Hi, all pros. I have some issues here regarding the photography. I'm noob in photography so need you all pros to aid me.

Everytime after I import my raw photo to my PC, all my photos' colours appear to be quite dull and boring. And mostly all of the photos I have to edit using lightroom. ( increase contrast and tones ).

I'm not really fancy in editing in lightroom as it will drop the quality of the photo. I usually set white balance to auto. Play using aperture Priority with low ISO. Shutter speed will always be 2 times more than my camera lens length. I do not know what else I need to check already...... unsure.gif  unsure.gif  unsure.gif

For your info below is my camera and lense info.

Canon 70D.
Sigma 35mm F1.4 Art
Canon EFS 10-18mm STM
Canon EF 50mm F1.8 STM
*
That's because the Picture Style is removed when you import it into LR as a raw file. You get the Picture Style when viewing on camera and previewing in LR before importing.

Very sure it's because you didn't set your Export setting correctly. Make sure the quality is set to highest at the Export option.

Sorry for being noob. So possible to have my picture style imported into LR? Or I have to set the picture style using the canon software provided?

I always export using the following settings

Image Format: JPEG
Quality: 100
Color Space: sRGB

But I can see that my photo looks grainy. My ISO is only around 400 and the grainy looks quite significant once I set it to 100% standard zoom in LR. I'm not sure is it because of my photo taking skill or not... Or because of the further 1.6x times crop using APSC crop sensor camera?
*
LR wont read the picture style, Canon's own DPP might be able to (not sure since I never use it before).

Post a sample picture and I can tell you if it's normal. Mind you every changes you made in Lightroom will alter the amount of grain on your picture.

Sorry OT...
I am looking to buy a new PC. Is Intel Celeron processor good enough for Photoshop and Canon Digital Photo Professional?
*
I am running i5 + 8gb RAM on my computer yet I feel sluggish with Lightroom. Photoshop is alright but once the layers start to stack up you will notice the slow down also.

It depends on what size of file you are running (for example the Megapixel of your camera), and how heavy your editing is most of the time (one global adjustment eats lesser processing power compared to multiple local adjustments).

Hi guys, wanna ask whether i should go for Canon 760D or Canon 70D? heard that 760D reviews are not so good from what i googled and should top up some to get canon 70D. But the 760D offer better processor and higher megapixel. but seem these 2 advantages still not enough to cover 70D. From review that i got from google. so do u guys think?
*
70D anyday if you can afford it. The extra megapixel and processor is kinda useless to be honest.

Tbh I don't see the market of it after the a7rII was launched. Canon's dynamic range is nowhere near Sony.

Just 1 noob question,

if i ever take a scence that has very much highlight ( like blue sky) and mountain that has very much shadow.

Should I stop down or should I shoot remain as it over expose?

I heard Shadow doesnt keep many data in it, so by shooting a picture that is over expose which is better than a picture under expose.
*
arr, why don't you experiment with it yourself leh? laugh.gif

canon eos m

any problem focussing towards backlighted subject?
*
don't expect too much from the Autofocus of that camera i would say. It's alright when backlight but you need to use it in a specific way to get the best performance.

for screen brightness, I don't really face the problem of not being able to see clearly, it's just like any other canon dslr screen.

battery life, well it's a mirrorless and the battery is small. expect around 200 shots per charge, around half day of shooting at best.

aperture stays the same, since the adapter is empty without any elements. AF, it depends on lenses, faster than typical canon dslr live view AF (excluding 70D, 650/700/750/750D and 7D II).

comparing it against the 100D is pretty much comparing a mirrorless to a dslr. you get smaller and lighter body(better built too with full metal shell) with the M, choice of lenses are alright (you have awesome UWA, alright kit lens, affordable and good 35mm prime, cheap telephoto). for dslr, you get more buttons, faster AF(M1 is slow but usable), better battery life, more lenses, better ergonomics(lack of physical button on M1).

feel free to ask if you need more info (i probably messed up some words since I am writing this on 420am morning).

Hi guys. Recently I had my Tamron 17-50 VC damaged badly by a freak accident & while the lens elements were probably unscathed, the internal housing broke off. Gonna assume it's a totaled lens.

Any suggestions for walkarounds to replace it? My budget won't be able to fit a Canon 17-55mm. Looking to spend as little as possible. Thanks!
*
if you don't mind variable aperture, the canon 18-135mm IS STM is pretty good. definitely a step up in terms of focusing compared to tamron, but a little worse IQ and quite a lot smaller aperture.

No longer have time to play as much, so the two lenses I use all the time now is the 10-22 and the broken 17-50.  sad.gif I've got two primes but they have been sitting in my dry box for a long time now.
Hm. It sounds like a good option. Will consider. How about larger aperture walkaround lenses?

Maybe Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 C lens? I think someone from this thread is using it, should be good enough smile.gif

I am seeing a little bug jumping across the viewfinder over the last few months. Have opened the lense and did not find anything, doesnt effect the photos taken. Left the body without lense for an hour but nothing crawled out. Called the Canon service centre, they say must leave it there for a week plus to determine problem and there is a charge.

Anyone with some advice that I can do myself?

I am considering to use the vacumm cleaner blower, from the lense opening. Not sure if there is a passage connected to the viewfinder. But, wanted some advice before I do any damage.

Looked for advice on the net,
One advice was to place in a bag and put into a freezer.
https://www.ephotozine.com/forums/topic/tin...amera-----71513

Others include upgrading firmware to fix the bug....but I wasn't laughing

Someone just launched a 4K capable micro4/3 camera the size of a gopro on Kickstarter. For USD 549

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/208178...ble-lens-camera

I'm pretty damn sure it's going to be a vapoware.

A little too optimistic on the performance imo.

Anyways if it managed to get into production it will be a game changer for sure.

thanks for your reply, indeed i cant find many reviews of the lens in the www on this lens, for sure 22mm vs 50mm, if in terms of bokeh, surely the 22mm lose biggrin.gif (f/2 vs f/1.8 and focal length)...

but am curious, about the focusing performance of the 22mm compared to say, the 50mm, i wanted to compare because i had a 50mm f/1.8 II before, and both are budget lens so i can get better understanding smile.gif
*
Lens is pretty awesome for the price. It's sharp, have quite smooth bokeh, not bad close focus ability and a bright f2 aperture. It's a little noisy sometimes when the focusing motor travel through a long focal range but for normal usage the focusing is alright in bright to normal light, not really fast but usable. I would say it wins the 50mm for focus accuracy since the M is using contrast detection, for speed they are on par to me.

The biggest cons would be the REALLY heavy vignette at f2. It's so obvious that the corner is around 2 stops darker in my observation, coupled with Canon's sensor that hates shadow lifting it might causes quite a lot of noise when you correct it.

I am located at Kampar currently and if you want to try the 22mm and EOS M I have both of them smile.gif

Some sample pictures taken by the lens (not really accurate representation of the quality since I edit most of my shots quite a lot).
