egg yolk is fine...just don't overfeed....

daphnia is called "sui qi"(cantonese)....i have tried asking around 5 years ago and only found 1 guy who actually trespasses IndahWater pond to catch daphnia...that guy's shop cum house is located in Sungei Way in the depths of SS1....apparently a few years back, a fellow betta enthusiast told me that he opened(moved) a shop near Bintang supermarket...so i m not so sure...have to wait for current betta breeders to tell u where u can get daphnia.

fighting fish fight...thats y they are generally known as fighting fish....try googling "methods of breeding bettas" coz it would take a long time for me to explain tongue.gif

In a nutshell, males will attack the females or vice versa in the mating process...in order to succeed, the male and female has to be "ready" to breed or else you will end up with a dead betta..

take a photo of ur betta flaring either at his reflection/another betta....because halfmoons are judged based on the shape of their tails

4 bucks per kilo?? how would that work?

10 bux is alrite...

rm10 then from that look it might be delta or superdelta...

ynneb who r u anyway?

last time i heard of few betta breeder also in PJ,david(subang jaya),Foo(PJ),then if not mistaken theres 1 red halfmoon breeder chua issit from melaka..he got a house turn to farm..then penang got another chua if not mistaken..johor i know 1 of them but forgotten call what name already..he give his betta for free to anyone who wanna breed them.. doh.gif
*
I dont think ppl know me coz i did not join the society back in the days as i did not see it necessary to join as it was just a hobby and i did not want to commit to anything since i was only a form 5 student. I believe i started Foo(i hope we r talking about the same Foo tongue.gif) off by giving him a bunch of my (crappy) bettas for him to breed when he was just form 3 if i m not mistaken smile.gif. I am also the one who got the controversial Simon (old fatty tongue.gif) to get the ball rolling by giving him my whole batch of bettas as i was quitting the hobby at that time.

I have heard of the breeder in melaka..quite famous...also heard of david...breeder with high end equipment as Simon told me once..i only "know" 2 ppl in penang...that is sifu sim and haur doh.gif and i guess the rest of my contacts have stopped this hobby since i have not heard from them...

btw do u know Peter from Klang? is he still active? he used to transport bettas from thailand for me...wondering if he can still do it tongue.gif

And can i put them in just a small aquarium? Do i need to pump the water?

it depends wut normal fish food you are referring to...if it is pellets it should be fine...you can put them in a small aquarium...no need to pump anything...bettas do not like water currents

I've bought a smaller container and removed my betta from my 2 feet aquarium. Now i can take photo with it much easier.... so mine is superdelta betta or halfmoon betta?

The first pic is taken when there's not enough room light and the 2nd pic is taken with a small emergency light turned on next to the container.

I've also bought a female.... they seem to start curling each other already. need to ask you experts what should i do next when i see eggs on the surface? Remove the female?

Thx.

looks to me like a superdelta....you only remove the female when she is done laying eggs....

after eggs hatched when should i start feeding? when they fries up n down up n down(fries drop down from nest after hatched) ? or when they floating around?

i try to ask lfs and they give me a frozen larve, i don't think fries ate it coz they died
*
fries look like tiny fish...they do not float around or drop from the nest...they normally swim around. If you do not see any tiny fish, then the eggs have not hatched.

oh btw....newly hatched frys are not capable of eating daphnias as they are still too small....they feed on infusoria....you can culture it...try googling it thumbup.gif

daphnia live on algae,so need green water(contain infusoria also)..u can make your own green water by using pelleted chicken manure..then when the water is ful with algae..some ppl use brewers yeast with about 25 frozen peas, several spinach leaves, a tablespoon of sweet potato baby food to feed them..but im not sure will this work anot..

but some other ppl will throw in lotsa shit inside to make the green water..most important is those green water..I even read about some breeder went hunt their own daphnia in the "tahi logi" then they clean it themself..the water in tahi logi is food for dahpnia  drool.gif
*
hmm...i remember trying green water as well..in the end the water started clouding and thickening like starch and they ended up all dying...dunno wut went wrong then unsure.gif

QUOTE(cirebonbetta @ Feb 12 2008, 04:50 PM)
Hello everyone. I'm new here. Glad to see a lot of ppl actually love bettas and care for them!! We need more ppl like this especially with the knowledge and interest to jaga bettas workin in pet shops. I got damn angry seeing how bettas are kept in commercial pet shops... you know what I'm talkin about la... >.>

Anyways, I've been reading up somewhat about betta... and I heard from some breeder that the algae or izzit the daphnia (that lives on algae) eats the betta punya shit.... which is good.

