Lumia 930 field report(Approx. 1 Year Usage)
Hiya peeps Been using my Lumia 930 together with my iPhone 5 (trust me, I would ditch the iPhone if more apps are supported on and/or available in Windows Phone). So far I'm very happy with the performance of the phone especially the camera(stills and video in 4K) as well as the very impressive 'black' screen Previously, masuk-ed kilang once because of microphone issues. Have reports from the other side of the call saying that my voice is too soft and video recordings only played sound from one side(My recording of HK Disneyland fireworks in glorious 4K was not uploaded to YouTube because of this issue Used to use the phone without any case but the back case scratch liao from the constant pulling out from my jeans back pocket so I bought a rather rugged-ish case from overseas via Ebay to use with the phone. Never had any issues with the screen though. Fell once face down onto the tarmac road. Scratched up the normal film type screen protector good but after peeling it off, the screen is scratchless. Been without a screen protector ever since. Conclusion : - Must use alongside with an iPhone or Android device if you rely heavily on apps like me. Else, its an amazingly fast and fluid phone. - Back case scratches easily. Mine is black and its no longer nice now - Screen no problem at all. Gorilla Glass 3 really stood up to its name. - Very happy with the camera. - May not be as tough as other Nokia were. Caution needed when using the phone. Absolutely DO NOT place into 'dusty' back pocket else mic WILL kaput. This post has been edited by LightningChan: Oct 3 2015, 02:25 AM |

QUOTE(LightningChan @ Oct 3 2015, 02:21 AM) Lumia 930 field report(Approx. 1 Year Usage) My experience is largely the same as yours (minus the dust in the mic situation) and I'm a very happy user of my Lumia 930 for about a year plus now.Hiya peeps Been using my Lumia 930 together with my iPhone 5 (trust me, I would ditch the iPhone if more apps are supported on and/or available in Windows Phone). Good thing my trusty little green L930 has never encountered any "unfortunate incidents". I do have a flip casing which I sometimes use to protect the screen and back, but there are times when I decide to bring my L930 out without the casing as well. My L930 has been dropped a few times on various surfaces (in the office, on the road), but no markings that I can see. Phew! I'll be in a huge dilemma when the new L950 comes out as I'll probably want to buy that, but my L930 is doing great and has never let me down. I guess we'll have to wait and see how the pricing for the L950 is going to be like. This post has been edited by rhodry: Oct 4 2015, 08:49 PM |

L930 launched in Jun 2014 until now, they have not replace or resolve the 4 mics issues. They just wait for user to send in for warranty and make the user wait one and a half months for parts to arrive.
They know the problem but don't keep parts for it. Not only in Malaysia but all over. This is how bad. |

After using it for 8+ months, my verdict on this phone is that, with the exception of the "app gap" and 1 hardware issue for me, this phone is a DAMN good phone.
1) App gap, I don't have to elaborate further as everyone knows this. This has slightly improved recently but nowhere near the reach of Apple or Google app store. For me, this remains Microsoft's Achilles heel. 2) Hardware issue I'm referring to is the "screen lifted" at one side. This issue started after about 2 months of usage. Because of this screen lifted, it has caused several issues: a) When making calls, the screen goes blank without me having to put the phone on my ear to trigger the sensor, so I have to manually press the ON button to turn on the screen again. b) the side which the screen lifted, sometimes does not respond to touch, like keyboard backspace, cannot trigger the touch due to the screen is off the touch sensor. I'm still yet to send it to SC for repair, still under warranty. Planning to get a secondary/backup phone before sending my L930 in, because I heard it takes over 1 month to repair the screen because must import from overseas. This is very bad after sales service by Microsoft. By the way, I'm planning to get an Android phone as my backup phone coz I do miss some of its apps right now but my budget is under RM500, thinking of getting Alcatel Flash 2 due to the reason it's using almost stock Android. Anyone can vouch for this AF2? 3) Aesthetically, some 3rd party apps don't look that appealing compared to its iOS or Android counterparts, like for example Whatsapp. Eg: in Android, in a group chat, each member gets his/her own color and their profile pic appears in the main chat window, whereas in Windows, everyone including urself gets the boring blue box with just the name. 3rd party developers need to put more effort in beautifying their apps for Windows platforms and put more importance just like Android or Apple store, not just to "dump their apps to Windows store just for the sake of it". Talking about OS, one of the things I love about L930 is the OS. Windows (especially 8.1) is such a beauty running on L930, and I can't wait for W10. Talk about smoothness, no lag, intuitive, simple, uncluttered, organized, awesome performance, and yes, function over form. Not to mention the awesomely beautiful camera and results produced by its lens and image/vid processor, to me is stunning. By today's standards, L930 specs are considered average, having "only" 2 GB of RAM, Adreno 330 and SD800, 2420mAh battery, 5" 1080p display, yada yada. But it performs so well at all times and gets the job done 99% of the time. I give full credits to its OS, which seems to be optimized down to every bits of given specs. Also a bonus: NO BLOATWARE! Yes! I love the fact that L930 runs on pure Windows 8.1 unlike gazillion other Android phones which is bloated and makes the UX slightly sour. It makes such a huge difference in UX whether a mobile OS is pure or adulterated. I'm already considering upgrading to L950/L950XL when they come out. It'd be great if Microsoft offered a trade-in deal for current users of Lumia. I'd gladly top up the extra cash to get L950/950XL if this deal is offered by Microsoft. Otherwise, I might have to sell my L930 first before buying the new one. Cheers! glow This post has been edited by glowinthedark: Nov 5 2015, 10:08 AM |

QUOTE(ry8128 @ Nov 4 2015, 10:31 PM) Bought a 530 for my mum, after 5 months there was a problem with the earpiece. The callers voice wont be audible at all, cant be use for making or receiving call. If 930 is still expensive ill prob just go with android next. Windows 10 isnt as unique as 8.1 |
