I would like to do a survey here after trying a new TV box recently. Noted a significant difference in the speeds, startup, shutdown etc.

Seeing a faster response is indeed comforting. Ha. So would like to compile some data and share later. This may also determine which TV box I get later! Ha.

Appreciate your inputs as below:

TV box model:

Cold startup time (from power on to seeing the internet connection and time on the screen):
AA=

Shutdown time (from pressing shutdown button on remote to seeing the red light on the TV box):
BB=

KODI aspects

Startup time (from clicking on the Kodi icon to seeing the full root menu on the screen (this may be skin dependant)):
CC=

Shutdown time (from clicking on the QUIT/STOP button on the screen to getting out of Kodi):
DD=

Many thanks!

P/S Just state the following in your reply
TV box model =
AA=
BB=
CC=
DD=

QUOTE(voncrane @ Jul 28 2016, 06:44 PM)
I believe this thread is for sharing info, having certain needs met and not ranking who's box is the fastest, etc.. Here's an example, I have 3 Kodi variants installed on my box; one is left as stock (Minix_few MB), the other I use to test builds/play around (Jarvis_sometimes over 2GB), while the last one is considered as a stable installation, having about 10 core addons (Official Jarvis_under 1GB). Pray tell, which do you think would launch or quit the fastest? Which has the higher potential to crash or be buggy? Does that then speak for the box? So I believe even after answering the above questions (you've painstakingly thought of... much effort  notworthy.gif ) per box, it still doesn't really answer what the typical newbie is interested in.. Seasoned Android box users pretty much know what they want and how to go about getting it..

Note: The above is just my opinion, others can feel free to take on the survey..  smile.gif

Noted.

Different people see things differently and with different needs. Hardware spec alone does not always tell the truth as there are other factors affecting the performance eg software structure, complexity, etc. i.e., the overall hardware and software build.

My TV box takes more than 1 min to shutdown Kodi. Surprised that another model takes less than 20 secs to do it! Start up is also faster. Not that I am after the one which is 0.1 sec faster. Just a broad view of which group is faster which will help me in my future upgrade. Using TV box everyday, the speed matters to me.

Looking back on my purchase, if I knew B is this much more responsive/faster, I would be willing to spend RM40 extra to get B over A.

Just my thought.

don't conclude anything with that.

take time to monitor.

things can change over time with more usage, updates, garbage that gets into kodi.

1 min? many experience kodi simply won't shut down! biggrin.gif

My comparison on A and B are with about the same Kodi build & apps. So I have some faith in the time difference.

I also encountered in the past where Kodi or Android would not shutdown. Have to switch off the power.

Clear cache & clear packages prior to shutdown to improve the shutdown time

Thanks. Will try that and see.

Still waiting for your input. Got only 1 PM so far. Hope that more can contribute.

Really appreciate inputs from those with the high end TV boxes like Nvidia Shield, MINIX NEO U1, WeTek Core, Amazon Fire TV 2, Roku 4 etc.

Thanks.

Just managed to set up My Cloud NAS.

Played some music on the default Android media center player. Sound quality was OK, clear but too light for my liking.

What are the top 3 music playing apps in Android?

Rocket player?
n7player?
VLC?

Any better free ones?

Thanks.

Need help.

Following Home Land and Game Of The Thrones in Exodus. Unfortunately, no update for 2016.

Why?

They have stopped with these 2 series? They will only make them available a year later, ie 2016 series in 2017?

If you know of other places to get the latest shows of HL & GOTT, please share.

Thanks.

GOT last season 6; season 7 will come in mid 2017.

Thanks.

I started GOTT in Jan this year after I got my H8 in Nov 2015. Watched seasons 1 to 6 for a few months (up to 6x10 episode which was aired on 26-jun-16). Checked a few times, no more update.

So started HL while waiting for more GOTT. Now on HL episode 5x10 (aired on 6 Dec 2015).

For GOTT, no more update since Jun 2016, for HL, no more update since Dec 2015.

Thus asking here for alternative links. Or maybe the updates are not that regular but on yearly basis?

P/S Yes, I have seen Woman in Red (GOTT) many months ago.

Browsing and found this.

I thought Homeland and Game Of The Thrones are aired one episode a month over a year, looking at their 12 episodes a year . Wrong!

Just found out that they aired the episodes weekly for about 3 months in the USA.

So, reason why I don't see any update is because they have finished the GOTT series for 2016.

And NO HL series in 2016. Coming out in 2017.

See below.

Hope sifu here can help me on how to simplify my channel access.

