    c. PCB
    d. leg stand
    e. screws

LED memang stronk on the Zero Shine. Keycap also quite thin, but it's white so you can actually see the colours. Also, I maxed out the LED strength.

As for the EXE, how do I order? Does the seller understand/deal with English? biggrin.gif

We need more custom. Exe is a good starting point. Time to upgrade from Filco, Ducky, Deck, Logitech, or Razer.

Usually use my keyboard for gaming purpose and use it as a keyboard warrior weapon occasionally.

I like the feeling and the annoying noise made by MX Blue biggrin.gif But I see a lot of "gaming mechanical keyboard" uses MX Red rclxub.gif

Read and done several research dy laugh.gif
Currently eyeing on Ducky Shine 3 but the price is kinda expensive (for 1st timer)
Took at look at Corsair K95 but its using MX Red and not a lot of people here seem to talk about it, kinda makes me wonder about its reliability.

Actually reddit has a great guide for making custom caps.

Basically, you cut off a donor cap and just retain the stem structure, then you stick it with epoxy.

Correction, it's actually banggood, not taobao. USD 60 for each keyboard, but both are MX blacks, which I have yet to test extensively.

You need to do sanding first... otherwise the paint won't stick. Sand once with coarse grit, then once with medium and once with fine grit.

Then you need to spray the base coat, then the main coat x3 and then the clear coat finish.

Total time spend is about one sunny day if you know what you're doing.

Got from Geekhack. Some dude in SG so it'll come up to about RM800 for a semi-new board.

I haven't PMed him confirmation though.

Just waiting for my other funds to come through first. Don't like running around with too little cash.

Actually, you need the fine scratches for the spray paint to stick on. Deswai you must sand it.

You can use the ones for plastic (any hardware store should have) and get 3-4 bottles. One bottle is base coat (most likely white) then 1 or 2 bottles of the desired colour, and lastly the clear coat on top (gloss or matte, up to you). Total cost for spray is about RM5-6 per can.

Sandpaper costs about the same per piece, and you'd want 2 of each of the three grits.

In the end, new colour for keyboard maybe cost you around RM50?

But the satisfaction of having done a completely DIY kit is priceless.

Won't see the scratches if you did the base layer correctly. The surface in the end will depend on your last clear coat (aka finishing coat). Some people recommend that you make multiple layers of the final coat instead to ensure a consistent texture.

So, sanding = make the surface abraded so that the paint stick.

Foundation aka first coat = make things white so that you main coat is visible.

Main coat = this is where your colour comes from. Multiple layers until happy with colour.

Top coat aka finishing coat aka clear coat = texture when you touch touch.

Since you need to dry dry a bit between coats, doing it on a sunny day is the best.

both abs and pbt keycaps can have textured (a bit rough or sandy) surface or smooth surface.
just that for textured surface, abs will be smooth-en easily through extensive use.
whereas pbt takes a very very very long time to reach that stage.

I like to watch more than play.

Long ago I decided that I would learn enough doto to understand "The Play" and then it escalated out of hand. Lately on a b****ing losing streak (win one lose five) until I emo. So now I just watch a lot. On my 40" TV in my room.

Hi all mechanical kb pros,

Im looking for a new home use mechanical keyboard but really unsure which I should get.

Usage:
I often mistype
Like the clicky sound
Dont play much game (only dota2 atm)
home use

After reading page 1 (difference of switches), the black 1 should be suitable for me?

Please advise.

Need to know:
what colour switch is suitable for me
What brand
Price range (prefer cheaper range/best bang for bucks)

Get MX blue. Clicky is better because you won't accidentally miss the button press. I use Blues for doto gaming at home.

Black is for heavy handed people who wants to play FPS. I'm getting one for testing purpose anyway.

Price range should be below RM 300, you can get a cheap Rosewill (costar stabs FTW).

Then slowly poison to the next level.

You might consider brown if you want to double tap often thou cool2.gif
But is very situational towards the person using it.

<<often mistype>>
You may choose choices below. Of course, it will not mistype-proof when you use mkb. The switches will let you know immediately if you mistype.
MX Brown, MX Clear<-- Tactile feedback, you may know immediately if you mistype
MX Blue, MX Green <-- Tactile feedback + clicky sound

<<often mistype>>
You may choose choices below. Of course, it will not mistype-proof when you use mkb. The switches will let you know immediately if you mistype.
MX Brown, MX Clear<-- Tactile feedback, you may know immediately if you mistype
MX Blue, MX Green <-- Tactile feedback + clicky sound

MX Blue or MX Green

Hi thanks every1 for the input.

