Yes, we can't totally stop dust from getting through, only to cut down and prolong the period of cleaning. You must have saved a lot of money by doing own maintenance.  icon_rolleyes.gif

I've been doing this for a long time. Learn from aircond cleaner / technician that used to come and clean & service my office's aircond.

Very easy job. I take about an hour or less. My home aircond have been working well ever since (more than 7 years) without any professional service done..

Well, at most we can reach the blowers. The condenser fins still need to be cleaned by the service personnel smile.gif Even the dust accumulated on the blower fins can be difficult to remove. Vacuum alone is not enough. I had to use a small brush to dislodge the dirt. Quite time consuming.
*
I'm washing the fins on condenser with a mixture of chemical solution after removing entire plastic casing and cleaning condenser plate at the same time, blow drainage pipe to clear any clogging debris. As for blower, can vacuum abt 90% of the dirt, it depends what model of aircon you are using, mine allowed easy access after removing most if the moving parts. A hard bristle brush is needed to clear dirt that's stuck on fan blade, it can get really messy.

Lol....same here. Learnt from them while they doing all the washing. The only thing we cannot remove is the pipe for gas.

Cool same like mine.. When from new installed until today, From my blower still using an extra filter, even the Aircon man nothing to said, they said like this case, if everyone to be the same, from their serving program would be cut down 80% ha ha.

The 1st is aluminum fins didn't blocking on dust of the airflow still remain like new performance, just remember for change the filter on every month only.

Dunno why your can't open

Why I resort to doing this myself is because the repairman failed to clear the water outlet even with constant reminder, water leak barely 3 months after servicing. After doing my own maintenance, everything went well. For clearing dirt build up in pipe, I usually pour a big bowl of bleach and water mixture onto condenser plate, let it flow through the water outlet.

As for cooling fins, I sprayed them with Mr. Muscle (Mold and Mildew), let the foam stay on for 10 mins before I rinse it off with water. Thanks for sharing the new link.

Not that difficult to clean the ac. As for gas piping, as long as there's no leaking (the installation must be flawless) then everything should be good for years to come.

Similar reason why I do it myself. Satisfied with my own workmanship. Nice tips of using bleach and Mr. Muscle... thumbup.gif

Do you have a huge plastic bag underneath when you rinse it off with water? Otherwise you have to dismantle the entire unit and bring it somewhere to clean.

Nope, all these water will flow out through condenser plate, just have to pour it slowly to prevent over flow. Dismantling entire unit consist of disconnecting gas pipe, this can only be done by aircon repairman.

WARNING: CROOK AND BULLY- VINCO Sales & Services Electrical and Aircon Services

I was home alone when 2 technicians arrived. They cleaned my ac with just a cloth and took out the opening cover and filter to the toilet for washing (which is less than 10 mins job) and refilled my ac gas without my approval. Best thing is i asked for 1 to be clean and they cleaned 3 and told me after. I didnt want tell them off cuz again, its done and no point arguing over it especially when there r 2 of them

When they invoiced me the amount, i nearly fell off the chair. I felt cornered and didnt wanna make a scene as i was home alone with these 2 men. it is ridiculously high and its not right to bully a home alone woman like this. I called the boss up later and complained about this, he gave me a discount of RM100 but i'm very unhappy with this and i told him to keep the balance as I'm bringing this forward to share with all my friends especially housewives or single women who might feel bullied by these kind of behaviour. If you want your aircon clean at max half the price, PM me.

OR BETTER STILL DIY.

I haven been using solvent based cleaner from USA. Problem is when used it there is tendency to inhale the mist. I ended getting asthmatic attacks. Then I switched to safe biodegradable product recently through online. The company gets it manufactured in Singapore. Check it out Www.pranafas.com. I bought it via lelong.my. I asked whether they have cleaning bag for washing the blower. Currently under R&D. Nevertheless they even shared how to do your own bag from any large bag especially garbage bag. It's easy. Cost me less then rm20 for the bag+Sprayer pump. For blower cleaning you can dilute with water.

Replaced Daiso Aircon filter cloth few weeks ago, see the amount of dust and dirt trapped by the cloth. Overall I'm happy with the performance, cheap and useful. Without this filter, those dirt will get into the fan blade. Air flow not restricted in my opinion.

Used filter cloth after 2 months - Left / New filter cloth for replacement - Right

Your place must be very dusty. Mine doesn't look that bad even after 3 months, and I stay beside a busy road. I never open my windows though.
