MALAYSIAN state player Petronas is screening floating production, storage and offloading vessel concepts for the Sepat oil and gas field in block PM 313 off Malaysia,

Local contractors Bumi Armada, M3nergy and SapuraKencana are among those that responded to the latest call for estimates for an FPSO.

The floater is required to be able to process 34,000 barrels per day of oil and 240 million cubic feet per day of gas. The FPSO is expected to have a 20-year field life. A wellhead platform will also likely be needed. First oil from Sepat is planned in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Petronas issued a market survey last October for an FPSO that would handle the field’s oil. The unit had an estimated processing capacity of about 25,000 bpd of oil and a planned field life of 10 years.

A wellhead platform would also be required as part of this development solution.

In 2013, the operator reviewed options for a central processing platform as an alternative concept to an FPSO.

A 20,000-tonne central processing platform and two wellhead platforms were originally planned to exploit Sepat’s gas with production start-up touted in 2017.

France’s Technip and Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering, Italy’s Saipem and SapuraKencana, McDermott of the US, and South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries submitted proposals for the front-end engineering and engineering, procurement and construction for these facilities.

Sepat has been flowing oil since 2011 via an early production system that uses the floating storage and offloading vessel named Sepat.
