that is for gamer aspect, what if that kid is not a gamer just fancy of the bling bling feature and so?
It could be his "First" laptop for college. Even my first Laptop last time was around 2.5k like that Asus Z99JR( T6600 + ATi Radeon X2300), still can play game but old games ONLY and that time the trend was BenQ S42 iinm. Eitherway, my parents bought the laptop without consulting much on the spec.

Still, i feel sorry for the parents when kids are demanding expensive gagdets.  sweat.gif
*
Yeah true enough. The kid i mentioned wanted a msi but i know its out of the parent's budget. Thats y i recommended the lenovo, and the shop gave some freebies like wireless mouse and a simple canon printer for his assignments. Not bad mah. I also told the kid the Y50 wont run all games on max for the next few years but should be enough for his games and college since it is light to carry around. Parents was also pleased and thanked me for persuading his kid not to want the gs60 which cost 5k++.

Nowadays kids also know what they want, its the parents who thinks that they dont need. Better off to play games at home than take drugs off the streets tho.

Just got my nitro back yesterday. 2weeks of RMA and i got a brand new unit coz my original unit, the keyboard died after 5 days. Talk about acer and QC.
*
U are probably bad luck. Most reviews gave good points for their v15 nitro. At least u got rma for it. Support for acer is good lately, better than asus imo. Just enjoy ur new unit bro smile.gif

Guys, I'm buying new laptop. Need check for some help here
My budget is around RM3500, can anyone suggest me which laptop I should go for?
Thinking of G551, MSI GP70, and Acer Nitro.
*
Of the 3 choice, dont get gp60/70. Notorious heat issues for such low specs and price, and poor quality issues. You be better with ge60, g551 asus or v15 nitro.

FYI, MSI GE 60 Apache Pro has heat issue.. So better avoid getting it..
Other GE model i think is decent.. not sure though
*
Haha true. Can use friend technique, save furmark and hwmonitor software into thumbdrive and go install to display unit at shop and make test runs. The shop people also cant stop him lol.

He want buy gaming lappy and he test all the models at the shop. Ended up proving the guys there that msi models are hotter that asus ones. He bought a g750 with 880m in the end lmao. Funny friend...

Yup..I agree that its a very good laptop. Rave reviews and all...i should know..i did my research before buying it. Very happy with my purchase, just bad luck i guess. Acer does not have an exceptional rep when it comes to QC anyway and got to say that i kind of expected it even. PC Depot Alor Setar was good though..very friendly and they helped and got me a new unit as replacement from ACER.

I gotta admit that my first choice was the ASUS G551 but after reading about their RMA issues here, i went with the Nitro. Better performance/price ratio and after this experience, i have to say...so far so good when it comes to after sales services. I'm Just happy to get my laptop back.
*
Yeah asus lappy has good thermal designs but their after sales service is kinda bad. What a shame. What we laptop owners need is after sales service and support.
Sometimes is not just the shop u buy from, its also the service centre to communicate with the shop u purchase from and facilitate smoother RMA process.

Just an example: i bought a steelseries headset and razer ouroboros from a same shop. Unfortunately my luck is bad and the headset has wiring issues and the mouse has loose RMB. Got RMA for both but steelseries settle my issue in 6days and it took razer 3weeks. Says alot eh?

P/s: enjoy ur nitro bro and merry christmas smile.gif

Tested v nitro at lowyat

It is particularly warm at right side..dont seem like the display unit is actually running anytg and shockingly..the keyboard is "soft" or shallow not to my taste

Still torn whether to get it.. Next stop to illegears office!
*
V nitro is thin, therefore heat is more obvious. You should get the cpu/gpu heat readings instead.
But most important get the laptop that you like the most. Cuz you gonna live with it for few years.

Besides Acer V Nitro, any other recommended laptop around the same price as the Acer V Nitro?
*
You can search for asus g551 or lenovo y50. Or msi ge60 with 850m or asus g550 with 850m. Normally laptops with 850m are cheaper...but mind u that you are dropping 15% of performance from 860m.

There are not many laptops with IPS display at the moment, even if have also is kinda expensive, like my GE60 is 4199. V15 nitro at the moment is best bang for buck.

