3) This is also consider as media player that I can play movies from my external HDD/pendrive, is it??

4) If let's say in the future I want to watch those pay IPTV, this device can support it??

5) the air mouse recommended to have or not if really I want to play game using this android box??

Thank you for inquiry. Pls find below my answer :
1). Yes, we preinstall common streaming apps to watch English dramas/movies and Chinese apps to watch HK TVB drama for both Mandarin and Cantonese, China and Korean dramas. You could stream from website as well.

2). I do not recommend to play game with Android box so far unless you have compatible USB wireless joystick. To watch you YouTube and youku, just to be noted that youku has Geo restriction control.

3). The advantage of Himedia box is it support wide range of audio and video codec. You can use it as media play support BDISO, BD3D, BDMV, DTS HDMA, Dolby True HD Atmos and etc.

4). As well as iptv service support Android device you can use it. Pls check my buyer reference guide at the beginning of this thread. Some iptv service is good, some crash randomly.

5). Air mouse is optional, you could replace with PC mouse as well. Play game is not recommend as mentioned earlier.

Will pm you the total price.

AVFAN,

Can you do the video frame rate tests in post number 653?

If you're having trouble downloading the test files, please let me know and I can send you a dropbox link.

Thanks.

Hi nicety,

Would you be kind enough to carry out the following test patterns on the HiMedia Q16 and advise they pass? I.e. the bars move slowly?

Link to the test patterns are here: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/40-oled-tech...ml#post27543473

The combined file which as all the test patterns is 144MB long.

If other owners of the HiMedia Q16 can also test their device to see if it pass the video test patterns, would appreciate it.

This and the ability to overcome Complex Seamless Branching encoded within the video are the only things outstanding that's preventing me from pulling the trigger on the Q16.smile.gif

Would like to know if you can fill an overseas order? How to do? Currently living in Hong Kong so the product is going the long way around and take the garden path route to my place.  biggrin.gif

Thanks.

Edit: The display has to support the video pattern tests and not all displays do this. To check, use a known blu-ray player (such as Oppo) that does support all video formats and test on the display. If the blu-ray player with the display pass the video test patterns then the display can be used for checking the HiMedia Q16.  With the HiMedia Q16 is connected to the display, use the same video test patterns does it pass?

Bro, please find below test result :

1). 1080p23.976 = smooth

2). 1080p24 = smooth

3). 1080p25 = not smooth

4). 1080p29.97 = smooth

5). 1080p30 = smooth

6). 1080p50 = not smooth

7). 1080p59.94 = smooth

8). 1080p60 = smooth

9). 720p50 = not smooth

10). 720p59.94 = smooth

11). 720p60 = smooth

In summary 25p and 50p are not smooth, the rest 23.976, 24, 29.97, 30, 59.94, 60 are smooth.

^ nicety,

Thank your for testing the video files.

I intend to also carry out the tests to confirm your findings. I have the Oppo BDP-93 universal blu-ray player that can play the test files and will do a comparison between the Oppo and HIMEDIA Q16 player.

nicety,

What is the largest USB 3.0 external HDD that the Q16 can support now? I'm thinking of getting the Seagate Expansion USB 3.0 8TB Desktop External Hard Drive (STDT8000100) for storing movies and tunes for playing back on the Q16.

I also note that Seagate has the 8TB 3.5" internal HDD (model number ST8000AS0002) that can be put into a docking station.

Would also like to know if the Q16 can support this large capacity HDD?

Thanks.

So far I have no chance to test HDD larger than 3TB, but I believe it is not a problem to support as well as the space is not larger than NTFS maximum partition size.

To be noted that typical HDD life span is 3-5 years, if you put all movies into single harddisk , everything gone if the HDD crash. I would suggest you consider NAS with minimum 3 HDD and configure RAID 5 such that you don't lost data when one of the HDD crash.

So far I have no chance to test more than 3TB, however I do not see any problem to support as well as the HDD size not more than NTFS maximum partition size.

However, I don't recommend put all movies in one disk. If the HDD crash then all movies gone. I would advise to consider NAS with minimum 3 HDD and configure RAID 5 to tolerate one disk failure.

nicety,

Is there a way to disable the WiFi on the HIMEDIA Q16? I intend to do a direct wired connection (use the Ethernet port) to the local network switch which is wired to the router.

Is the WiFi needed for any special feature HIMEDIA Q16 that's not available via the Ethernet port?

Thanks.

To turn off your WIFI in Q16 is same as you turn your Android phone WIFI, just goto setting -> click WIFI setting to OFF.

Yes, Proxy setting is in the WIFI setting, you could not add proxy if turn off WIFI.

Dear Customers,

The pre-installed HD Cinema has been taken down, the app won't work anymore. Unfortunately, this is one of the best app with smooth HD streaming.

nicety,

Please advise the size of the partition and how much space on the eMMC is taken up by the Android operating system (4.4 Kit kat)?

Would also like to know remaining space available for apps.

How much "working space" does an app need on the eMMC before one has to start deleting existing apps to increase the "working space".

The reason I ask this is the Q5 has half the eMMC of the Q16 and would like to know if this is sufficient.

Thanks.

Below is partition ratio for Q5and Q16 :

Model : OS / Apps / balance

Q5. 2GB / 2GB / 4GB
Q16. 2GB / 4GB / 10GB

Different apps has it own requirement for working space, Kodi could set the buffering space, torrent base streaming app require the entire movies space as working, Q5 limited to 4GB and movies if watch Popcorn Time.

Hi nicety,

Can you confirm that the HiMedia wrapper has been installed for Kodi? Would like to use Kodi as the user interface and launch the HiMedia player for videos within Kodi. This way the HD audio and 3D ISO playback can happen. My understanding is that Kodi cannot natively do so yet.

Thanks.

Bro, you have received Q16 in Hong Kong already ?

If you refer to my box, the wrapper is not installed because there is side effect to some addons if not using native Kodi player. The Kodi that I installed is still using Kodi native player. To play HD audio or 3D ISO, I will recommend to use Himedia player from Media center in MG launcher.

However, the wrapper is available in my Skydrive(APK folder), just download from my skydrive to install.
