Hi sifu. Sila tunjuk ajar.... notworthy.gif

1. Preferred Brand: Any brand will do.
2. Budget: Below 3k.
3. Usage : Uni purposes. Quite alot of gaming as well. Especially Dota 2.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Any size. Weight doesnt matter to me.

I would want a lappy with 8gb ram at least. brows.gif Preferably not an i7 processor because it heats faster and drains more battery? (Correct me if Im wrong on this). Would like one that doesnt heat up fast. Personally hate that.... Makes me abit scared. Weight doesnt matter to me. Bigger screen is better. Heavier is not an issue. flex.gif
Hopefully this rig can last me 4 years. wink.gif

Thanks in advance dear sifu. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Thank you for d reply.

Generally if cheaper laptop n let say we take good care of it, inevitably would not last longer than pricier laptop is it?

Maybe these?
15.6"
Asus
S551LN-CJ247H, i5-4200U + Nvidia 840M + 24GB mSATA + (1366x768;touch)@RM2699[2.4kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8.1, 3-cell

Lenovo
Flex 2-15, i7-4510U + Nvidia 840M + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)+ 8GB SSGD + 500GB HDD@RM2799[2.3kg], 4GB, W8

MSI

*Prices in RRP
*upgrade to 8GB RAM
* The Asus and Lenovo are relatively slim, so they might get hot when on-load
* whether a notebook lasts or not depends on luck and user care

Hello guys, guess it's my time to ask around liao... sweat.gif

So, I'm helping my mum to hunt a laptop. Any brand is okay...

Budget under 1k, usage mainly for emails, surf travel websites... Basically, a beginner's notebook...

I believe a netbook or any ultraportable under 11" would fit under the budget?

What say you, sifu [PF T.J.] ? unsure.gif

Hi, I need recommendation for a notebook to be used next month.

1. Preferred Brand: Dell/Lenovo/Illegear/HP - others also can
2. Budget: around 3k or can go a bit higher if needed
3. Usage: Heavy usage of excel (calculation/read/write/macro), .Net programming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14"/15" inch

Other:
1. This is mainly for work with a lot of excel data read/write, calculation and macro.
2. Good keyboard
3. Screen resolution prefer 1920x1080
4. Ram 8gb or higher
5. 512gb SSD if its really improve my usage

Question:
Does using SSD will make the usage (excel read/write) better?
or its enough to use SSHD or combination of small size storage SSD + HDD?
This will effect of choosing to select which storage

Thank You all

If the main activities are excel and programming, CPU and graphic card have no impact here, focus on SSD and ram will do.
I'll suggest MBA, unless you want buy other laptop and swap SSD into it.

SSD basically makes almost everything faster, unless you don't save your file in SSD ..XD
SSD+HDD might be a better choice, as the ssd part of sshd normally has very small size, only will improve for windows booting

Thanks for your input...
I would love to get MBA but afraid there will be compatibility issues with software that i need to install for my work.
Soo, decided to get a laptop with windows instead.

Does a setup of 128gb ssd + 1tb hdd is enough? I am doing heavy work with excel with lots of files and data.
or going for pure 512gb SSD will give more impact on the performance?
If possible, would like to keep the budget low if the difference is not that much of a difference icon_rolleyes.gif

Any laptop recommendation please....

Yo bro! Welcome back notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
Nowadays there are hardly any more netbooks out there, especially those within RM1k huhu

Still, can consider these:
10.1
Acer
Aspire AOD270, Atom N2800 + Intel GMA 3650@RM1099, 2GB, 320GB, W7S, free Acer pouch, colors: red/black
Aspire AOD270, Atom N2800 + Intel GMA 3650@RM1099, W7HB, free Acer pouch, colors: aquamarine/carnival

Asus
Eee PC 1025CE, Atom N2800 + Intel GMA3650@RM949,2GB, 320GB(5400rpm), colors: blue/pink/purple

Lenovo Flex 10, Celeron N2805 + Intel HD + (1366x768; touch)@RM1199, 2GB (soldered), 500GB, W8, Office Home & Student 2013, sleeve case

*Some are old models icon_rolleyes.gif
The specs are pretty basic for these, so try not to expect too much can alread laugh.gif

14"
Lenovo Ideapad Flex 2-14, i5-4210U + Nvidia 840M +(1920x1080; IPS touch)@RM2499[2kg], 4GB, 500GB, W8.1, 2 yrs; colors: red/white

*upgrade RAM to 8GB
*replace HDD with SSD
*spend remaining budget on a good pair of external speakers/ earphones as notebooks around this price range are not very good in terms of audio icon_rolleyes.gif

If you don't mind a normal HD screen, can consider these as well since they look great laugh.gif
14"
HP
Pavilion 14-V011TX, i5-4210U + Nvidia GT830M@RM1999[BeatsAudio][1.98kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8.1; colors: silver/white/red

Hi ! Need advise !

Really like the ...

Flex 2-15, i7-4510U + Nvidia 840M + (1920x1080 IPS; touch)+ 8GB SSGD + 500GB HDD@RM2799[2.3kg], 4GB, W8

...but cannot tolerate the Glare screen.

My question is :
1. Is there any laptop with same spec ( + light weight, thin ) with 1920x1080 anti-glare screen ?

( Dont need the touch and the flex-like mode )

OR

2. i need to put the anti-glare screen cover on the screen ? same output will natural anti-glare screen ??

TQ

Guys, recommend me a laptop under RM2K for an architectural student:

1. Brands: Any brands would do, though I'm leaning towards Dell.
2. Usage: Architecture software
3. Budget: Under RM2K (can go a bit higher)
4. Preference: Prefer a laptop with a full-sized mSATA port for SSDs, though it is not a requirement. tongue.gif

Hi sifu,
1. Preferred Brand : any brand but preferably lenovo or asus
2. Budget : below RM3k (or up to 3.5k if necessary)
3. Usage : Architecture student(design software like autoCAD),gaming(D2,
FIFA,COD)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 15 or larger

I hope my laptop can last my whole degree life which is like in 3 or 4 years time.. which means I should find no problem operating those designative software in my laptop. (Gaming come last) biggrin.gif biggrin.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Not really sure what's required of an Architecture notebook, but can consider this:
14"
Dell
Inspiron 14 5000, i5-4210U + AMD HD R7 M265@RM1899[2.02kg], 4GB, 500GB, Linux, 4-cell, spill-resistant KB, 2 years Pro support; W8.1SL@RM2099

Thank you for your precious advice, I actually followed all your thread since first page, fantastic job of yours.
Just few questions:

1. Is FHD experience in Flex 14-2 very big difference as compared with those 1366 x 768?
2. Do you have a link to review on HP Envy 14-k119TX, HP Pavilion 14-V011TX and HP Envy 14-K125TX , really difficult to find, is it different model used internationally?
3. Devices below are the one in my mind after read through all your suggestions, which one has the better speaker?

1. Dell Inspiron 14' 7000 (i5, 4 GB RAM)
2. Dell Vostro 14' 5470 (i5, 4GB RAM)
3. Lenovo Flex 14-2 (i5, 8GB RAM)
4. HP Envy 14-k119TX (i5, 4GB RAM)
5. HP Pavilion 14-V011TX (i5, 4GB RAM)
6. HP Envy 14-K125TX (i5, 4GB RAM)
7. Toshiba U40T-A102 (i5, 4GB RAM)

Thank you in advance.
