOR MORE THAN 3 MONTHS.  Pleeeeeeeeeeeasee HELP.

Thanks for the help n kind hearted. sad.gif

my guess is that the root canal treatment has failed.... your option would be remove that tooth.... redo the root canal treatment.... or minor surgery to cut off the tip of the root/roots....

but there may be other reasons for the pus to present... example is gum problem, cracked tooth, cyst, impacted tooth...... but the possibility of a failed root treatment is much higher though..... go consult another dentist .....

Thanks for the reply, Dr Barbarian.  I did thought of that b4 but I dunno which dentist is good(worried worried worried) Any to recommend???  Should I go look for Endodontics dentist??

Normally for cases like that it takes how long to recover??
Once again, Dr Barbarian tQ so much  for the reply.
*
just go to any other dentist for consultation to confirm your problem.... if it's failed root treatment as I predicted then see that doc can redo or not.... if not then go to endodontist.... but gonna be very pricey especially for redo cases.....

once treatment is done properly, pus will subside within couple of days.... (assuming it's root treatment problem)....

if it's due to cracked tooth... then say bye bye to your tooth.....

The xray of the one that not sealed was taken right after the laser treatment. This is the one that got problem n pus.
*
pls dun be fooled with 'laser' treatment... it's just to drain the pus.... nuthin more....

so the pus is on your right jaw? left on the x ray? I thought it's the other side.... the pre molar.....

yes, that broken tooth can be restore with a post crown.... that molar next to the broken tooth, root sealing looks shabby..... and the other obvious thing you can see on the xray would be your wisdom tooth.... you will need minor surgery to remove it.....
