Doesn't really look particularly eye-catching. Maybe it's the angle.

His front bumper, if properly fitted, looks much better than the one made by R3 for the Persona. Somehow it just doesn't look nice.

In deep  my heart so happy till can appear in my face. I go to proton showroom Mutiara  Damansara with all my family (ye lah first time buy new car rite smile.gif )to collect my first car PERSONA SV AUTO.

When i arrived there the salesman show me my  car.. WOOWW i so happy.

After that  i found all the door cant close properly like other car, this door i need to push  till  end body car  with energy force to make sure that  door close tight n properly.

So i told the salesman i don't want this car, please change  me with another new persona sv !!!

Just imagine my friends , i never use that  car but already found the problem, so after  used ... just  guest lah??

Proton told me they want to send back the car to Tanjung Malim for inspection.

I never used my car but already  need to deal with customer services..
I don't know they will change me to new car or still will give me the same car, just imagine i will remember this sad incident forever in my life when drive that car.

Hi. I am buying a Proton Persona SE' 2008 from a used car dealer. Can anyone please tell me what things to check when buying a second hand proton car?? This is my first time buying a Proton. So I really don't know what to look for. I have already paid the booking and I'm waiting for the car to go for inspection in puspakom. The dealer insisted once the inspection is done, I pay him full.

Can anyone please accompany me to check the car, before I officially get it??

For a Persona:
1) Turn the steering left and right with or without car movement. If there's a "wheeee" sound while turning, it's likely due to the lack of maintenance for the power steering system, i.e fluid replacement not done at recommended intervals or at all.

2) Check for engine mounting condition. A Persona with engine mountings in a good condition shouldn't have much vibrations at all. Observe the steering wheel, rear and side mirrors. They should be barely shaking, and so should the interior of the car. If for any reason the vibration in the car seems intrusive, the engine mountings probably need to be replaced.

3) Turn the engine on with the air-cond turned on as well. If there's a high pitched noise coming from the engine bay, it could be due to either a worn-out FEAD (accessory) belt, or one or more bearings connected to the FEAD belt are worn out, e.g the FEAD belt tensioner. At the same time check if the radiator fan is turning when the air-cond compressor is engaged, and if yes, how fast. The radiator fan for non-Elegance Personas is generally loud at the highest speed and should produce no squeeking noise. If it does, the fan motor probably needs replacement.

4) For the blower  module, turn the blower to the Off position and observe. If for any reason the blower comes on at the off position, the blower module needs to be replaced. If no, turn it to the on position and observe again. The fan speed should be constant as long as the fan speed switch is not being moved. If for any reason the blower speed fluctuates, the module probably needs to be replaced.

5) Check for the audio controls on the steering wheel. General feedback for it is that it normally fails after some time and goes haywire, e.g raising the volume without any input if I remember correctly.

6) Like all Protons, check if the power windows are working. It should not be making any noise at all if it's in a good condition. If there seems to be some creaking noise when going up or down, something within the power window system may require replacement, e.g window regulator.

7) And like all other cars, bring it out for a drive. The drive should be pretty smooth and quiet (provided that the tyres are decent and and both the tyres and shocks are in a good condition), e.g no humming sound (that could indicate a worn out wheel bearing). Check for the CV joints condition (located at each end of the drive shaft) by turning while moving. There should not be any clicking or weird noise while turning (that could indicate worn out CV joints). Try out the ABS module by getting up to speed and applying the brake heavily (and safely). Listen for any high pitched noise while braking. It could be either due to worn out brake pads, worn out rotors and etc.

List of common "issue" for the Persona:
a) Braking noise when coming to a complete stop (sounds like "nguup"). Can be avoided by applying the brake earlier so that the braking force applied can be gradually reduced to almost zero or zero (car stops itself by road friction) upon reaching a set of traffic lights or an intersection. Annoyance level subjected to driver/passengers preference.

b) Slight loose metal knocking noise coming from the driver's footwell when going over multiple small bumps on the road, or going up/down on the ramps shaped like arrows of car parks. Generally not really a big annoyance; rarely appears.

c) The usual rattling or interior noise for many Proton cars. For the Persona, they are generally solvable and are in small numbers and it's normally due to poor workmanship/QC during installation of interior bits and pieces. If you're lucky, yours won't have any noise at all. If it does, you'll have to either take some time off to pinpoint the source and apply corrective measures or pay someone to do it for you.

