You sure about it? ROG are way too expensive if compare with others with similar spec. It is not worth it. Get the clevo barebone from illegear (z5, Q5) or cyberforge (sm-15) and you will not regret it. And pls bear in mind that the after sales service for asus in malaysia is  shakehead.gif . I owned ROG laptop before and tons of problem came out after 1-1.5 year of usage...curently using barebone from clevo and there is no quality issue at all. icon_rolleyes.gif

looking for something powerful and in small thin form factor lo. G501 is around 2kg.. and it's not as thick as some other gaming pc.

using this not so much for gaming but need a fast proc & dedicated gpu for work. plus have to pull out laptop on the road. Ideally macbook air is the best but my software cannot run on ios...

If y50 is your definite choice then you should upgrade the display. It's original display/screen sucks.

You might consider Alienware 13 (updated version) is 2kg but only with 13" screen, it is using 5th generation cpu but the down side is dual core (i5-5200u). Same 960m gpu. Of course it is few hundreds cheaper. But if u need larger screen, then u just take what u think u need....

Hey guys i'm looking at ASUS G501JW gaming laptop on discount at Lazada.

http://www.lazada.com.my/asus-g501jw-cn117...ok-1406247.html

Is it a good buy? With the existing 6% discount from Lazada + 6% cashback from Shopback I think it'll set me back about 4229? Still Quite ex for me.

Anybody tried the HSBC friday discount for Lazada? Can use with Shopback cashback?

Hey guys , want to ask about your opinion, should I buy the Lenovo Y50 or Acer Aspire VN7-591G-744NK ? Dang, it's hard to choose between those two, I want to play The Sims (guilty pleasure, don't judge) and GTA5 , will one of those two laptop be able to handle it? I travel a lot so thats why I want a thin laptop, I don't really mind the weight but I just need more space in my bag and my present laptop is just so bulky.

For gaming u should buy the Y50. It has better cooling performance than V Nitro from my experience. Temperature difference around 20'C. And regarding thickness not really much difference except for the V Nitro is a bit lightweight compare to Y50. nod.gif

Do you have any other suggestions on what I should buy? This is my first time buying a gaming laptop so I don't really have any experience or basic knowledge. My budget is 3-4k but I don't mind adding another 400 to 500 bucks if there's other more suitable choice.

So far i have use 3 gaming laptops, V Nitro, MSI GE60 then finally Y50 which im gonna stick till it cant support latest games. So far im happy with it performance GTA5 high settings around 45fps. nod.gif there's aplenty of choice with that budget but definitely stay away from MSI GE60 series (oven laptop). U may try to look for MSI GE62/GE72, or the famous Illegear Z5, recommended as it has great cooling capability. thumbup.gif

Both have similar hardware. Take the one you prefer. I'm sure you are aware of the pro and con for both the laptop.

Link : http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-G501JW-N...w.141745.0.html <<G501 review

It suffers from thermal throttling and the temp is quite good but performance would be lower than normal.

Z5 win Q5 in terms of specification. For e.g. Z5 has 4GB version of GTX960M, subwoofer, 8-cell battery and way better cooling.

Q5 has internal DVD rom and understated design.
