Hihi, I was talking with my supervisor the other day and she told me to manage my time properly so that I can finish my studies on time. I'm currently taking MPhil (Accounting). Also, she advised that consistency is very important. I'm actually a part time student (full-time working as a lecturer for the pre-uni department in the uni...teaching hours is 20 hours per week). Anyone of you here is actually taking PhD/MPhil on a part time basis? How do you ensure that you will always be consistent in your study? For e.g in my case, when I have 4-6 hours of class per day, normally when I got back home, I will be too tired to touch anything on research already How do you motivate yourself to get up and get it done? Early thanks for sharing advise/experience. I need to learn from my fellow seniors here.

QUOTE(Blofeld @ Apr 4 2014, 05:12 PM) That's why I go full time Anyway, I thought you said earlier you are given only 8 teaching hours per week? minimum 8, maximum 16. (If add consultation...will be 22 hours) This sem i am given 10, next sem 16 hours I can't go full time~~~ no one support...so I cannot pay undergraduate study loan, car loan... QUOTE(Critical_Fallacy @ Apr 4 2014, 10:32 PM) For a win-win situation, perhaps you can consider giving research-oriented assignments to your students. Each group of students will get a different topic but still within your research theme. This way you can also train your students to perform constructive literature reviews. Hmm, im teaching mathematics, and my research area is corporate social responsibility. It doesnt match huhu

QUOTE(Critical_Fallacy @ Apr 4 2014, 11:11 PM) You can pass the data collection to your students as assignments to perform statistical calculations. Yea, thought bout that before, but i am not teaching statistics zzz. The maths im currently teaching is mostly on algebra, log, probability...boring stuffs that has nothing to do with my research. But your idea is good though

QUOTE(Blofeld @ Apr 5 2014, 10:23 PM) Which stage are you now? Have you developed your theoretical framework yet? now im doing my data collection. But even during data collection, also need to do write-ups right? If no, later last minute, bertungkus-lumus wanna write a whole thesis Edit: Yups, I have my theoretical framework already. Any ideas on how you manage time during this stage? This post has been edited by mycolumn: Apr 11 2014, 10:14 PM

QUOTE(dreamer101 @ Apr 5 2014, 10:32 PM) mycolumn, Do you teach 7 days per week?? If not, you could either A) Do research on the days that you do not teach or, B) Do research on weekend. Just pick a time slot for the week and stick to it. Dreamer Hi Dreamer, I teach 5 hours per week. Yea, I do actually do research on weekends, but it doesn't seem enough. I tried to do on weekdays, but a whole day teaching took so much energy to the point that when I went back home, all I wanna do is just rest, relax and sleep

QUOTE(Zaryl @ Apr 14 2014, 12:04 PM) We're in the same boat. I'm teaching Diploma students and at the same time, I'm doing Master by research part time. Been doing this for almost 2 years now. During the day, I work as normal. But at night, I do research. Or sometime during my free time during the day, I will curi-curi masa do research hahaha! Quite tired, but challenging & pushing you to the limit on how you manage your time plus with spending time with family & etc. I believe we can do it if we put our minds to it + discipline & perseverance. wow, good to know that there is someone who has had the same experience as I am. How many hours are you teaching per week? This post has been edited by mycolumn: Apr 14 2014, 12:38 PM
