Hi, I need recommendation for a notebook to be used next month.

1. Preferred Brand: Dell/Lenovo/Illegear/HP - others also can
2. Budget: around 3k or can go a bit higher if needed
3. Usage: Heavy usage of excel (calculation/read/write/macro), .Net programming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14"/15" inch

Other:
1. This is mainly for work with a lot of excel data read/write, calculation and macro.
2. Good keyboard
3. Screen resolution prefer 1920x1080
4. Ram 8gb or higher
5. 512gb SSD if its really improve my usage

Question:
Does using SSD will make the usage (excel read/write) better?
or its enough to use SSHD or combination of small size storage SSD + HDD?
This will effect of choosing to select which storage

Thank You all
*
If the main activities are excel and programming, CPU and graphic card have no impact here, focus on SSD and ram will do.
I'll suggest MBA, unless you want buy other laptop and swap SSD into it.

SSD basically makes almost everything faster, unless you don't save your file in SSD ..XD
SSD+HDD might be a better choice, as the ssd part of sshd normally has very small size, only will improve for windows booting

Thanks for your input...
I would love to get MBA but afraid there will be compatibility issues with software that i need to install for my work.
Soo, decided to get a laptop with windows instead.

Does a setup of 128gb ssd + 1tb hdd is enough? I am doing heavy work with excel with lots of files and data.
or going for pure 512gb SSD will give more impact on the performance?
If possible, would like to keep the budget low if the difference is not that much of a difference  icon_rolleyes.gif

Any laptop recommendation please....

well, unless you install your excel, and save your file in ssd, else there will be difference between hving the file in hdd and ssd.
how 'lot' files you have? 256G ssd cnt handle it?
For laptop wise , can giv better suggestion

Ideapad Flex 2-14, i5-4210U + Nvidia 840M +(1920x1080; IPS touch)@RM2499[2kg], 4GB, 500GB, W8.1, 2 yrs; colors: red/white
Z50-70, i5-4210U,Nvidia 840M + (1920x1080)@RM2399, 4GB, 1TB, W8.1, 2 yrs

The only 2 laptop I can find with FHD under 2.5k, as swapping a 256SSD and add 4G ram will cost you around 500++

Y410p? hmm.gif

No idea about the mSATA slot, not enough quota + lazy to check laugh.gif
*
i checked y410. It seems like y410 is using m2 instead of msata, which is still quite expensive around...
I am currently looking at flex 2-14 or z50, but wonder if 840m and survive for another 2-3 yrs

Hello, as your requirement there are a lot brands in marketing (Asus, Lenovo & MSI).
But, MSI has model call GP60 2PE c/w fully gaming feel and can speed up working time.
GP60 2PE-283MY
Intel i7-4710HQ, 15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080)
Nvidia GT840, 4GB RAM
750GB HDD (option to upgrade to mSata)
Killer E2220 Lan (high speed networking)
Market price: RM2,999

1. Preferred Brand:Any Brand
2. Budget: say...2-2.7k
3. Usage : office, surfing, sometimes game (old COD) and CAD drawing (simple)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14

prefer lighter weight, better heat dissipation performance (my hand almost 'cooked' by my old laptop) battery is not a concern, hardisk doesn't matter (will change ssd)
flex 2-14 looks perfectly fine, but wonder if 4210-u is good enough.

inspiron 15 7537 i7 HD. rm2700..... n sry u can't view it in pc fair... no stock for tat dell dealer .. all we took de
*
that's 15.6, doesn't really suit me..
btw I saw dell coming out 13 7347 2in1, very similar to flex 2-14.
however i wonder if it is 500 more x than flex 2-14,
having a rough comparison, flex 2-14 gives full HD, GT 840m, while 7347 looks more clash, can fully bend and having a stylus.considering lenovo started to giv on site service, that's not an advantages anymore for dell.

care to share w 7347 is worth about?cuz with nearly to 3k, i can go for mba 13 in which has ad equipped with an ssd (touch is not important for me )

u only get those fancy units for it light weight... not much on performance... get something real solid....

u won't go wrong wif 7537 1... The HDscreen can look closely to fhd after update driver
*
7537 does looks great, but it is just a little bit too big for me..i nid to travel around quite often..
gt750 with it does fit my expectation, though...
