Hi,
i am curious, did you verify with online scanners such as Jotti's(multi scanner engine) to confirm that it is a virus infected file or it could be an FP or a zipped file or maybe a damaged file with virus leftover hanging out that NOD32 ignored but AVG picked up?

nod32 is a paid software. I am not sure which version you guys tested but my version of nod32 is paid and it works fine.

In fact, it's much better than norton/symantec AV. And most other free AV. It can detect a little bit of common worms which cannot be detected by pure av software like nav or avg free.

So, if you only have antivirus to install on your PC, nod32 is a good choice. So is antivir by avira which is getting quite good as it can detect lots of worms. But both is different cause one is paid and the other is free.

there you go. fariz gave you a very good guide here: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=277360
as long as you do this, NOD32 is excellent. very effecient and dosen't hog your ram.

there is only one fool proof way if you want to go to dangerous waters. use some hdd imaging software. for example, i use norton ghost.

1. go to http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/. download BartPE.
2. install norton ghost. copy ghost32.exe, gdisk32.exe.
3. now put in the windows xp installation cd, use bartPE to make a bootable cd. include the ghost file in.
4. now you have a bootable cd independent of the hdd.
5. make sure your comp is totally clean. you may like to format it.
6. use ghost, make an image of it. it will b xxxxx.gho. if you split the files, it will b xxxxx.gho, xxxxx001.ghs, xxxxx002.ghs
7. now you have a image of your windows partition / disk

now whenever you think that you are spyware/trojan/virus infected, simply copy out your data, and 'ghost' your c drive. your comp will then be exactly the same as when you make the image of it.

alternatively, you can use the 16bit version but it is very slow. this one you can run with floppy disk.

hope u understand wat i am talking about biggrin.gif

wouldn't it be easier to set restore point of your window ?

I thought Smart Security is a suite itself? Non related to add-on, it's build within.

I'd tested ESS (during RC stage) and it works fine.

Just a note to clear some dust:
I have used NOD32 AV for like 2 years. The only incident that has happened was NOD32 failed to detect Brontok.G, but Kaspersky picked it up.

We cannot say NOD32 is lousy. Why? Simply because it has an extremely small Viral Footprint. Compared to Kaspersky, Norton, AVG etc, they use Signature Based Detection, which in other words, Have a HUGE Viral Database.

NOD32 is so reliable all this while, simply because it has the Most Advanced YET Accurate Heuristics Engine.

Thus, I would recommend Having NOD32 as a MAIN/Primary AV, while having a Non-Intrusive AV as a Backup/Secondary AV.

Cheers!

the new nod32 process called ekrn.exe is killing my CPU with almost 99% CPU load at random times.

Google it and you can find many complain about it. that is the only drawback that i feel uneasy at the moment

Which version are you on? In the earlier version 3.0.551 there was such as issue. In version 3.0556 it was supposedly fixed.

WTH? ESET memory consuming problem still not fixed yet? Gees.

Only during ESS this problem occured. Must be some new coding. Hmm.

ESS = ESET Security Suite
basically it's NOD32 antivirus bundled with firewall and anti-spam
