Ah we shall not forget one of the main reason ipod is so famous is bcoz of its software.iTunes.

many agree that it's good.

but many also don't have the choice - either that or they just pick the Ipod due to it's looks.

LOL. what's the point, if someone can offer me an ugly looking one at half the cost - i wouldn't mind. after all it's going to be in my pocket. who cares about the looks.

Sansa e200 beats iPod nano in every aspect although their price are similar.
Larger screen, better material (metal), allows storage expansion, can play video, got FM...

iPod nano looks beautiful and sleek, but as a matter of fact its functionalities really turned me down.

you can use a program called yamipod http://www.yamipod.com

this program is cool because it doesn't require any installation. you just put one copy of yamipod.exe in your ipod harddisk. the next time you go to your friend's house, plug your ipod, run the program from your ipod and transfer the song from your friend's com. it will instantly be playable from your ipod!

The point here is differentiation

if you come out with a product that looks 90% similar to iPod and 50% cheaper, it will only attract those people who can't afford iPod but still wanna show off.

But if you come out with something really special and something that iPod doesn't have, it will be the real iPod killer.

Of course the name iPod itself is strongly established among music lovers, if other manafacturers want to kill iPod, they HAVE to come out with something REALLY special
