FWD cars how to drift leh???
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drifting_(motorsport)
Pls read ohmy.gif

On the topic of ABS lights, when will it come on?

when the sensors at each wheel is faulty/dirty, when u got not enough brake fluid, when the main module is jammed....
it will not light up if u jam brake, only shrudders (correct spelling ahh) will be felt...

No, that's just skidding, the idea of drifting is to just lose control of the rear and gain control by controlling the front whereas FWD or AWD will go for it at all 4 wheels and cause you to lose control badly. AWD can regain control since got rear wheel power also.

Guys & Gals,

The GEN2 car brakes is rather "soft" so as not to cause wheel lock ...thus....SKIDDING. And the brake pads...BOSCH .. has lots of dust which causes the wheel to be dirty quickly. So there is nothing much that can be done with the OEM braking system. shakehead.gif shakehead.gif

I was rather disappointed with the OEM brakes as they does not stop fast and the brakes becomes "spongy" when push hard. So after checking around...HOPE the following is of use.

If there is a need to "Upgrade" then suggest that the following be done in stages:-

a) Pads ...... Use metallic pads from other manufactures. BOSCH pads are "soft" types. Brands like "FORODO", "Delco", Bendix","EBC", etc. are good.
b) Brake Hose & brake fluid. ..... Use "Stainless Braided Hose" like Pro RS with DOT4 brake fluid.DOT5.1 Not recommended as it is rather corrosive to the rubber seals in the brake system.
c) Brake Pump .... Upgrade to a BIGGER brake pump.
d) Clippers ( Big Lump which houses the Brake Pads ).... MAJOR Upgrade to better clippers like "ENDLESS", " VTTR", "BREMBO", etc. with matching Brake pads.
e) Brake disk rotor...... MAJOR upgrade. See matching disk rotor to the clippers. PS:- Slotted disk are for serious TRACK use which ONLY last a few races. Need to be constantly check as they then to crack !!!! Nice to see though.

IMO the stages a) and b) is sufficient if you travel in town and at H\ways. cool.gif

If for high speed ....... then c) is required. thumbup.gif

For Track then d) and e) is also required... icon_rolleyes.gif

Hope this helps. OEM pads...BOSCH .. cost about RM 180/= for the front pair. Check for equivalent like FORODO, MINTEX, Delco, EBC which cost slightly more. Surely money well spend.

Of course...your TYRES are also important... Another major tropic !!! rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

i think it would be advisable to just do the pads and fluid, maybe the hoses too...
but for the calipers and disc... i am not too keen on the mods

why?
its because cars like the gen2 uses a full bosch system. mixing and matching it may cause more harm than good if not done correctly, the brake balance of the car may be too much in front if u use a two pot with a wrong setup. moreover... HL models with ABS and the sensors may also choose to give problems.

changing the brake pump..... how big u want them to be, what is the maximum pressure our stock lines (not the brake hoses or raided hoses) can take?

however, some companies (forgot which company la) have came out with caliper and disc upgrades for the gen2 which are quite good... these will not disturb the brake balance although its a two pot system in front....

juz go to a secluded and safe area with no cars or people and juz hit ur brakes hard and lock ur tyres.. u will notice a subtle pumping of ur brakes.. that's ur ABS working it's magic.. but the Perdana V6 has a more hard pumping feel of the ABS compared to the Gen-2..

very true.. gen-2 brakes are rather spongy.. but i didn't notice the ABS light blinking or turning on compared to the Perdana V6 (maybe it's juz my car).. btw, for me, gen-2s are easy to let go of its rear end if u yank the handbrake and it's easy to recover too compared to other FWD cars.. enjoyed some 90degree and U-turns with mine.. biggrin.gif

p/s: since it's givin me so much probs, why not create more.. whistling.gif

Hmmm, is it possible to change a G2's existing braking system with that of an ABS-enabled one? But this will obviously mean a huge investment as well as lots of work right?

dont think its possible to add on ABS, but not too sure though... but a few years back there was a mechanical vertions called ABS stopper, dunno now still have or not.
but guys....
i belive the brakes are not too bad compared to many cars, trust me, have driven quite a few cars in the same segment...

if u guys really want to improve.... i suggest u get better brake pads like ferodo (spelling correct ahh) and if got the $$ EBC black or green stuff (but green got to warm up before its effective) , and also do brake bleeding often (errr.... i do it when i fell the brakes a bit spongy lah... sometimes after braking hard a few times already can feel spongy),
and then maybe steel braided hoses, but i guess this is an advanced upgrade...

for brake fluid, i personally use dot 5.1, some ppl may say that it will corrode the brake lines, corrotion is due to moisture and air in the lines, so if u do bleeding often enuf like me, this should not be an issue...
BTW, originally the gen2 uses dot4
