OK, so here's the deal.

I went for my Sinus Surgery last 2 weeks at Assunta Hospital under Dr. Lim Wye Keat.

Here's what happened to me:

- A surgery of 2 hrs took 4 hrs
- Extra 2 hrs was for trying to go into my right nose to clear the mucus and other stuffs from my right nose BUT FAILED (due to unknown reasons - Dr said, he was unable to go inside my right side of the nose)
- During the first 3 checkups (which were within the 2 weeks of MC I was given), he kept asking me if I feel headache on right side (which should be happening soon since now right side is imbalance with mucus inside) but I don't feel pain
- On Saturday evening to night, the pain suddenly started on my right side and I believe it could be the one that he mentioned. I feel numbness below and above my eyes near my nose.
- Dr said if pain comes, he will do a 2nd surgery for this.

My question here is, should I do a 2nd surgery?

I feel you should go for a second opinion, since the first one already a bit complicated.

Its not cheap for consultation and still better than just going in blindly and taking your doctor's word for word.

Good luck.

Yups, wearing specs. He is based mostly at Assunta Hospital.
Very famous dude yo. Every time I go for my check up, I need to wait for a long queue.

Is sinus surgery worth it?
Did consider it long ago but never really go for it.
I use to have serious sinus during my childhood
Around mid 20 I start jogging and running alot, and the symptom seems to reduce, only gotten sick if the weather is really bad, otherwise I don't encounter any sinus at all. Did read up that by inhaling a lot of oxygen during running or work out, it helps the air flow and keep the nose moist.

Yeah, I know about that but some sinus problems are mainly caused by:

1) Inflamed inner part of the nostril passage making it hard to breath (most research and my Dr said that the passage inflammation MIGHT reduce if the air around us is 100% clean and dust free but it's not so possible)

2) Mucus accumulation inside the sinus passages of the face, mainly behind and around the eyes. Most serious cases will be having headaches around the eyes and may be either acute or continuous.

I was having both and because I had a history of Allergic Rhinitis. From child time till now, nearing 30, still sneeze a lot sometimes. However, the headache and blockages started worsening causing me to have sleep apnea (trouble going into deep sleep due to difficulty in breathing in the midst of sleep).

So I decided that it's a DO or DIE situation as if I don't do it, I might not be in good health as I can't sleep well. Imagine sleeping at 12am and waking up around 7am next morning feeling like you didn't really sleep.

There's a long queue because his fees are low. Try dr koay from Sunday which costs quite a lot yet u need to make his booking in advance.

I had my nose done by lim fm assunta and it was a nightmare. I had to be put down under to perform the surgery and it was done badly. Had to go to another ENT who performed the surgery again WITHOUT me being put downunder and till everything went well.
There's another ENT thread in here with quite a number of pages and no, dr lim was never mentioned. He's just cheap and poor with his skills.

Perhaps if you had visited another ENT you might not need a second surgery.

I had my sinus removed ten years ago and it was kinda worth it. The operation itself wasn't the issue, it's just the recovery period that's a pain in the S. Before then I am always sick due to sinus inflammation but after removing it, I get to sleep in peace

hi,

i had sinus surgery (deviated septum, which is blockage in my left nose causing me to breathe only through right nose) which cost me rm 10k, 90 percent of which is covered by insurance. sinus is 50 percent medication and 50 percent environment management, so find out what triggers your sinus and control your environment. in my case, im allergic to dust mites, so i use ioniser in my bedroom. in the morning, i scrap the phlegms out of my tongue.

lately i am using aerius -D (which is different from aerius) that cost about rm 5 a pill. works fine so far. you should try different oral meds until u find one that suits for u. regarding sinus surgery, it is not a cure due to your allergen always around you.

at the moment, i am based in penang and KL, so finding clinics in KL that offers aerius-D is a problem since i got my meds from a clinic in penang.

Me and my cousin both have Sinus problems. He took Sinus surgery before but it came back in less than a years time. Me too have sinus,as bad as I need to prepare tissue for most of the time. Last year I went to Chinese medication , and I was advised to stop eating chicken. So I did not had any medicine nor surgery , just stop eating chicken since last year. Now I rarely encounter any Sinus problem like I had before (touch wood ),but sometimes still happen, may be only once every half month. So guys if you can give up chicken for a week,it worth a try to see if there is any improvement. At least it worked for me.

So far no problem even going for a swim. Before removing it, been suffering most of the time, swimming alone will cause nose blockage. Was very sensitive to dust and my sinus get affected a lot but for more than ten years it's been fine.

ic, my usually affected by weather, temperature and fried food or heaty food like lamb, when i accumulated a measurable amount of heat i will go sorethroat, then sinus, then fever, very troublesome as it cost me a week or 2 to recover.

Hi,
Just some experience with Dr Lim from Assunta.

My fiancee had a swollen lymph node and went to Dr Lim for consultation. He had her do a few tests (Allergy/TB/Lymphoma) but proved inconclusive and came to the conclusion that he needed to remove the node. He wanted to do this even without fully knowing what problem she had. I decided that we should go for a second opinion. When we went for a second opinion, turns out she had a tumor at the back of her nose and that it was cancerous. I do not even want to imagine what would have happened had Dr Lim attempted to remove the node.

This is just my experience with Dr Lim and your experience might be more pleasant than mine. The point I'm trying to make her is that you should seek a second opinion.

Just FYI, my fiancee has sinusitis due to radio therapy treatment and we're planning on going for a PET/CT scan (as per her Oncologist's request) and use that scan for our current ENT to determine if she needs surgery.

Hi,

Just to share experience on our encounter with Dr. Lim. Personal opinion based on first encounter is "I will never visit this ENT specialist anymore". Thank God that my instinct is correct. We went to seek second opinion before doing anything that Dr. Lim has recommended. Otherwise, I feel his suggestion will deteriorate the patient health further.
