Ryan Giggs retires from playing to become Manchester United assistant manager under Louis van Gaal

QUOTE
Ryan Giggs has played his final game for Manchester United after confirming his retirement to become Louis van Gaal's assistant manager.
The 40-year-old, who was handed his debut by Sir Alex Ferguson as a substitute against Everton at Old Trafford in March 1991, made his 963rd and final appearance for United as player-interim manager when appearing for the closing stages of the home win against Hull City two weeks ago.
With the Cardiff-born midfielder having also won 64 caps for Wales before emerging from international retirement to make four appearances for Team GB during the London Olympics in 2012, Giggs ends his career having made over 1,000 senior appearances for club and country.
The records and landmarks set by Giggs during his 23-year career are unlikely to be broken, with the player having won a remarkable thirteen Premier League titles at United.
Giggs has won every major honour in club football, with the exception of the Europa League, and amassed a total of 35 winners’ medals.

I agree. We should continue the numbers and build a tradition of great history with that number.

These are exciting times. Hopefully a new generation of heroes will emerge. I cannot wait to see who the new generation will be either.
Phil Neville and Chris Woods have been let go. I think most of the others will stay.

Initial reports suggest no Kluivert. LvG is bringing in his own choice of GK coach.
It's a romantic notion, but I doubt that. LvG is his own man. He wouldn't want other people to advise on tactics. He has Giggs to help assess and man manage the existing players. So there really isn't much room for Meulensteen and even if there was, it would be a reduced role. Which is the reason Meulensteen left in the first place.
No LTE consider flagship meh? whistling.gif
Got. MV plenty of LTE. biggrin.gif

Certain areas in Subang no LTE coverage...samo keep searching searching, waste battery lulz. KL area should be fine, but most of the time I'm fine with 3G haha.

Which telco are you using? I'm on Maxis, 3G more stable than LTE in my area lulz. But LTE on iPhone really drains battery kao2, another reason why i rarely use LTE

We need another CB for sure. Both Rio and Vida left us, so we are having shortage of CBs. Hummels, Badstubber, Subotic, Mangala, Varane, Thiago Silva or Benetia I don't mind. lulz.

Cesc or Vidal? Vidal for sure. Kroos or Muller? Muller of course (not likely). Sino v LVG? LVG for sure. He dare to show his **lls while sino? tongue.gif

Louis van Gaal ends Manchester United’s interest in Toni Kroos

QUOTE
Louis van Gaal has ended Manchester United’s interest in Toni Kroos, in what represents the new manager’s first major decision regarding the rebuilding of his squad this summer.

The Bayern Munich midfielder had been pursued by David Moyes, Van Gaal’s predecessor, with the 24-year-old identified as being able to help solve the deficit in United’s central midfield department.

Kroos, who impressed in a deep-lying role when Bayern knocked United out of last season’s Champions League, has only a year left to run on his contract at the German club.

Yet despite his ability to also play in the No10 role or as box-to-box midfielder, Van Gaal, who is aware of Kroos’s abilities from his own time managing Bayern, has decided he should not be a target for the club this close season.

Kroos’s current deal expires next summer but Bayern are still playing hardball over a new contract offer. Their president Karl Hopfner said: “There will certainly be further talks. But at some point the player has to say what he wants,” Hopfner said in an interview with Kicker magazine. “We will not exceed certain financial boundaries.”

Hopfner pointed to the case of Michael Ballack, who left the club for Chelsea in 2006, as a similar example. “It was the same with Michael Ballack and at some point we withdrew the offer.”

Even The Telegraph is reporting it. The only British press I trust is the Telegraph since the broke 2 news that were true, unlike others who followed...so yes. I have a feeling LVG turned his sight on other players

Lol jesse lingard and nick powell is going to play rb and cb? What weed are you smoking lol.

a 4123 formation is more conservative than LVG's traditional 4 3 3 formation. Mata has no pace and has to play somewhere central hence the 2 cm's, while arturo vidal is probably the best box to box midfielder currently who can push up to aid midfield and track back to protect the 4 backs which mind you is filled with 2 world class cb's and 2 very good fb's at least an upgrade defensively over rafael and luke shaw who is looking like he's going to claim England's LB as his own for the next 4-5 years.

Tbh i'm more used to a 4 4 2 formation where.

sagna hummels thiago Shaw

reus vidal  mata  koke

rooney persie

but the lineup is more LVG's total football. I don't see mata capable of shining anywhere except in a more central role because he doesn't have pace and have struggled the previous season playing wide roles. Thiago is a long shot because there's no way PSG will sell him and they are looking at improving their squad not selling their best players. But this is an ideal setup isn't it, and LVG has a reported 200m to spend doesn't he?

So the the setup is totally suitable btw, barca, real(previously) also use 4, 1, 2, 3

user posted image

Let's take a look at barca's lineup in comparison with my lineup using 200m that LVG is supposed to have.

