Tu yang gua tak pahem... Semua cakap rental mahal cam pernah rent kat airport je..
Cuba banding airport ngan pavilion atau KLCC rental... Lebih kurang sama je..
Tapi Pavi and KLCC mampu buka food court murah jugak..
If they open a big food court and sell at reasonable price, I am sure volume pawn all other shop in airport

transport cost - bringing raw materials to airport usually is kinda far compared to other areas.

wages - ppl who worked there will factor in their own transport costs into their asking wages

rental - airport rental is not cheap considering they have a good supply of people

naturally, all costs will be passed to consumers

usually all cost levied on consumers.
e.g. to maintain margins most companies are secretly doing "price adjustment" this year so next year is ready for GST.
only natural for KLIA2 outlets to be expensive but the price is absurd.
imagine those uncle and aunty thought can save money buy AA ticket only RM100 but when go KLIA transport and makan alone would be almost equal the ticket price.
sounds stupid, right?

rental laa macha.... international airport is like a country-less place although it is in a country.in a capitalist world we take opportunity when we see it.

RM100 baru around 30USD/19GBP/33AUD

cheap cheap.

too bad most Malaysian have low income.

while the posh eateries catering for foreigners being overprice is acceptable , i think having a food court there with locals friendly pricing would be good.

at most places there is this duality.

KLCC/Pavi have food courts which although are still expensive but still acceptable.

Even a money swindling place like Genting has really cheapo food courts but hidden and tucked away but they exist.

Target market. Airport food and merchandise are targeted at those at the airport. A majority of such people would be those waiting for their flights, including those for layovers and connecting flights. This means they practically can't leave the airport and go somewhere to eat and then come back. In essence, such people are trapped in the airport.

If you have a bunch of people rich enough to fly stuck in your premise for hours, you too would take the opportunity to earn as much profit as you can. Airport management knows this, and thus charge their rental accordingly.

It's the same rationale for amusement parks, cinemas and many stadiums. Many such places do not allow outside food or beverages, forcing visitors to purchase from their own stands within.

Haha you go get quotation you will understand.

Airport not only will charge you rental, but will take a big portion of your REVENUE as well.

About 40% afaik.

SO imagine the margin they got there...

Most likely is the transport cost..

Nearby the airport got nothing also.. Making transportation cost to that area would be more than other area.. It is like prime are like Pavilion, KLCC, both places are so close that the transport fee can be minimized.. Because of more business in the prime area, the transportation cost could be lowered..

Likewise, there is not much retailer in KLIA area, those who deliver goods to that area will always tend to charge higher in order to yield higher return..

Same like Genting, you need to transport those goods to mountain area.. It is not cheap..

that's why...
if the airport staff them self complaining it's still can be consider la...
and here are some good tips to get cheap food...
always ask the staff....either in genting or airport
don't be shame to ask makcik/pakcik/abang/kakak/bangla/myanmar/vietnam/indonesia cleaner worker where to get a good and cheap food around thumbup.gif

p/s:
but one thing i encounter most of the time...
in those places(genting or airport)..
the "cheap" food stall seller alreay become "pro" to distinguish you as 1st timer customer and their regular aka (genting or airport) staff
so the pricing will be different...but of course it's all up to the seller laa...

If you cant afford to eat at the airport, then you cant afford to go abroad. I checked all airports I visited, all of them have prices higher than downtown or normal malls.

And...the prices charged at KLIA\KLIA2 are similar to most other places I visit. Once out of Malaysia, be prepared to pay in USD.

Easy example. A bowl of noodles in KLIA2 with drink is about RM15, that is say USD5. If you go to Busan, airport food there starts from USD6-10. In Japan, a simple bowl of rice n eggs/chicken with green tea is USD7. In Cambodia, the coffee is USD3 per cup.

In Thailand, Don Muang has a buffet which is cheap... RM20 or less per pax, but their other cafes also charge similar to our KLIA.

I dont remember about Indonesia. I remember MACAU was so expensive. USD15-20 a bowl of noodles that I starved and wait for AA nasi lemak on board. RM15 seems a steal.

I still remember I eat burger king at shanghai pudong airport....1 set of BK whooper triple deck (pork) cost me about RMB 50+....which I upgrade my drink to carlsberg beer (the tall tin 1) thumbup.gif

first the tourist enter our country dont know the price of our food and they pay what ever they been charged,,,
second the tourist who leaves the country spend all the local currencies b4 they board the flight, so they dont calculate on cheap or costly at airport..

I find that burger king, McD, KFC prices are similar or slightly higher, just no sets. Never tried kopitiam.

Waiting for premium lounge to open outside. The premium lounge in KLIAII after immigration only at L - so, those going to K, P, Q, no food.

When people are already in the airport , they have no where to eat except in the airport itself and most people don't really look at the prices when it comes to eating there. To them it's alright afterall, it is not very often that they are going to the airport. The owners of restaurants there are fully aware of this and take advantage to maximize their profits.

Ask ourselves if we go to the airport say once every few months or even once a month, most of us don't really care about the prices of the food sold there.