Edit:

Additional things to do if you want:
a)Knock on the body panels of the car, especially the door. If for any reason a door has been repaired, its panels could possibly be thinner. You can check by opening the doors of the car and closing them with moderate force. The doors of the car should not sound like tin cans and the doors on one side of the car should sound similar to the one on the other.

b) Check the gap between the boot and the tail lights. They should be pretty small. You shouldn't be able to get even your pinky through the gap. If you can, the car may have been rear-ended. Additional tell-tale signs are the car number plate holder (shouldn't be cracked), and the spare-wheel compartment of the car (should not exhibit any crumpling and the sort).

c) Check the tail lights for functionality. When braking, the outer circle of the tail lamps lights up only together with the high mounted stop lamp. With the lights of the car turned on, the outer and middle circle of the tail lights should be turned on, but only the outer circle bulb increases in intensity (and the high mounted stop lamp comes on again) when the brake pedal is applied. This part of the car is generally unchecked by many, and you can see quite many Personas with the crop circle style tail lights with one or more lights not working.

d) Oh, and check and secure the tow-hook cover (located in the middle and bottom of the rear bumper). The part that secures the tow-hook cover to the bumper or skirting can break easily overtime, and it may fall out if that happens. Costs over RM50 if I'm not mistaken, and the car looks pretty bad with a gaping hole in the bottom part of the bumper.

Hi.

There's not much you can do about the heat as the Campro engine runs rather hot (average of 88C during operation). If you feel worried however, make sure the coolant is changed regularly and properly as well(as in to use distilled or RO water rather than tap water to fill the radiator after pouring coolant in to prevent rust). Good things aren't cheap, cheap things aren't (sometimes) good.

Spend more on the radiator coolant (2L should be enough for both the radiator and excess tank), and get about 15L of distilled water (RM1.8) each if you want to flush the radiator, or just about 5L or so if you're just topping up the radiator and the excess tank and not filling the entire cooling system (which includes the coolant pathways through the engine).

Edit: If I'm not mistaken, the last time I tried topping up the radiator, I used about 3L or less only after pouring the coolant in. Whatever it is, just pour it in slowly if you don't want to waste your precious coolant until it reaches the top of the radiator. If you have a radiator attachment that allows air bubbles to be vented out of the radiator while preventing the water from flowing out under pressure, that would be great. Otherwise the best alternative is probably to drive the car and let the air bubles flow out from the excess radiator coolant line to the excess tank and out from there (there are two hoses; one which goes into the excess tank: the one for the coolant retrieval, another for the air bubble(s) I believe).

Not necessarily always green. It depends on the coolant itself. For my case, I bought Castrol Radicool (SF or something, forgot), and it was blue in color.

Yes, you can fill the radiator yourself. You can empty it by opening the pet-cock located on the bottom left of the radiator (from your point of view when facing the engine from the outside and the front of the car). Once the water stops flowing out, screw it back tight and pour the coolant in (33% mix of total cooling system content), which works out to 1.67L in the radiator and 333ML in the excess tank if I remember correctly. The rest fill it up with distilled or RO water, and slowly to prevent overflowing. Check back regularly for a few days/weeks to see the level of the radiator content as it will reduce as the air bubbles escape from the system, if any.

hmm.gif Make sure your doors, bonnet and boot are closed properly first.
If after closing all and it still happened, send it to SC for checks.

first thing first.
-make sure the engine is cool from the beginning.
-start the engine.
-easily crank or not
-put into N hear any "tak tak tak" sound or not in the engine bay.
-then put into Reverse and hold the brake, got excessive shaking or not.
-make sure it is less then 1K RPM when idle
-full blast the air cond.it may running out of gas
-switch on all the lights and signals lights
-turn on and off the radio and play with button on the steering wheel.
-check the remote trunk on the key fob
-check the front and rear bumper.look for the plastic screw.already lost or not.
-check the tyre compartment for any rust.
-play with the wiper and the sprayer.
-make sure it is easy to close all the doors
-check the power windows
-check the central lock
-check the lighter socket it is working or not.