1-So the question is... maybe this sounds dumb but izzit safe to keep the betta + algae together in an aquarium? Cuz I takut the water become lagi dirty, then the betta fall sick. So it's safe to assume that the betta eats the daphnia that lives on the algae and the algae eats the shit of the betta? Like 1 cycle liddat.

2-Izzit can use tap water *without anti-chlorine* as aquarium water?

3-And does anyone knows where to find ketapang tree in PJ??

4-Any good recommendations on buying betta live foods such as larvae, white worms, bloodworms, brine shrimp, dapnia from any shop? Got any shop sell kah? Can culture sendiri oso I know but then have to monitor closely lo... if not eg: larvae will jadik mosquito then damn syiok my house nanti.

5-I'm also looking for bettas particularly HM/ DT/Rosetail; multicolour, butterly or marble....transparent oso nice. Better if it's from a breeder or owner and not a pet shop.... Send me a picture. XD

Thanks for all the help yeah. wink.gif
*
never a good idea to keep algae with any fish. You must use anti-chlorine with normal tap water. There are 2 distinct places where u can get ketapang leaves in PJ, 1 outside old Cheow Yang coffeeshop and 1 around Section 17 Shell petrol station (near the bus station). It is not a good idea to keep mosquito larvae...If the town council ppl find out that you are cultivating mosquitoes, they will fine you. Thats all i can help you with smile.gif whistling.gif

Thanks so much, ynneb25 and inv!! XDD Damn fast you guys reply!! LOLOL! For your info, I've reared a betta before but unfortunately it died. So I wanna keep 1 again... I notchet buy la but I wanna prepare a home + makanan for the betta 1st before I keep it. So that everything will be in order.

Although I baca some info... but I memang n00b la. Hahaha. XD

ynneb25>

1. If I use rain water instead of tap water oso can right? Even if it's aciditic... I read the pH level oni at 5 liddat... bettas usually prefer pH 6-7, right? T_T

2. As for the ketapang leaves. Haha. Thank you yeah!! XD Will go check them out soon.

3. If I still wanna feed my betta mosquito larvae how? Got shop sell kah? T_T Tak mungkin right.... nanti kena saman.

Btw, your name is Benny izzit? XD

inv>
Thanks for the links ya. biggrin.gif Have you visited this site?? http://www.plakatthai.com/ I think it's one of my fav betta sites. X3 Just sharing ya. I feel like ordering from there but.... dunno how the fish looks like and the site macam mati adi. T__T

****

-Is it safe to assume that bettas fit well with all types of fresh water aquatic plants? And that when we plant the plants together, they won't kacau each other? Like fight for sunlight/etc? Maybe I'm mixing them up with plants on land... O_o I just know that the plants' leaves or ornaments mustn't be too sharp la or else the betta fin can koyak wan.

-As for the gravel and sand for the bottom, anything oso can right?? X3
*
Yes, my name is Benny....don't think its advisable to use rain water as it contains all sorts of dirt(try collecting rain water and let it settle for a day or 2, you will know what i mean...there will be a thick black layer of dirt at the bottom) I have not seen shops selling mosquito larvae...if you want to focus on show quality bettas, i would recommend you to keep it as simple as possible...if you want to plant plants, then you will have to focus on something like a planted tank(which costs a bomb) in order for the plant to grow...

my betta keep on dying..expensive betta from Thai I bought all die 1 by 1 cause by fin rot..

tried ageing the water also same..so better stop..maybe its due to the water in my area..not very sure..haha
*
dont blame the water in your area tongue.gif rclxm9.gif j/k j/k...
i used to "give" my bettas fin rot also on a regular basis!! changed the way i aged water....i used to keep the indian almond leaf in the aged water...and apparently, you are not supposed to soak the leaf too long as it will start to become mouldy(grow fungus).
