Not sure, 20 units were supposed to go to Afghan Air Force, but looks like USAF are having fun with a few these as well. They already has the facilities to build more Super Tucanos, so why not.

Note: The Tucano in the pic looks way too advanced to be given to Afghans. Probably USAF versions for their own low-level counter-insurgency ops?

Also looks like US Navy also wants to get some of that Super Tucano action themselves laugh.gif

Hahaha for big contractors like them, project like this look like small change only, not worth their time. Only smaller aircraft manufacturers that have designs for small combat aircraft (beechcraft, Gulfstream) are protesting why US gov buy foreign design for the LSA (light support aircraft) program rather than local designs. The Super Tucanos are to be built by a US subsidiary of Embraer Aircraft called Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) Aerospace.

Company site: SNCorp.com

Another clearer picture of the US Navy test Super Tucano, which can be identified by the 'rearing stallion' nose art. Note the 'Bright Star II' optical sensor suite turret and the mass of antennae for various electronic equipment (not found on other country's Super Tucanos).

Forgive me peeps, I gave a wrong description on the pic above. This plane isn't a A-29 Super Tucano, it's actually a Beechcraft AT-6B Aircraft (below)..... Sorry, should've noticed a Super Tucano wouldn't have an oil cooler inlet under the engine cowling and just four propeller blades....sweat.gif

DCNS Confirms Sale of 10 Gowind Corvettes, Expects More
(Source: Defense-Aerospace.com; published Oct 31, 2014)
By Giovanni de Briganti

..........
Malaysian local production

DCNS’ Malaysian contract involves the sale of the Gowind 2500 design and related technology to a local shipyard, Boustead Naval Shipyards (BNS), which is the prime contractor and will build all six ships at its Lumut shipyard under the Malaysian navy’s Second Generation Patrol Vessel (SGPV) program. BNS was awarded the $2.8 billion contract in 2011, but it only went into effect on July 14, 2014 after completion of a major upgrade of the Lumut shipyard.

DCNS’ involvement began in 2012, when it signed a Letter Of Agreement with BSN, and in addition to the design and related technology, it will also supply the ships’ combat management systems and technical assistance in adapting the basic design to Malaysian requirements, which for example call for a slightly longer ship (+ 8 meters), powered by four 16-cylinder MTU marine diesels. Under the contract, DCNS retains IP rights to the basic Gowind design, whereas BNS will own the rights to the Malaysian variant.

The Malaysian contract is worth “several hundreds of million euros” to DCNS, according to company officials; construction of the lead ship is to start in March and its delivery is tentatively planned for 2019, substantially later than initially planned by Malaysia. The French company also plans to compete for a possible follow-on third-generation program if that project goes through.
.....
Separately, MBDA is negotiating a contract to equip the ships with MICA Vertical Launch air-defense missiles and MM-40 Exocet anti-ship missiles, together worth an additional 400 million euros, while DCNS is negotiating a 100-200 million euro contract for torpedoes.

my view
- cost missile and torpedo already Euro 500 million++ ....
- Egypt Gowind built by DCNS france will launch at 2017 2 year early, event order only june this year。

Minister: Indonesian military budget increases to 1.5 percent

06 November 2014 15:32 WIB

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Joko Widodo's government will step up military spending to 1.5 percent of the state budget, stated Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu.

"President Jokowi will consistently modernize the defense weapon systems by increasing the military budget to 1.5 percent as part of his program," Ryamizard remarked during an international seminar titled, "Exploring Defense Offset in Indonesia: Expectation, Partnership and Strategy of Engagement" here on Thursday (6/11).

The previous government had allocated Rp83 trillion, or 0.8 percent of the state budget, for the Indonesian military budget. The minister noted that the total current defense budget is not enough to increase the capabilities of the Indonesian defense forces.

Ryamizard pointed out that weapon system development is part of the mandate of the Indonesian regulation. However, the economic crisis in 1998 had hindered the security and defense system's development, the minister stated.

"During the 2010-2014 period, the defense budget was increased up to 400 percent. The increase was triggered by economic development," Ryamizard noted.

The Jokowi government is also laying emphasis on developing defense systems by national companies. Thus, all potential areas can be developed to support the national defense and economy.

"Modernization and development of the defense industry should also be accelerated to utilize the local content. We need to have an independent defense system. Thus, we should not depend on foreign defense equipment suppliers," Ryamizard added.

Big Surprise in store at upcoming Zhuhai Air show 2014, Chinese weapon manufacturer set to unveil massive CX-1 hypersonic Anti-Ship missile

user posted image
Whoa nelly! Look at the size of that thing!! blink.gif
That missile must be 10-12 meters in length & probably reach 1 meter in across. That makes it larger than Russian BrahMos, Onyx & Granit missiles!
More problems for US carrier groups, I guess.

I wonder what will be the possible launch platform?

Probably also too big for fighter-bomber aircraft, so in PLAAF probably only H-6K can carry the the missile. Then the missile can be the Chinese version of the famed Russian AS-4 Kitchen, to be the source of fear for US carriers. Up to now, the most powerful Anti-ship missile in PLA arsenal is the already huge YJ-12, which is a near-copy of a Russian P-270 Moskit missile. It already has US defense thinkers recalculating the odds of survival for any carrier battle group.

The appearance of the Hypersonic CX-1 would probably throw the calculations seriously way off balance yet again in the near future.

I think US already put it into consideration, the new CX-1 just another supersonic anti-ship missle to add to thier headache

over the years, US think tank already highlighted the vulnerabilities of large carrier group especially under missile saturation attack give that what russia and china will most likely do. The supersonic speed just add more problem but the idea of saturation attack is still there

Their stop-gap solution is to built more cost effective AEGIS destroyer to provide more area defense and also more ship to accompany the carrier group. Other suggestion is to built a primary anti air and anti missile destroyer like the Type 45. But Naval old school thinking is that a multi mission destroyer is more effective in cost than a dedicated system