Thats the reason it is sold out nationwide. I think acer didnt know it would be selling like hotcakes... Tsk tsk. I enquire shops around penang (my place hehe) also dont have. And they cant give a definite answer as to when new shipments will arrive.

Anyone know Acer IPS screen is what type of IPS screen ? I believe it's AHVA right ?
*
All i know it is LG Philips LP156WF4-SPK1. Not sure what kind.

P/s: LG ips display is the best in the market. The same is used in my GE60 too. Just researched about it, was curious haha.

P/ss: sorry GE60 is using samsung PLS one. Now wonder the laptop price is slightly higher. Lol.

+1 to this.. I think MSI GE60 2PE is using AHVA.. So Acer V Nitro is using LG's AH-IPS ?!
If it's true then it's one hell of a machine for that price range..
AH-IPS is the best right ? is it ?  hmm.gif
*
Ahh... checked with my device checker and it is identified as Samsung 156HL01-102, which AHVA.

Yes v15 is using LG one. Therefore ur best lappy to go for smile.gif

Haha.. then Nitro indeed is best buck for that spec.. But I'm satisfied with my Z5  biggrin.gif
2 hours+ BF4 and COD:AW gaming on high settings 1080p.. gpu and cpu capped on 67 degree and 58-64 on average..
The cooling is the best I think among other same spec model  brows.gif
*
Haha of coz bro. If the CODAW is played on my lappy i probably would get 88++ degrees.

My samsung screen still displays 60hz despite being a ahva. I read somewhere it is becoz using lcd-pls tech. Unless u using lenovo y50 they are using 48hz TN screen. Lmao.

Adjusted, it's sharp now  rclxm9.gif

Since it's new, I'm still hesitating whether to leave it overnight or not for downloads coz i'm afraid it will reduce the battery life.. hmm.gif

Sometimes this is the problem with win8.1 crappy scaling system. You dont get this problem with win7.

Anyway nice monitor u have there smile.gif

i leave it low brightness as I have sensitive eyes and i actually have lots of strained eyes when using old laptop Lenovo.
I just hook up external display to show you it is sharp, but actually that display belongs to somebody else and she is off today, so I can tibai her beautiful IPS display.

You're welcome. smile.gif nowadays most notebook manufacturer started to provide built in battery, i really hate this cause i too usually use laptop without battery. I just dont understand why u must put a built in battery into a "gaming" laptop. For example Y50, V Nitro, even the Alienware 14. Reason being is to make the laptop thinner. sweat.gif
*
Not sure, but my GE60 doesnt recharge the battery unless it is less than 90%. So sometimes when playing intense games and the adaptor (120w) cant supply enough power to the laptop it will use up some from the batt. If play simple games like cs:go no prob but when play crysis 3 the batt will slowly drain until below 90% then only it recharges. I guess this helps to increase batt lifespan...
I also already ask other people in msi forums with their msi. Seems msi implement this tech across their gaming laptops.

Yap same. I think if less than 90% to 95%. nod.gif just that main enemy of battery is heat. Cant run away from that while gaming.  laugh.gif
*
Hmm, true. But battery nowadays quite efficient dy. when not charging it stays cool, warms up abit when charging. Lucky for me the GE60 has external batt and not internal and it is placed behind. Never liked some internal batt placement at the palm rest if the laptop...

That's the part I like MSI, Dell also have an option to turn off battery charging when power adapter is plugged in..
Too bad most laptop didn't have this kind of utility
*
Ah yes and i love external batt like the one in my msi.
If i am not mistaken asus also uses the same tech. Thats the reason most dell and asus (and msi of late) laptops last quite long. My friend's lenovo y410 kaput after 2yrs plus.

2 years + still okay lar.. not bad what.. at least not 1 year then gg
Laptop which can last 2 years+ is consider very good for me.. haha
Seldom 2 years or older laptop can keep up with recent technology and still perform very good 1.. (exclude business grade and high end gaming laptop)
*
Not really bro. Imo min batt age is 3years. My sister's Dell xps15's batt lasted her 5 years. My own old asus x42jr's batt was 4years plus. Both laptops have quad core i7 (1st gen) and dgpu. It made a lasting impression in my mind that dell and asus builds good quality laptops. Shame that the alienware will cost me my right leg if u buy them. Lets see how my msi last me xD
