nicety,

Thanks for confirming that there' support for Dolby Atmos in the latest firmware.

Would like to ask about support for 29.976 video frame rate. Does the Q16 support this?

Edit: Would it be possible to control the Q16 with an android phone?

Would be appreciated if you could further explain about 29.976 video frame rate?
For movies on blu-ray it is related to NTSC video format. My understanding is that all US blu-ray discs are recorded this way. Once the display is set for NTSC, to prevent micro-stuttering the source device must be able to output 23.976 frames per second to the display with a 3:2 pull down applied.

Wikipedia explains it much better than me here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24p
George Hupka explains it even better here: http://www.quora.com/What-is-the-differenc...cond-and-24-fps

Thanks for confirming control of the Q16 via the android phone. smile.gif

Another question on the Q16. How does it hand Complex Seamless Branching with Dolby TrueHD audio that's been implemented for certain movies such as Expendables 3? Or John Wick? Can the Q16 handle this without causing audio drop outs when bit streaming Dolby TrueHD Atmos soundtrack?

Bro, do you know the different between 23.976fps and 1080p24?
Hi nicety,

Would you be kind enough to carry out the following test patterns on the HiMedia Q16 and advise they pass? I.e. the bars move slowly?

Link to the test patterns are here: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/40-oled-tech...ml#post27543473

The combined file which as all the test patterns is 144MB long.

If other owners of the HiMedia Q16 can also test their device to see if it pass the video test patterns, would appreciate it.

This and the ability to overcome Complex Seamless Branching encoded within the video are the only things outstanding that's preventing me from pulling the trigger on the Q16.smile.gif

Would like to know if you can fill an overseas order? How to do? Currently living in Hong Kong so the product is going the long way around and take the garden path route to my place. biggrin.gif

Thanks.

Edit: The display has to support the video pattern tests and not all displays do this. To check, use a known blu-ray player (such as Oppo) that does support all video formats and test on the display. If the blu-ray player with the display pass the video test patterns then the display can be used for checking the HiMedia Q16. With the HiMedia Q16 is connected to the display, use the same video test patterns does it pass?

just a quick update for those who have not gone there yet... biggrin.gif
kodi 14.2 works fine, go for it.

popcorn time 2.7 works good.

dolby atmos files pass thru, no problem (with latest q16 firmware).

AVFAN,

Can you do the video frame rate tests in post number 653?

If you're having trouble downloading the test files, please let me know and I can send you a dropbox link.

Thanks.

^ nicety,

Thank your for testing the video files.

I intend to also carry out the tests to confirm your findings. I have the Oppo BDP-93 universal blu-ray player that can play the test files and will do a comparison between the Oppo and HIMEDIA Q16 player.

nicety,

What is the largest USB 3.0 external HDD that the Q16 can support now? I'm thinking of getting the Seagate Expansion USB 3.0 8TB Desktop External Hard Drive (STDT8000100) for storing movies and tunes for playing back on the Q16.

I also note that Seagate has the 8TB 3.5" internal HDD (model number ST8000AS0002) that can be put into a docking station.

Would also like to know if the Q16 can support this large capacity HDD?

Thanks.

nicety,

Is there a way to disable the WiFi on the HIMEDIA Q16? I intend to do a direct wired connection (use the Ethernet port) to the local network switch which is wired to the router.

Is the WiFi needed for any special feature HIMEDIA Q16 that's not available via the Ethernet port?

Thanks.

nicety,

Please advise the size of the partition and how much space on the eMMC is taken up by the Android operating system (4.4 Kit kat)?

Would also like to know remaining space available for apps.

How much "working space" does an app need on the eMMC before one has to start deleting existing apps to increase the "working space".

The reason I ask this is the Q5 has half the eMMC of the Q16 and would like to know if this is sufficient.

Thanks.

Hi nicety,

Can you confirm that the HiMedia wrapper has been installed for Kodi? Would like to use Kodi as the user interface and launch the HiMedia player for videos within Kodi. This way the HD audio and 3D ISO playback can happen. My understanding is that Kodi cannot natively do so yet.

Thanks.

Bro, you have received Q16 in Hong Kong already ?

If you refer to my box, the wrapper is not installed because there is side effect to some addons if not using native Kodi player. The  Kodi that I installed  is  still using Kodi native player. To play HD audio or 3D ISO, I will recommend to use Himedia player from Media center in MG launcher.

However, the wrapper is  available in my Skydrive(APK folder), just download from my skydrive to install.

Thanks for letting me know that the wrapper is available from your SkyDrive. Will have to try it out.

A followup on the above issues. Found out the error was on my part.

Carried out a test with a new HDMI cable at the front HDMI port of the Marantz SR-7009 receiver with the Q16 and got both video + audio working now. rclxm9.gif Thanks to nicety for the trouble shooting tips and helping me - great support. thumbup.gif

Will be testing out the Q16 with the rear ports of the Marantz SR-7009 receiver and then play around with the apps to get familiar with the user interface.

Nicety,

Has HiMedia stopped producing the Q16 Quad Core 4K?
