Hihi, I was talking with my supervisor the other day and she told me to manage my time properly so that I can finish my studies on time. I'm currently taking MPhil (Accounting). Also, she advised that consistency is very important.

I'm actually a part time student (full-time working as a lecturer for the pre-uni department in the uni...teaching hours is 20 hours per week). Anyone of you here is actually taking PhD/MPhil on a part time basis? How do you ensure that you will always be consistent in your study?

For e.g in my case, when I have 4-6 hours of class per day, normally when I got back home, I will be too tired to touch anything on research already cry.gif How do you motivate yourself to get up and get it done? icon_question.gif

Early thanks for sharing advise/experience. icon_rolleyes.gif
I need to learn from my fellow seniors here. notworthy.gif

Anyway, I thought you said earlier you are given only 8 teaching hours per week?

For a win-win situation, perhaps you can consider giving research-oriented assignments to your students. Each group of students will get a different topic but still within your research theme. This way you can also train your students to perform constructive literature reviews. icon_idea.gif

You can pass the data collection to your students as assignments to perform statistical calculations. icon_idea.gif

Yea, thought bout that before, but i am not teaching statistics zzz. The maths im currently teaching is mostly on algebra, log, probability...boring stuffs that has nothing to do with my research. But your idea is good though nod.gif

Which stage are you now?

Have you developed your theoretical framework yet?

mycolumn,

Do you teach 7 days per week?? If not, you could either

A) Do research on the days that you do not teach

or,

B) Do research on weekend.

Just pick a time slot for the week and stick to it.

Hi Dreamer,

I teach 5 hours per week. Yea, I do actually do research on weekends, but it doesn't seem enough. sweat.gif
I tried to do on weekdays, but a whole day teaching took so much energy to the point that when I went back home, all I wanna do is just rest, relax and sleep doh.gif

Do you feel lonely?

Ah! Don't get me wrong. I'm just wondering most companies are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Perhaps you should visit Ti-Ratana to find out more about corporate social responsibility. icon_idea.gif

During data collection, I used the time to write two papers and also brushing up on the past chapters smile.gif

Good planning! Since you have set 30/Apr as the deadline for data collection, I suppose by 21/Apr, the percentage of data collection will be around 75%. And by 28/Apr, it will be near 100% completion of data collection. You can probably analyzing the data before 30/Apr, after housekeeping your data. happy.gif

We're in the same boat.
I'm teaching Diploma students and at the same time, I'm doing Master by research part time. Been doing this for almost 2 years now.
During the day, I work as normal. But at night, I do research. Or sometime during my free time during the day, I will curi-curi masa do research hahaha!
Quite tired, but challenging & pushing you to the limit on how you manage your time plus with spending time with family & etc.

I believe we can do it if we put our minds to it + discipline & perseverance. thumbup.gif