Alves Puyol Pique Alba
          Busquets
      Xavi Fabregas
  Pedro Messi Inesta

Sagna Thiago Hummels Shaw
          Vidal
      Mata Fabregas
Reus/Koke Persie Rooney

And it boils down to the fact you know shit about football. Overall the team strength is above Barca except for Messi, Alves, Xavi & Inesta laugh.gif

P.s
Koke/Reus are versatile and can play l/r/c . And yes it boils down at the end of the day whether we can get any of these players but if money bags city can get them I don't see why we can't. We are money bags for at least this season after having saved for more than 5-10 seasons!
*
That is by far the worst 'possible' lineup I've seen in this thread. Share some of your weed please? So lets say that we revamp the squad by 75%, where does that leave the likes of Rafael, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Carrick, Cleverley, Fletcher,Fellaini,Valencia, Young,Januzaj,Nani,BEBE,Anderson? Sell all? Lol.

Hey, don't be harsh on Ronaldo. He was injured for two weeks and he passed a late fitness test to play in this game even when he is not 100% fit. Let's not forget he scored 17 goals in the UCL this season. Costa was unlucky, he shouldn't play at all. Bale had an outstanding season, something that surprises me because most of the British/Welsh players in Spain do not perform that well. Well done to RM and I am happy for them.

Van Gaal forces United to redraw transfer plans
QUOTE
The Dutchman has handed executive vice chairman Ed Woodward his own wanted list – which he expects to be delivered after he returns from World Cup duty with Holland.

Barcelona midfielder Fabregas was one of the names being considered by United in a summer of unprecedented spending for the club.

But Van Gaal insists the 27-year-old does not figure in his plans and has instructed Woodward to focus on alternative targets – including Kevin Strootman.

United are set to spend in the region of £200m to ensure a swift return to the Champions League after David Moyes’ disastrous reign saw them miss out on Europe altogether.

Toni Kroos, Luke Shaw, Marco Reus and Fabregas were all on Woodward’s wanted list even before Van Gaal’s appointment last week.

United’s targets have since been fine-tuned by their new manager, with the decision to end all interest in Fabregas the most significant change.

Van Gaal has handed his new employers his own shortlist of players he believes can fit into his total football philosophy.

Roma’s Strootman is one of the names on it, while he has given his approval to complete a move for Southampton’s England left back Shaw, which could cost as much as £30m.

United’s hopes of signing Kroos are fading, with the German midfielder intimating that he will stay at Bayern Munich. Van Gaal wants Borussia Dortmund centre back Mats Hummels, who he believes can fill the void left by Nemanja Vidic’s departure.

Dnipro winger Yehven Konoplyanka and Dortmund’s Reus are also targets.

The decision to omit Fabregas from his thinking is a clear indication that Van Gaal will do things his way at United.

Woodward has tracked the former Arsenal star ever since taking over transfer responsibilities from former chief executive David Gill last summer.

He believed he could land him 12 months ago as he looked to make a bold statement in his first transfer window.

Instead United were left embarrassed by their highly public and ultimately failed attempts to lure Fabregas back to the Premier League.

A humbling summer saw them miss out on other targets Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Leighton Baines and Thiago Alcantara – with Marouane Fellaini a desperate last minute signing on deadline day.

Juan Mata was bought for a club record £37.1m in January, but Woodward has long viewed this summer as his chance to make amends in the market.

That is why eyebrows were raised when Fabregas emerged as a target once more, with supporters fearing another frustrating chase.

Van Gaal, too, will not want to see his first transfer window follow the same path as Moyes’, which was largely blamed for the Scot’s struggles last season. On paper Fabregas would appear to suit 62-year-old’s philosophy as a multi-functional player with outstanding technical ability.

But the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has a clear idea of what is needed to revive United’s fortunes and does not believe the Spanish international is what is required.

He has identified midfield as a position in desperate need of address and sees Strootman’s physical power as ideal to add some steel to United’s lightweight engine room.

Roma are understood to be determined to hold on to the 24-year-old, dubbed the Dutch Roy Keane, who has been ruled out of the World Cup following a knee-ligament injury.

It may take in excess of £25m to convince the Italians to sell, but Woodward has made no secret of the fact that he is prepared to be bold in the transfer market in order to arm Van Gaal with a squad capable of challenging for the title next season.

Van Gaal does not want to be involved in any player negotiations, instead handing United a wanted list that he expects them to be able to deliver.

The pursuit of Shaw was already well underway before the Holland manager was confirmed as Moyes’ successor.

Patrice Evra’s new one-year deal will not dampen United’s interest, but could lead the 18-year-old to reconsider his options.

Having broken into Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad, he will want to be sure of first team football at Old Trafford in order to challenge Baines in the England team next season.

United will tell Shaw that they believe the experienced Evra’s presence will help his development at the club.
