put on this way

what ever display devices (TVs, monitors, LCD screens, projectors) that have HDMI, composite, VGA, DVI-D or DVI-I output etc, supports XBMC. Mine is playing from a PC connected to LCD screen via a DVI-D.

You have to concerned what device that is connected to your TV. As long the chipset and OS supports XBMC you are good to go.

Lets map the basic

Internet >> device (XBMC installed) >> display devices (TVs, monitors, LCD screens, projectors etc )

In related to you question above, if you are thinking that XBMC can be installed from your smart TV, I can't answer that. But it definitely can play XBMC via some sort devices.

think u r looking for a tv where u can install xbmc, bypass all other devices.

i doubt there is one as xbmc is an open source app, no tv maker dare put it in to invite huge potential legal and copyright issues.

I've tried Plex before running from a PC, as we know Plex is based on XBMC. It is quite nice but I like XBMC.

A good read btw about XBMC vs Plex http://lifehacker.com/5991757/should-i-use...home-theater-pc nod.gif

I'm using a Mac mini hooked up to tv.

Sickbeard to manage TV shows + + Couchpotato for movies + Sabdnbzd for downloads

Control all with Logitech Harmony remote.

That works best for me.

Toshiba Android TV - has Google Play Store pre-installed.

In fact, more TV manufacturers will switch to Android for their smart TV from this year onwards.

Reading the article and.. "XBMC is hard." Really? I think the only hard part about XBMC is finding out what addon to install. Or is XBMC hard to install on devices other than PC? What's your opinion? Since I'm only running XBMC on PC.

After finishing the article, I guess Plex makes it really easy to stream from your own media device on a network. But how many people do that? Leave their device on at home while they are away? hmm.gif

having been thru xbmc with pc windows and android, i think the hard parts are, for a beginner:

.. it is not plug n play, need to read a fair bit and watch a few videos, fumble around to install properly
.. confusion with xbmc and xunity: once u add xunity, a no. of differences arise albeit non-major
.. one won't know which addon is from which repo - must read and then trial n error, keep notes for future reference
.. slow or unstable broadband access complicate matters as it will crash during installation
.. constant auto addon updates slow things down, gives impression it hanged; more acute if u hv too many addons

but i agree the level of customization and options available is amazing. xbmc, once u know "how to", it is a breeze.

plex is interesting. from below, does it mean plex can only stream video on demand, can't do some of the live tv stations like in xbmc?
QUOTE
XBMC offers a remarkably high level of customization, from plug-ins to skins to additional features like watching live television.

below is also interesting, which means it is possible more tv makers will in future sell tvs preinstalled with plex or some variant.
QUOTE
Set Top Boxes and Televisions: Plex runs on Samsung TVs, LG TVs, and Roku boxes, both for free. XBMC doesn't support any set top boxes other than the jailbroken Apple TV 2.
