Hi, I'm looking for a reliable laptop for work.

1. Preferred Brand: Any
2. Budget : Less than RM 3k
3. Usage: work, virtual machine
4. Preferred laptop screen size : Any
5. Extra:
a)Need a reliable laptop that can last for years. This is very important.
b)1920*1080 FHD resolution
c)GT 840M or equivalence
d)HDD doesn't matter. Going to replace it with 512GB SSD (on top of the budget above)
e)Design, keyboard, trackpad, screen quality, battery doesn't matter. Will plug the laptop with monitor, keyboard & mouse most of the time.

Thank you.

Why dont just buy a pc? Its much worth than a laptop and last longer of course.

Lenovo Z40-75 80DW002HMJ Laptop/ Notebook

is this laptop good for my requirements? AMD > intel ?

budget : less than 2.5k MYR
usage : -rendering stuff (vegas, AE)
            -photoshop
            -NX cadcam modelling
            -Dota 2!!

need 16:9 too
*
Lenovo z40-75 use AMD APU processor rite? Better to stick with intel processor + nvidia Gt830m or Gt840m.

I would suggest Lenovo z50-70 with i5-4210u, gt840m, 4gb ram, 1tb sshd, 15.6, full hd screen.

Unfortunately only Lenovo z40-70 and Lenovo Flex 2 14 got full hd screen 14" screen below Rm2000. Why bother full hd screen?

Yeah. Full hd is better, but u got less choice if budget below Rm2000. Also, try to take a look on Dell Vostro 5470/5480. Slim and lightest 14" laptop from Dell

No experience with Planetside 2, but Guild Wars 2 (the vanilla 1 anyway) is a processor bounded game. Thus investing in an i7 would be recommended vs a high end graphics card.

On another note. time for V25 perhaps?

Most sifu here had already retired. Maybe you should start a new one? hmm.gif

2. Budget - Around the RM3k below
3. Usage - Mostly gaming, watching videos, surfing the web, video processing
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14"

Prefer SSD

AFAIK, no laptop below Rm3000 comes with ssd and dedicated graphic card. Best option is to buy 2.5k laptop + after-market ssd

Is it possible to buy  dell 5480  i7  then swap for ssd?
*
Should be possible. But Dell 5480 is not a good choice if you are gaming a lot. Slim laptop tends to be hotter than normal laptop. Also, someone just mention that wifi reception is weak, same like the previous model.

Which model so u recommend within budget max of 3k
*
Dell Inspiron 14 7447, i5-4210H, 4gb ram, GTX 850m, 14" hd screen, win8.1, priced at Rm 2599 (last month). Dunno if the price increased.
Budget line SSD 256gb is around Rm380-460

edited: just checked Dell website, they had increased the price, now at Rm2699.

to be honest dun touch vostro... wont last like they promised..

I think it still good for people who want lightweight and portable machine, but just not recommended for gamer.

I only hate the fact that Dell doesnt improve wifi reception and this time they removed msata slot. ( read it somewhere, but still not confirmed yet )

Sifu, will the model X452LD have adequate cooling system for normal use? My friend bought a X453LD, but when I first time saw it, I was like "lol sweat.gif , cant detect any outlet for hot air to come out..."
*
Yeah. It does have one.

I think his model is Asus x453MA, which use low power intel celeron N2940 processor ( bay-trail ) with low TDP, even passive cooling is enough for it.

Btw, i'm not sifu. Just a casual forumer here.

1. Preferred Brand: Lenovo
2. Budget: Below 2.2k
3. Usage: Web browsing, programming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14 inch

Are there any i5 out there without the discrete gpu(gt720m, gt820m, and the likes)?
*
Acer v3-371, i5-5200u, 4gb ram, 500gb sshd, 13.3" full hd display, 1.5kg.
Dell latitude with i3-4005u
As for Lenovo, i think only s410 and thinkpad edge e440 i3 version fit into your budget. Most laptop today are equipped with discrete gpu.

QUOTE(NanaLiew @ Feb 17 2015, 05:51 PM)
hi guys, I have been eyeing this laptop by Acer, the v3 371. It's a 13.3 inch with FHD display, non touch, the latest Haswell i5 processor, hybrid drive and its light and thin (1.5kg) with 7+ hours of battery life and it's under 2k. But I can't find any reviews about it and everyone keeps warning me about how Acer has poor build quality and I should be careful. Anyone has any experience with this laptop or any recommendations of other similar models?

Battery life and weight is a very important factor and budget is below 2.2k if preferable. Used mostly for watching movies and browsing. Touch screen would be a nice addition smile.gif
