Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a fine action movie. while character development is somewhat lacking, action is not. ben affleck and henry cavill did reasonably good jobs. of course, when there is batman, there is alfred; when there is superman, there is lois lane. as a bonus, u get to see kevin costner, diane lane, lawrence fishburne and holly hunter - all getting old. tongue.gif

this movie is more superman than batman, since it is directed by zack synder and not chris nolan.

the movie comes in theatrical and extended versions; extended version is 3 hours long, in dd atmos/truehd7.1.

i rate it 3.5/5. come nov 2017, we will get the sequel - likely a justice league movie. biggrin.gif

As their surrounding community has taken a turn for the worse, the crew at Calvin's Barbershop come together to bring some much needed change to their neighborhood. sad.gif

IMDB - 5.8/10 smile.gif

Great black comedy movie. It's a dangerous neighborhood and everyone in the Barbershop trying to make a change about their community such as social issues and even family issues. Lots of banter and it's a dialogue movie. Good movie on a Sunday afternoon or Friday after midnight. Movie tips - Nicky Minaj is in da house! devil.gif

Captain America: Civil War is good, 3.5/5.

Story is weak but action is good. Comes in 1080p DTSHDMA 7.1.

The best thing about this movie is it brings on a few more Avengers - Spiderman, Antman, Black Panther, Vision.

It is obvious that the next movie will be a full blown AVENGERS movie.

There is already news that Marvel's AVENGERS 3: Infinity War will come in 2 parts - in 2018 and 2019. biggrin.gif

That will actually psuh DC to make a grand Justice League movie after Batman vs Superman, nice!

Watched - The Conjuring 2

user posted image

My Rating : 6.5/10

Been wanting to watch this movie in the cinema itself, but fearing pointless censorship (you know how it is when it comes to horror movies here, particularly based on religion), I decided to wait until a Blu-ray release (yes I know, it's technically not out yet).

To keep it short and sweet, The Conjuring 2 isn't as good as the first Conjuring. I find that 2 of the 4 spirits presented in this movie were too comical and silly, pausing suspense and disbelief which to me breaks the immersion of the movie. That said, I still had a number of decent jump scares thanks to the well mixed soundtrack of the movie. Not going to go into too much plot details here as summary is available all over the net, but all I will say is that the whole Enfield thing was obviously too short of a plot for this movie alone. Trying to tie up the Amityville and Enfield poltergeist activities as something related to Lorraine may be a good idea on paper, but somehow it just didn't feel very impactful to me at the end.

Cinematography wise, this isn't James best work. There are a few new things he tried with this movie, particularly with lesser close-up shots that was in some cases over-used in many of his previous horror movies. But I think that there were areas that certainly would benefit from better camera placements, to keep the surreal suspense intact. Otherwise, it's the usual James Wan flair. A camera pan and wham! A jump scare! It's predictable but I found the use of camera pans effective.

Audio wise, I watched The Conjuring 2 in Dolby Atmos. Unfortunately, the Atmos effects sounded 'tacked-on' and they were barely used to give a bigger sense of horror immersion. I can count in one hand the amount of scenes that there were height-effects and even those were pointless "running footsteps ontop of you" or "objects flying above you" sort of thing. Atmos aside though, the bed-layer effects were fantastic stuff.
There's a good amount of LFE in this movie and boy do they sound GREAT! The mid-bass thumps and thuds are which comprises of chest thumps were all well integrated with the jump scares. Vocals were mixed just nice, never out of focus and was very loud when it needed to be. To me, audio is extremely important in horror movies and while the height effects were a let down, everything else was sublime in this movie!

I came off the movie at the end feeling a little... down. There was no "wtf.. I just wet my pants" feeling at the end. The ending to me felt abrupt and the build up to it was a little too comical as well.

The Conjuring 2 is a fairly decent movie, well worth the watch just for the sound production alone IMO. But if anyone is expecting this to be better than the first movie, then well.. you'd be a little disappointed.

FF has a unique following. there are dozens of FF games, movies and tv series, all unrelated.

i have watched some, like some more than others.

FFXV animation is excellent, no doubt.

but as a movie... seen too many with same theme.

FFXV is made by the same people who made FFVII - advent children.

FFVII advent children is the among the best u can find, i like this one most. biggrin.gif

as a sidenote, FF The Spirits Within 2001 is ok, but was a flop.

incl kingsglaive, 7 FF movies have been made to date.

When I watch movies, particularly Animation movies & knowing precisely how much work goes into making one.. I always look at it first from the quality of graphics put into it, then the storyline.. So I'm a sucker for good graphics.. biggrin.gif.. Naturally as you've pointed out, the plot wasn't exactly mind blowing...

X-Men Apocalypse is... good, 4/5. lots of action-cgi-special effects.

BDMV dtshdma 7.1 version comes out superb on 4k TV.

The story ties up well with previous movies.

Only thing i did not like too much was the "villain" was not badass enough. laugh.gif And u know, Ra... so many versions of him/her/it.

But i have to say u need to be an X-Men fan, watched all previous moivies, esp the last 2, to appreciate the full story.

Apparently, Apocalypse is the 3rd and last in the "trilogy" (with First Class and Days of Future Past) - of introducing a younger set of actors/actresses.

Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) says she will NOT act anymore in future X-men movies. In comes Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark in GOT) as Jean Grey. Young Storm, Cyclops, NightCrawler too.

A courteous 1 min was given to Wolverine to keep the character alive in the franchise. biggrin.gif

From the last few secs of the movie, my bet is the next Bryan Singer X-Men movie will be a parallel timeline story to Days of Future Past with Sentinels, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine and Storm in lead action.

2 "minor" but watchable movies if you have no blockbusters to watch.

The Shallows is a "jaws" type movie. almost a single actress movie, the little twists and turns keep up the horror and thrill. 3/5.

Brothers Grimsby is an action comedy. a little surprising action man Mark Strong is in it. A bit vulgar but is overall good fun, good humor. 3/5.
