Hi guys,
Here's my experience with Savvy overheating engine, maybe somebody will be helped with this...
A few days back I noticed that my Savvy AMT 2009's engine was overheating (bar 4) sometimes especially when standing still in traffic. After a few days i found that it only happened in the evenings and that it only happened when the headlights were turned on and was made worse (going to bar 5) by the air-conditioning being turned on also.
I tested it a few times more yesterday evening and it happened every time: turn on the headlights while the car is stationary, and the heat bar in the dashboard would go to level 4. Turn off the headlights and the heat bar would go down back to level 3 within 10 seconds.
I tried looking online and in this forum but found no solution to engine overheating and turning on the headlights / air-conditioning. i had the battery checked and it was all-right. Then I went to the Proton dealer and they followed my instructions to verify what was happening.
First the technician thought it was a problem with the fan attached to the radiator... But the fan was still blowing when it was overheated and it was blowing at the same speed as when the headlights were turned off.
Then he checked some fuses (located to the right of the battery). He took them out and wiggled a bit with them and put them back in again.
Then he opened the dashboard and took out an air-filter from behind it. I didn't even know it was there. But it was totally dusty and dirty. they cleaned the air-filter up just by blowing some pressured air over it and put it back - case solved!
No more overheating, turning on the headlights and airconditioning doesn't affect the engine temperature any more. Very happy.
Merry Christmas!
