May i know how's the video n audio quality for downloaded content (.mkv) when playback on Android TV box compare to Realtek based player ?
*
if u r used to Realtek like acryan, u will find realtek video softer but smoother, good for the eyes. U may find androids deliver harder but more colorful video. audio, I like acryan a little more, cleaner sound, than my Himedia android for dts n dtshdma.

I'm using Xtreamer at the moment which is realtek based, n thinking of upgrade. If the video more colourful/vibrant (which i prefer) but as sharp n clear as realtek, then sounds like android tv box is for me. If im taking that path, im torn between himedia q16 n minix x8-h, with China gov starting to crack down on IPTV, i more mean towards minix with xbmc as the strong point.

But regarding the harder video, do u mean its not as clear n sharp as the realtek ?

Thanks !

I read minix is a good one, very good for XBMC. but I think it does not pass thru hd audio, will downgrade dtshdma to core dts only. If so, not so good if u hv a good ht system.

China clampdown is on non legit ipTV or those abusing radio license. u can still get some "more legit" ones. I do not see more sites being taken down, so that may be it for now.

I mean my android playback video is hard in that it is sharper, so sharp that my eyes dun like it in the beginning. After awhile n adjusting the TV, it's fine. It also depends on what files u play mostly. I am referring to 1080p n bdmv files. Low grade files will not matter much, little difference.

Most of the time i'll be playing 1080p mkv files both in 2d n 3d. IPTV is secondary to me so i will no go for paid one.

As for dtshdma support, im not worry abt it at the moment bcos i dont have high end ht, bcos its gonna be in my bedroom, dts n dd support should be sufficient for now.

As for the video being too sharp, like u said, the adjustment on the TV should overcome it, i hope.

Is there any other shortcoming for minix x8-h? Prefer minix bcos it have sleeker UI n xbmc thats look cool ... hehehe.

By the way, my intention to upgrade my media player is due to audio delay issue on my old Xtreamer after changed to new tv n hope the new gen of player can rectify the problem.

I'm using the Minix Neo X7, decided not to upgrade to the X8-H yet cuz my current setup works perfectly for me. Waiting on more powerful specs. For new buyers, you should go for the upgraded box as the X8-h technically does all the X7 can and more, plus its more future proof in terms of OS upgrades. For best real life experiences on the X8-H, I suggest you join the official Minix forum and forums like freaktab. There you'll find more users, official and custom mods to tweak your device just the way you want it. The Minix team work directly with xbmc and so have superior support where xbmc is concerned. Feel free to ask me if you want anything tested on the X7.

Thanks for the heads up.

As pointed out by AVFAN, the video quality should not be worse that Realtek based player, as the video will be more colourful n sharper. My other concern will be, the support of 3D movies, Western Digital MyBook 3TB USB external harddisk n the amount of free English/Chinese TV series / drama.

ah... welcome to the club! biggrin.gif

i had so much fun with acryan for 3yrs, thoroughly enjoyed it for media playback. but i did not like it when they stopped paying license for youtube. i was thinking of a way to stream youtube when I read about android tv boxes. after getting one, I realized the power of it, the need to dwnld became much less, just stream, watch n forget the casual ones.

XBMC is the biggie, have fun. wink.gif

my experience, xbmc is much better with on demand streams, english stuff.
live tv... yes, you can get a lot in navi-x from azerbaijan to greece to iran to nz, but they kinda come n go, not stable, not well organised.
then u can build yr own live tv streams xml if u know how. e.g. local tv1-9 not difficult, some indon ones too.
check out xbmc thread, can pose question there, see if anything new n useful recently.

imo, if u r looking for live hk canto drama, stop looking at xbmc.
xbmc in general is poor for asian stuff, not much.
u r better off checking some iptv apps, but are payable.

Video quality is excellent for me directly connected via HDMI to my plasma TV. Planning to buy an led TV soon, so hoping for even better picture quality (Knocks on wood). Before this, I was using a Noontec A9 android box, so I can't comment on comparison to a Realtek based player. I can personally confirm full support for 3D SBS movies & WD MyBook 3TB which I'm using. Others have reported support for even 4TB hard disks.Usually if the external hard disk has its own power supply, it should work. I primarily watch English movies, TV Series & Live TV and so can't comment on Chinese content but since its powered by android, there are apps out there including Netflix, HULU, XBMC, Cloudtv, Monster Pro etc that should be satisfactory for you. My XBMC setup is heavily tweaked to pull hundreds of live English TV channels worldwide, in addition to various addons that provide instant streaming of full movies and seasons of TV shows, even old ones. I recently just finished watching all seasons of "Fresh Prince of Bel Air". So there's literally an endless supply of free English content.

Technically it's a media player that can stream almost any types of video from any source with nice slick ui.
For the channels you can add extensions for movie/TV shows/sports.
Also, xbmc has changed their name to Kodi now.

Can't wait for my Mi Box to arrive, this will be my first Android TV box, previously only used those classic A.C.Ryan Playon players.

If you're planning to use xbmc/kodi with mibox you'll need to root it so xbmc can work flawlessly
Something about xbmc needing root access so it can play mkv/HD videos without any problem.
I'm still figuring out how to add additional buttons/function on my harmony remote to control mibox.

Minix neo X7 user here.

Anyone tried streaming tonton.com.my in desktop mode? In mobile mode the quality sucks so desktop mode is a must. I've tried with Chrome, Dolphin Jet Pack and Puffin Web Browser. Only Puffin Browser could run the stream, but lots of stutter and ends up crashing each time.

Any ideas how to run the streaming site properly in desktop mode?
