QUOTE(yhlee12 @ Mar 31 2014, 01:16 AM) bro, buy for me was 7% of the order (prime).. my package shipping was about 40+ USD.. all in all less than 500 so didn't kena tax Hi bro, could you share what is the dimensional weight for USD 40+ of shipping fee using hop shop go prime? as I wish to compare it to the forwarder i'm using, usually I bought from US using myushehe... that's one option.. wanna speculate pricing? well there's always a way.. whether worth it or not only.. my attempt was rather experimental depending on the shipping charges, sometimes it ends up cheaper than retail. take my purchase for example, all boxes >10% off retail, and the bonus is to pick up martian along the way (worth erm... 60-65?) the box they used to put my order, there's just so much space in it.. if they use a smaller box, the savings will be greater but these are probably standard sized so nothing much can be done.. if it does cross kena tax, DHL will help pay that 10% tax first.. from the customer service reply that i got seems like they don't charge additional handling charges.. nice haul! we share the same wish list.. haha |

Hello everyone, reporting in! Just came back from a week of seminar in Hong Kong... I know what you're thinking, Lego shopping!!
I didn't get anything other than a Lego Woody alarm clock that I had wanted for so long to go together with Buzz... Generally it is a very interesting place especially In's Place where you can find lots of discontinued sets. I saw a 10189 Taj Mahal going for HK$14000! Prices are generally cheap but not cheap enough to get me to forget about the hassle of hauling the big boxes through the busy streets of Hong Kong and back to Malaysia... So after checking out most of the stores that were opened and controlling my urges to buy I ended up buying nothing. I'm quite surprised that the prices are "fixed", maybe I'm just not very good at bargaining but every store I go to they just tell me price is fixed and non-negotiable so that really put me off finding good deals for certain sets... I hear others having a great time shopping in Hong Kong so either I'm looking at the wrong places or just a terrible shopper. Anyway, yesterday was at Bangsar Village and my daughter spotted a Lego truck parked by the road kerb outside Coffee Bean. So we checked it out and it is called "The Mobile Lego City". Inside the truck is a built up Lego Police Station on Display, a Lego City game on iPad and a pile of bricks for the kids to do their MOC. From what I understand, they are out to create their own customer database so first thing you have to do is to fill up the registration form provided before being allowed into the truck. The kids are given a postcard sized card with 5 boxes to be stamped after they go through each event station. So first station is the Police Station display, you play with it for a bit and gets a stamp. Next is the iPad game, another stamp. Then comes the MOC, create something and get another stamp. Take your MOC down to the booth to have a photo taken and printed on the spot, another stamp. Once all done, you get a RM10 shopping voucher. Sorry I didn't take any photos of the truck and the inside of the truck. Here are photos of the flyer to tell you when they will be next and the RM10 voucher I received: |

QUOTE(wintzen @ Mar 31 2014, 12:51 PM) Was tempted to follow my wife to HK too as she is there for training about 3-4 days...and I thought can follow go makan makan and look see look see Lego. But paying 1K for an airfare is just abit too much since I'm probably going to walk on my own....can't eat good food with her. So in the end, decided to stay at home to look after the kids. However, requested my friend to get a set for me and pass it to my wife...hopefully he can get it. Was a very good cuci mata experience and I don't mind going back there again for a look see. I think you have to make multiple trips there to spot something as really there are lots of hidden gems there and you definitely cannot take it all in one go... Store display is non-existent as space is a constrain so they stuff their sets into every possible nook and cranny available, one store in particular the sets are stacked till you can't even walk into the shop! The shopkeeper just stand at the shop door and take your inquiries. This shop is quite popular with Singaporeans and Malaysians, while I was there can tell from their slang. And the shop keeper so busy packing sets into boxes for them. Can't remember name of the shop but the guy's name is Kenson. (first shop you see on the first floor escalator landing)QUOTE(yhlee12 @ Mar 31 2014, 02:35 PM) hey bro.. my box dimension was 14 x 12.5 x 7.5 (in).. shipping weight was 4.5kg You're welcome. thanks for sharing the fact that they appear in bangsar, opening shop in bangsar, etc.. really kinda show which customer group that they are targeting isn't it They're not just targetting the rich la... Can see in their flyer they also going to Setapak and Bandar Utama... Just so happen I chance upon it at Bangsar... |
