without comparing availability of the channels,
RM99/once vs RM270/once vs RM110/mth does not seem like a difficult decision to fuss over
*

It is obvious, out of Astro totally.

I honestly dont get why they wanna scam RM99 for flipping a switch.

they could have just tell me to sign up a couple of paid NJOI a few months as contract. If I have to pay RM99 + paying again for AEC/CH333 they might as well dont bother.

Astro: need to return everything back. decoder, dish, smartcard.

Njoi: the equipment is yours. decoder, dish, smartcard.

I don't see RM99/once for Astro to quit their claim on the equipment as too much. You can orherwise spend RM270/once to get completely new equipment.

CODE
2.1.6 Subject to Clause 8 below, if the Services are discontinued or terminated at any time for any reason whatsoever either by the Customer or Astro, the Customer shall allow Astro and/or its authorised agents to retrieve the Reception Equipment from the Customer’s premises, failing which Astro reserves the right to charge and the Customer shall be liable to pay Astro the cost of the Reception Equipment.

The Customer shall return and surrender the Reception Equipment to Astro in the same condition it was when it was initially provided to the Customer, fair wear and tear excepted, failure of which shall result in the Customer being liable to pay Astro the cost of the Reception Equipment.

If the Customer wishes to re-subscribe to the Services following termination, any Reception Equipment not returned by the Customer at the time of termination may not be authorised by Astro for use in respect of the new subscription.

regardless if they'll leave you with your existing ex-Astro-turned-njoi box or they'll replace your box, RM99/once to keep it forever is better than RM270/once, right? You end up getting the same njoi service anyway.

--

End of October, I went to Astro Service Centre.
I told CS i want to terminate one of my box, later to install njoi.
Not the exact words, but basically she said "don't need to go round about it; can just pay RMxx/once to switch astro/monthly into njoi/once. Can continue using the box. When rosak later, then only encik buy new njoi to replace."

No, i did not end up switch permanent to njoi.
She enticed me to switch to last-promotion-day for ultra-low, basic RM20-ish/mth (discounts after discounts) than quitting altogether.

You can use back your existing Astro box and then convert to NJOI by paying a one off RM99.

Of course, make sure no remaining contract and no outstanding balance.

So once you convert to NJOI, then all the equipment is yours to keep. Just use it until it spoils. Once spoil, then buy whole new set at RM200-300.

If your Astro monthly fees is your concern, why not consider downgrade/change your Astro packages? Primary Pack at RM59.99/month (24m contract), you can get AEC and Hua Hee Dai already.

ok let me try to understand.

In other word I went from renting the box to owning the box with RM99. The box isnt mine to begin with, this isnt the same as TM unifi broadband where after we subbed for x years of contract we own the box.

.... errr, yes, like you said.
renting-forever vs owning-forever.
also read @joshhd's response right above your post.

Astro owns the equipments, you pay subscription to rent it. They have right to take it away or penalise you if you refused to return their equipments.
If you pay them RM99/once, the equipments will become yours for eternity. Astro won't come back demanding return.
When now-yours ex-Astro equipment broke, you buy new set of equipment.

Or you can terminate and let Astro took their existing equipment away.
Then you spend RM270/once to OWN fresh equipment.
When it's broken, you buy new set of equipment.

The box is not yours to begin with? Lol, only account holder can make changes to the account including converting to NJOI...

I strongly advise you to understand the T&Cs before you subscribe to any service. Otherwise, now you realise all these things and you feel uneasy also no point.
Don't expect the salesman will tell you everything, including things that they don't feel like telling you. At the end of the day, they just want to earn your commission.

If you don't want to convert to NJOI; maintain Astro service:
Since your priority is just Astro AEC and Hua Hee Dai (and then the rest of channels don't have also nvm?), you can consider switch to Astro new packs, called Primary Pack.
user posted image

As for the monthly price, choose your preferred contract period first:

24 months contract = RM59.99/month
12 months contract = RM64.99/month
0 month contract = RM74.99/month

To know more about Astro new packs, refer here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=102870411

If you want to switch with NJOI
You can only call Astro customer service to get it done. The number is 03-95433838.
If you WhatsApp or email or message them, say that you want to convert to NJOI, they'll eventually tell you to call customer service to get it done instead.
(Of course lah, if they make it too easy for everyone to convert to NJOI, then they bankrupt lor... The more the hassle, the better, so that you will give up mah)

Also, you need to give 30 days notice in advance as it'll considered as terminating Astro service.
After settled with the RM99 conversion fee, now you want to subscribe to the prepaid channels to watch AEC and Hua Dee Dai.
You can consider get this Duo Chai Pack, costs RM35 for 30 days. That pack includes Astro Hua Hee Dai.

I remember received call from Astro offering upgrade from njoi with this options. Didn't take, going to wait until fibre contract end and switch to Astro broadband.

to use njoi, you need to buy and own the equipment.
it's no longer "rental" where Astro comes to replace when it breaks.
when njoi breaks down the years, you are to buy anew.

you choose:

RM270/everytime to (re)purchase and install fresh set of equipment.

or

RM99/once initially to purchase over current set of equipment, no installation fee; and later, RM270/everytime to (re)purchase and install fresh set of equipment.

If you switch to Astro & Broadband, then you'll only have 24 months contract option.

0 month and 12 months contract option is applicable for those who don't opt for Astro & Broadband.

And yeah, the contract is auto renewal.

Those channels will be ceased for good on Feb 1, 2022. Maybe some technical faulty as to why those channels were not removed yet from the NJOI channel line-up.

I am the acc holder. I totally understand now.

As for the channels, The primary pack is useless to me since I only need 2 channels. That means other channel is worthless.

I seriously think Astro should improve their individual channel pricing, it seems like that they intentionally make it cost almost as much the entire package. doh.gif

I think I rather cancel the whole thing.

Of course lor... They want people to pay more money.
Make NJOI look "expensive" so that they can upsell you to upgrade Astro packages. That's their business strategy for decades, so it's not something new.

In that case, so what's stopping you from cancelling Astro altogether?

"Overlooked" for sure...
Or maybe it's "We're too busy, no time to go update it. So wait till the channel cease first, then only update. biggrin.gif"

I see. Then I'll give you 2 reasons to stay with Astro:

- Astro is the Malaysia's No. 1 Entertainment Destination platform.
- If not Astro, who else?