@quovadis123 - What is tactile feedback? I know mkb doesnt guarantee mistypeprood. But would MX Blue or Green, somehow effective in reducing double clicking error/mistype?

Im sorry for my 1st post stating just mistype, to be exact, I often click "doubnle" button at the same time.

the word "double" above is an example where i clicked "b" and "n" at the same time

tactile feedback is like a soft bump u feel on your finger when u press down the key. cheap membrane keyboards doesnt have that. what quovadis123 is saying is that the MX Blue/Green key will have that tactile feedback when u press the key, which lets u confirm the keystroke.

pressing two keys at a time, u must have really thick fingers! just kidding.. mechanical keyboards have really spaced keys and that should be able to help with your "condition"

blue/ brown switch is actually good for doto and fps?? O_O im always wondering if the switch can double tap easily or cn be hold down long enough
*
Blues not good for FPS. Browns maybe okok.

FPS and Doto use different keyboard. Doto prefers clicky and precision, while FPS is mostly about twitchy reactions, so linear switches are best here.

Multitapping a switch... I think linear is better. I haven't tried any linear switches yet, so gonna wait 2-3 weeks for my banggood keyboard. After conversion and calculations, pretty much same price as getting from taobao.

Blues will help a lot with that, or getting blacks will. In the end, depends on whether you doto more or FPS more. Doto is blues, FPS is blacks for your case.

I heard typing with blacks is high fatigue, but I haven't tried personally.

Linear MX Cherry Switches (Red, Black)
- Linear switches have the simplest operation, moving straight up and down without any additional tactile feedback or loud clicking noise.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Tactile MX Cherry Switches (Brown, Clear, Blue, Green)
Tactile - As you press the key down, there is a noticeable bump which lets you know that your key press has been registered.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

If you looks carefully in the Tactile MX Cherry Switches pictures above, you will notice the copper slider will move twice.
Simple explanation is, you press down the key to registering point, the key let you know you already pressed him by some bump feedback. laugh.gif

<<But would MX Blue or Green, somehow effective in reducing double clicking error/mistype?>>
By experience, somehow it will helps. But, the real problem lies on your typing method or habits.

What's that got to do with Race?

It is tons easier to ship something domestic in the US than to ship it international.
So many shitty forms to fill up, and then you have to queue at the post office and stare at the post office clerk, who sometimes muka masam 1.

For domestic, just weigh, box, paste the shipping label, and drop it in the USPS by the corner of the store, few hundred meters away.

Kalau kat Malaysia, same same, either fill the PoLaju form, or the Pos International form, paste, weigh, pay and jalan. It is the same amount of trouble for us. Sometimes, queue for Pos Laju is longer than the International Parcel, if you go to a big Post Office.

I think our definitions of clutter is different.

I only has sofa, tv & coffee table in my living room area. Anything else goes elsewhere. Living room is for people to chill one, ok? Not do project.

If you have shipped stuff in the US, you will realize how much easier it is, to ship it domestic rather than international.
Domestic, like I said, you can either ship it by USPS pickup, drop it in a USPS bin nearby your house, Or you can go to the post office at night and use the 24hour self service machine to ship it.

If you want to ship international, it must be during office hours. If you started working, you'll start to realize how much of a hassle it is to head to the post office to ship something.

During intern period I have to sacrifice a bit of lunch time to go out and post. It's about business, if spend a little more effort then deal faster.
We pos laju doesn't offer pick up for individual, nor the drop-bins. Many of us in Malaysia still do no problem.

Well, they are lived in that way, couldn't blame them when intl is a little hassles than domestic.

Sorry for off-topic. For brand new I am guessing all also cheaper here than from Taobao, because the ATH-M50x is also cheaper by 100+ here.  sad.gif

Sorry those too far from what I'm looking for, just want over-ear closed back for casual listening(with a RM400 budget) but before buying I already allowed myself to drift as far as those 2 I mentioned(which cost around 700 to 800 each). Any further than that my bank account tak mampu muntah keluar.

But I'm assuming hooh888 has budget for a pair of cans only right? Or are you gonna get amps as well? If not I think the M50X in that color you like would be just nice. Very easy to drive so you can plug it anywhere. Not sure about MS2 though.

