So you're using greenify then? Greenify works by stopping the background process.
Not per say the "limitation" of Miui. My sis's Mi3 receive notifications fine. So it's probably on your side. Check your app permission, check your settings, etcetc.

GPS is needed for 4square, check in and google now. I do use these apps sometimes so it's kinda inconvenient

MIUI ROM definitely will have lots of issues now.
I believe it's related to the Android L + Mi4 + MIUI V6.

From the looks of things, I think MIUI is experimenting on some things, hence the unprecedented issues on stable rom

My have no problem, only Antutu Benchmark drop from 35800 to 32500 (No that i care).

Some complaint call problem, some complaint data cut off during call (All Maxis user).

Some complaint GPS problem (Some solved it by adjusting a few setting, some still doesn't works).