Everyday, I have to click
1. kodi
2. Video
3. add-on
4. scroll down the list to find BBTS
5. click BBTS
6. scroll down to new NEWS
7. click on NEWS
8. scroll down to find ChannelNewsAsia
9. click on CNA

Then watch the news.

Is it possible to create a shortcut where I can click on the channel I want to watch at the top or 2nd top menu?

I have tried FAVOURITES but it is not working.

if u mean china apps for china dramas, answer is yes and no.

there is a clampdown on illegit aggregators:

.. popular illegit aggregators have been shut down, now playing hide-n-seek.
.. some are still available, not at their best; u need to hunt them down, trial and error:
http://app.shafa.com/category/vod
.. legit ones like mango, youku, cibn are fine but u get only limited free videos, rest are for paying VIP users.
Kodi... FAV will work. if it does not work, it may be that the saved fav is an old one, not working anymore.
delete it, then go to the working channel, add it as fav again.

BTW, CNA can be found in BBTS and adriansupertv.

Yes you can.. Involves installing and most importantly, configuring a compatible skin.. Some work required.. Remember, this is Kodi and not some preconfigured Live TV device such as an Astro decoder. That's why they charge the big bucks.. Maintenance and ease of usage comes at a price..  smile.gif

Thanks.

Wanting to do my own setup since I started on this TV box thing.

So will give that a try one day.

Tried again with the Super Favourites. Some successes and some just hang there. I thought it is possible to put sub menu as favourite rather than just the final link.

To get to Super Favourites will require 3 steps with a long scroll down as S is at the lower end of the alphabets..

Found a simpler way.

Once you get to the SF, right bottom click to bring out the menu. Select edit favourite, select programmable, I used "1" key as the trigger.

So when in Kodi, press 1, it will bring up my SF!

Still trying to find out why some links are OK while some are not. Eg for one link, I have to go one level higher and it then works in SF.

Cheerio.

Slow Kodi learner here. Just learnt one useful thing today.

When I watch movies in Kodi, I have to download the subtitles for every movie. Said to myself maybe I should suggest to Kodi group to include the option to auto set the subtitle when watching movies.

Yes, it is already in Exodus!

Just go to Exodus setting and somewhere in there, you can enable the subtitle whenever you watch a movie/show.

Can someone help me with what is "convert to xxxxx8" the option after enabling the subtitle?

So, one less hassle to download the subtitle in watching movies now! Ha.

Thanks.

ok... until an upgraded q5pro 16gb android7 comes out, i hope.

That was what I thought with H8 till I got Q5 Pro. Was a bit reluctant to change over due to the smaller GB.

But after the change, I am happier with Q5 Pro than with H8. More stable and also better features though they are from the same company.

On the GB, I think the partition setup is different and thus no problem with running out of space in Q5 Pro as one will think with half of the H8 GB.

I would recommend the Q5 Pro from Nicety as the beginner and mid range TV box. The extra RM50+ is worth it, in my view.

Thanks. Good news for Q family.

Now need to upgrade my TV to UHD 4K/8K etc to benefit from the HDR, x bits colour etc. But hard to justify when my Pana plasma is still doing fine. Ha.

Facing this volume problem for some months now.

Using Hyptv and also Q5 Pro on my Pana TV.

With a family of 5, when using HypTV and Q5, need to adjust volume as volume from different channels are different and also to make things worse, different people use different volume adjustors (HypTV vol, Q5 vol and TV vol).

My earlier plan is to adjust TV vol to 50% (common to both HypTV and Q5) and then user will adjust their respective vol on HypTV or Q5. Wife still complains saying it is too loud when she uses HypTV.

Son came up with a good idea, set HypTV and Q5 vol to 100%, then adjust the vol using the TV vol. Tried it, working OK.

But the programmed TV vol adjustor on HypTV and Q5 remotes are rather small and in awkward position.

So either we get used to that or I adjust the TV vol to about 20-30%, then use HypTV or Q5 vol to adjust.

Any other better solution?

Thanks.

diff tv's, diff devices all have their own characteristics.

i set all devices  at 70-75% vol and using tv 20-30%, ok.

Ya, come to think of it, it makes sense now.

TV vol setting is the master. Once one sets it to 30%, that is the maxi vol available to HypTV and Q5 where their 100% corresponds to the TV 30%.

HypTV and Q5 0-100% work within the TV 30% I have set.

Wish I realised this months ago. Ha.

From my H8 and Q5 experience, it is not just the 2 numbers. When comparing 2 models with about the same GB, need to find out how the vendor has split the partitions.

And of course, 3/32 is already 1 step ahead of 2/16 and I don't think they will split the 3/32 partitions to be worse than 2/16.
