Sorry for my noob question. How does an NJOI tv box work? Does it connect to internet or use aerial signal (if rain cannot use)? And an NJOI box can only show the channels within NJOI, and cannot load any other applications right?

Oh, so it still needs an Astro dish. I thought it can be used like a DVB-T2 box (for local channels) and can watch the paid channels over the internet. I remember I subscribed for a bit last time for Game of Thrones, but that was via web. Thanks for the replies!

Yes, you can.

Two prepaid packs at two different prices: Family Pack RM30.24 + Sports Mega Pack RM50.76 = RM81 per month (incl. 8% SST).

You’ll also get 9 HD Pack channels by default, included with those packs.

For only RM50.76/30 days with the Sports Mega Pack, it's the cheapest "Sports Pack" you get with 4 Sports Focus channels (Ch 821-824) as well. Just no 4K UHD & OTT app for NJOI, sooka will be the alternative; you've to subscribe to the app separately.

That is not an "issue". That is to be expected.
NJOI want you to start paying. As simple as that.

What you mean "new NJOI subscription"??
Did you mean, can you use My NJOI app and enter the smartcard number of this Astro/NJOI box you're using?
The answer is yes.
Actually it doesn't matter which box model you are using. As long the box is assigned under NJOI in their system, then My NJOI app will work just fine.

No Paris Paralympics 2024 on NJOI.

OKEY Ch 146 will not air the Games due to no broadcasting rights on Astro. Viewers are advised to stream on RTMKlik’s dedicated portal at https://paris2024.rtm.gov.my.

Not sure why but my parent’s home NJOI still have those SD channels.

It will be phased out eventually. Until then, enjoy it while it lasts.

Then just enjoy it. Your parents will lose access to those SD channels soon. Be prepared to pay at least RM15 per month to continue access to those channels (good thing is, it'll be in HD quality).
Or pay RM28 for Family Pack for more channels.
Otherwise, you can start to prepare a empty spot in the store room, so that your parents can put it there when they can't access those SD channels anymore.

Note: If the box is not powered on, or has no satellite signal for more than few consecutive weeks, you will see "Smart card error" and then "We Apologise for the Service Interruption" error when you power it up next time.
When this happens, you'll need to perform smartcard refresh (you can do it self-serve on My NJOI app or WhatsApp chatbot). Once it is done, you'll be able to watch channels as usual.
Same like Astro's, it's typically 5 years.
