if we still fail to land BR's target, we need to overhaul the recruiting committee first  biggrin.gif

If look at history of league table, the champion most of the time having
1. One of best goal difference
2. One of team the scored the most goal
3. One of least goal conceded

The champion may not the best of 1,2,3 but it won't too far away from it, may ranked in front of the 3 category.

Man Utd did it many times by having the best score and least conceded to crown champion of the league.
Same with Chelsea, Arsenal during its year of invincible.

Liv managed doing it 1 & 2, but not doing well for 3.

Yup winning the league will mean you're one of the best at something. Thing is it's hard to be the best at everything especially if you don't have the sort of money to purchase world class players in every position and have 11 other internationals on the bench.

Without going too far back, let's look at the most recent champions :-

2013-2012 : Man Utd ( Top scorers, 5th best defence)
2012-2011 : Man City ( Top scorers, best defence)
2011-2010 : Man Utd ( Top scorers, 3rd best defence)
2010-2009 : Chelsea (Top scorers, 2nd best defence)
2009-2008 : Man Utd (Joint second top scorers, Joint best defence)

What you've said is true.

The goals we've conceded though have largely been down to defensive errors. For us, it's probably more about finding a balance. Agger and Skrtel were boss one season and were found wanting the next when we played a higher line. We have shown in some games that we can defend as a team but we don't often do that because we're always looking to press high. This led to my 2nd of 2 points where we need to look at dropping deeper when the momentum of the game swings in favour of the opposition if only just momentarily.

This reminds me of the "total football" of the Dutch national team in the late 1970s.

I remember the wave of orange moving forward in attack and moving back in defence. A friend of mine told me around that time that Liverpool played like a machine - everybody going up in attack and everybody running back in defence - in a somewhat similar system of play. Pretty awesome system.

As one can imagine, very energy sapping too! Will we be able to see that again?

I think liv will raid Southampton.. lovren, shaw n lallana bidding war.. means Southampton will have at least 40mil to spend in the summer..

Should get a power striker also.. power+strenght+pace likes Lukaku. At times we need plan b for someone could hold up ball.. now Suarez and Sturridge all depending on good passes from the midfield. If Lukaku has good technical ability, 1-2 touch passes, flick pass, calm guided header etc etc.. could work very for our style of football..

Maybe Lambert? Cheaper alternative.. also another reason why BR wanted to keep AC but AC technical abitity piss poor. He needs someone could hold up and build up play

Noticed whenever Suarez n Sturridge back down to receive ball.. either get tackled or getting tracked down

Haha..I know what you mean about Molby (mid 80s to 90s), but the "total football" like system that I witnessed was from a slightly earlier era.

I'm referring to the likes of Jimmy Case, David Johnson, Alan Kennedy, Ray Kennedy, Sammy Lee (yes despite his height, he was speedy), Terry McDermott, Phil Neal, Graeme Souness, Phil Thompson and (yes) Kenny Dalglish!

Cannot vouch that it was exactly "total football" but from the stands, I could see the 'red wave' moving up and down together..mostly moving up those days!

So the epl goes to the final game.

Btw liverpool and ct.

City need 1 point and liverpool to not put 10-0 past newcastle or 3 point to be sure of winning or lose while liverpool fail to win

Liverpool only chance is to win and west ham win or win 10-0 while city draw.

Still a chance even though is super slim.

Anything can happen in football.liverpool leading at top during dec and 2 lose against ct n chelski put CL as the only realistic target. It is a 11winning streak and slip up from chelski n ct make liverpool hv a chance to be in the position after 37 epl game.it is never end until it is end.
The final day of the season will be the ultimate climax if both liverpool n west ham leading in their respective game.

Wether ct or liverpool win it is the best attacking football team who win the league and not some team with stupid noisy fan who not even in the race till the final day.

Early congrate to either liverpool or city as epl 2013/14 champion.

Well, if City wins it this season, I'd say that they deserved it.
Pure class football. And Yaya Toure, what a player he is.