Yeah just cans, and only for casual listening so I actually don't want to spend that much but that blue and brown combination is DELICIOUS, as for the Custom One Pro's the tuneable bass port is really a plus. And no MS2, because I don't like both open back and on-ear.

I know this is out topic. But, just sharing some info since you guys mentioned about cheap and expensive headphone:
http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-DT-990-...s/dp/B0011UB9CQ

About RM525 with the help of cher:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2400293

Often compared with legendary HD600. Some will say HD600 better and vice versa. Senn HD600 owner, don't have plan to upgrade anymore.

For more comparison, refer this:

I know. It would be much better without the fonts. But man those symbols bring back so much memories.

If i can find the makers of these maybe there is a symbol only key cap which I can get.

From the jp layout,
Seems it can changed from 1.25x, 1.25x, 1.25x to 1.25x,1x,1.25x only in left modifiers.
But macam can make like hhkb modifiers layout by removing the left control, and make it 0, 1x,1.5x

Need to make sure that seller has credit card verified, else u will cause him trouble for proceeding lot of verifications for his taobao account.
In the end He/She might refuse to deal with you and leave u a bad comment.

that filco doesn't have off centred caps lock.
all i see is one static lubang.

so, it might not be quite a good idea to change filco layout and later your tsangan can't use stepped capslock, which is one of the biggest attraction of going down the path of tsangan, at least for me tongue.gif

otd is by korean, so most likely the gb being organized in otd forum only.
only a few users bought the otd kb from korean members that are willing to let go.

otd will only limited to korean, and some friends.
it will be a dream if OTD gb is available in worldwide forum.

take for example, OTD WYSE DSA. brows.gif

We lack the economies of scale.

Think about it, how many people are going to go for customs anyway?

Also, pulled the trigger on the banggod MX black and a Realforce. No more buying until April biggrin.gif

MX ergo Clear = MX Clear with light-weight modded spring from brown, red or blue.
ergo Clear is one of the 2 variations of modded MX Clear.
There is still another variation called MX panda Clear, which using 'Clear' slider with a spring from a Cherry MX Black.

These switches have clearer tactile bump feeling.

The banggood one. USD59 for a MX Black TKL. Comes up to below RM200 after conversion, etc. I thought wanna get from taobao, but considering conversion, fees and transport it's cheaper through banggood.

Topre is realforce. No such thing as going for cheapo type heaven.

I would have splurged for HHKB but I don't like the layout

The banggood one. USD59 for a MX Black TKL. Comes up to below RM200 after conversion, etc. I thought wanna get from taobao, but considering conversion, fees and transport it's cheaper through banggood.

Topre is realforce. No such thing as going for cheapo type heaven.

I would have splurged for HHKB but I don't like the layout
*
How much is the realforce full layout? New or used 1 you wanna purchase?
Type heaven not really cheap tho, still expensive than some of the keyboards.

Almost bnib for RM750.

Type Heaven has cheaper keycaps, realforce has better quality I think. Like Ducky vs Ducky Zero.

I played bass, right handed player. Ex lead guitar and second guitar. Bass just making my right finger tougher. Typing use both hand, but I don't have problem. Still I', looking for something which is lighter than red.

30g topres mang. I think blues a bit heavy for typing now, since I switched. Still better for Dota though. Not sure if I will like the blacks now since it'll arrive after my Topre biggrin.gif

If blue is heavy then you need red or below, vintage black. But, seems like no best switch for me. All switch feels good. biggrin.gif Anyway, 30g is different type so I guess different feeling tho.

sweat.gif I feels my MX Brown is already very light compare to my laptop and my previous desktop keyboard, both of them are scissors membrane, I can't be sure how much forces it needs to actuate but I feels they needs heavier force to push it down, probably due to my uses of keyboard protector even thought it's just a thin layer of rubber.
Well, till I got a taste of MX Black or any other switches then I can confirm the actuate force of my scissors membrane. hmm.gif

It feels better because now you no longer need to bottom out with the keys before it registers.

