I thought I'd share this since it's not obvious to a lot of people. In fact, even I didn't realise it until a friend made me aware of this last week after he inquired about downgrading his package.
Note the bolded and underlined part.
He signed on to the RM179 package six months ago, and wanted to downgrade to the RM149 package because the new upgraded speed of 100Mbps for the lower plan was more than enough for his needs.
He expected to have his contract renewed/reset to 24 months, but was shocked when he was told that it was 24 months on top of the 18 months he still had left on his current contract, making it 42 months
. I don't think even Unifi does this for service downgrades.
So, there you go, when picking a Time Fibre Broadband package, be sure of the speed you want and can commit to paying for it for the duration of your contract, because a downgrade can and will be very painful.
Needless to say, my friend was
and will not hesitate to look for alternatives when the time comes.
I called TIME call center to clarify since there are too many versions of info in this forum. here are what i gathered from my query:Note the bolded and underlined part.

1. all existing customers are upgraded to new speeds of 100, 300 & 500Mbps with the current price they are paying (i.e. 100Mbps @ RM129 for 10Mbps existing customer. retail price is RM149. so save RM20)
2. customer may choose to upgrade or downgrade WITHOUT any penalty or contract renewal for 1 time allowance (i.e. migrated customer 300Mbps @ RM179 (old 20Mbps) can downgrade to 100Mbps without penalty or additional contract. pay retail price RM149 for 100Mbps)
3. after 1 time allowance, if customer decides to change package again, then recontract 24 months. NOT ON TOP, but refresh contract for 24 months
4. new customer will follow the normal rule (without 1 time change allowance). the allowance is only for the existing customer who got migrated to the new package.
most customer would just stay at the migrated package i.e. 100Mbps @ RM129 because of the perpetual discount. the discount lasts forever or until u change plan or terminates the account.
