thanks for your suggestion. I've not so pleasant experience with Acer hence sad.gif

MSI ehh.. that lenovo y50 seems gooding,no?
*
Thivaakar, i think the Y50 is slimmer compared to the GP60. But not sure about it's upgrade bays. Also did a quick google and saw some comments about the poor viewing angle. Mebbe need more checks. hmm.gif

msi vs lenovo of coz lenovo la. msi alot gimmick inside. n everything shouldered on motherboard, very hard to repair
*
Bro, of course everything needs to be soldered on a motherboard lah. But if you're referring to the CPU then yalorr.. some hobbyist complained about it before as they wanted to upgrade the chip but not really that easy.

1. Preferred Brand : Anything except ASuS
2. Budget : 2.5k - 3k ( if need more budget,would consider to add)
3. Usage :  programming,autocad,light photo and movie editing,VMware
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: prefer 15" with full hd
5. Weight: doesn't matter

Hi guys,I would need a laptop for the above usage and would add a SSD to the laptop when bought it. It more probably would be intel 530 120gb SSD, hope you guys could recommend me some laptops smile.gif

It seemed to be maxwell will reach our shore very soon..it is the right time to buy a laptop now or waiting the maxwell?
*
Yo Necro-man!

Check out the MSI GP60 2PE
Just under your budget at RM2,999 for Intel i7 and RM2,699 for the i5. Think the faster CPU would be better for the programs you're using. Anyways, both are using the Nvidia GTX 840M GPU which is Maxwell already.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForc...M.105681.0.html

The MSI GP60 comes with 1 mSATA connector so you can add on SSD without throwing away the HDD.

Question, how come you're not considering a notebook or desktop with Quadro card since you're using Autocad?

Hi,
looking for a laptop to college- doing pre-u then mass com
i like playing sims so a laptop that can handle it wld be good ^,^

brand- acer,dell, asus?
prefer lightweight (>3.5kg)
matte screen & backlight keyboard
4gb ram
i5-i7
good cooling system
>16 inch screen
budget >3k
design- with aluminium finish would be nice :3
i know having all these specs in one laptop is probably impossible but i hope you can recommend something thats somewhat similar smile.gif notworthy.gif
*
Hey Emily, see if you can stretch your budget a little.

for RM3,799.. MSI GE60 2PC. Brushed aluminium finish with backlit keyboards that have customisable keys and colour.
You pay more for better features and 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

for under your budget, RM2,999 and RM2,699 for GP60 2PE (i7) and (i5) respectively.

All the models above use a 15'6in matte anti-glare screen. thumbup.gif

bro wat I mean is not slot type. still prefer the slot type than on board. on board type like gtx 765m in aw14 is a headache. very very hard to upgrade.

3. Gaming, movie
4. Any
msi ge60 2pl, dell inspiron 14 7000, lenovo y50
which one is the best value of money?
*
Aka, the lenovo y50 is actually a newer notebook to the market. good thing is they finally dropped the SLI idea and put in a 860M GPU. There's a free DOS version for RM3,599 but for that price you should go with either the MSI or Dell as they are cheaper and comes with Windows already installed. Unless of course you have a space OS license lying around.

Would recommend you also check out the MSI GE60 2PC though. Same specs as the GE60 2PL but comes with more features at RM3,799.

1. Preferred Brand: Mostly to Dell but I'm open to any other reliable brand as well
2. Budget: 3k more or less, would stretch if its worth it
3. Usage: Preferable if Dota 2 on high setting, but could live with medium as well (Been using a 5 years old lappy to play)
Movies, some photo editing, internet surfing
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14" to 17" its alright

Some add on, it must have a dual HDD slot(once you goes SSD, there's no moving back... tongue.gif )either at the cost of an optical drive or come default. I don't mind DIY to remove the optical drive.

So far this inspiron 17 7000 caught my attention, need more opinion thanks!

16SEPT add-on: After some brief survey, MSI GE60, Inspiron 17(7737) and Inspiron 14(7447) seems to fit my budget.
I'm still open to any other reliable brand (good after sales service)
Would be great if it's enclosed with aluminium casing!