For membranes, bottoming out is the norm, while for MKBs, it is unnecessary.

yup as long as it's from taobao I can order it tongue.gif biggrin.gif

wouldn't recommend those who want to buy those in big boxes cos will count as dimension weight (height x length x width / 6000 = weight in KG)

if your keycaps only weight 0.5kg but dimension weight comes out to be 8kg then it won't be worth it liao sweat.gif

sprit's 2nd gb allows you to choose to be full assembled or not.

if you are getting a full 87 setup, including assembly, it's about USD$300 with shipping.

sprit's 2nd gb allows you to choose to be full assembled or not.

if you are getting a full 87 setup, including assembly, it's about USD$300 with shipping.

So tempting...

I'm quite done with keycaps exploration, so I'm now on the journey of switches exploration now.

Tried Browns and Blues. Waiting for my blacks and Topre. What's next?

Once I tried them all... I shall be satisfied and start building my end-game solutions:

1. Topre board, TKL or fullsized.
2. Custom Ergonomic MX Cherry
3. Custom TKL MX Cherry

And that shall be all. Everything else will be sold and I'll retire from this forum except to warn people about the dangers and the cost

Prices are estimates, I think:
RM369 for Ducky Zero Shine.
RM220 for KBT Oni TKL (2nd hand) + Blue 37 keycaps.
RM120 for Banggood PBT white keycaps.
RM145 for Vortex Doubleshots.
RM 60 for 4 Black Dota keys
RM 15 for 1 White Dota key
RM260 for Filco MX Blues (2nd hand)
RM300 for Imsto keycaps
RM200 for SP grab bag. This one is best value IMO.
RM160 for SP DSA TKL keycaps
RM 40 for 4 SP novelty keys (G20 profile)
RM-269 sold Ducky Zero Shine.
RM750 for Realforce 104-keys
RM200 for Flashget G600 MX Black TKL
RM-30 for 2 novelty caps sold
RM390 for Raindrop R2

Total wasted spend: RM2,930

But I'm sure the other sifu will tell you that they have much more to get wink.gif

And all I've done so far is to reach the inevitable conclusion for my keycaps quest.

Now, onto trying all the switches.

Ergodox budget around USD 300 for whole set
Add about RM 300 for soldering tools.
Custom TKL budget around RM1,200
HHKB budget around USD 320 include shipping

Meanwhile, budget about RM 500 to test MX greens and MX reds.

Budget around RM 200+ for switches to test MX Vintage Blacks, and MX Ergo Clears, with the assumption that I won't keep it on the keyboards I will use.

So, about RM 4,300+ to go before I will stop.

Holy SHIT, Massdrop doing the ergodox drop again! FML!

Test Topre switch first, see if I like. HHKB usually going for USD 260. Assume it's USD 60 or so worse case shipping cost for budget purpose.

Btw, ergodox is ONS!

i feel like i dont want to send the keyboard for warranty anymore. as long i can type, i can live with it. what a waste of RM450 for such a good keyboard with LED problems. mad.gif

Yikes. Sorry to hear that bro. Hopefully my K95 won't have such issues.  sweat.gif

K95 is by far more better than K70 in terms of LED durability. i buy K70 is because i dont find any good use of the macro keys + save back my budget.

i will have a long time to go before i could buy custom MKB, no longer fancy LED MKB anymore.

No need to claim warranty already.. At least still can type. When more LED spoils only send to fix.
*
hi there and yeah, its been a while. laugh.gif
naw, i will never send in for warranty again, no matter how many LEDs died. i will still continue use the keyboard till it die due to old age. to add, i no longer fancy bling bling keyboards as well.

The K95 is basically a K70 with the Macro Keys anyways. That's why I worry haha. Plus I like the bling bling. tongue.gif The only reason I got was because of a good deal anyways. Was actually planning for the K65. laugh.gif

Yeah same. Gonna be a whole before everything settles and get a custom. thumbup.gif

yup, definitely able to customize the logo. minimum additional charge is RMB30 for a custom mould though.

Not worth to bulk order wrist rest due to the weight, it is as heavy as poker2. Approximate around 0.5kg for TKL size.
Unless u mean for sharing the extra charge of new design/custom logo. RMB30 is the minimum amount of charge, might cost more if your logo/design is complex or they feel hard to make it.

what is this? it's a upcoming kickstarter project to make a cherry mx mechanical keyboard + mouse + joystick combo all in 1.
imagine a mouse sized ergodox with mouse function and PROBABLY, all running wirelessly.
left 20 days to back this project, with minimum price to obtain the keyboard is at USD$200 + USD$20 shipping outside US.
