Elantra parts so not long lasting?  sweat.gif I still thought of getting a 2nd hand Elantra since I like the outlooks of the car really much. Saw some owner reviews at carbase also saying Elantra easily broken here and there...  rclxub.gif

So as a owner would you recommend this car?

looks is subjective to each individual.
to me, I will choose korean car because of the safety and other features provided and the build quality.

not so sure about the few cars that rosak here and there, I think those happen to CKD model.

So far my experience with 2 other korean cars, reliable and comfortable.
rosak yes, for CKD model, abs indicator rosak, door lock rosak, nth else (8 yrs car).
the other one SKD, almost 4 yrs, just a bit of knocking noise on dashboard and nth else.

My opinion for a car to be deem reliable.
It should be >5 years before the car start giving minor annoyances and >10 years before any minor issues.

Minor annoyances, i.e rattling noise, discoloration
minor issues, need to replace some non-critical parts

Hi bro, for my personal opinion, the car is still worth to buy if u can get a good condition 2nd hand Elantra

There's some minor issue which is quite common as below

1) steering coupling might need to be replaced( u can hear "tak tak" sound when the rubber coupling is rosak)
**Rm140++

2) "ngek ngek" sound when passing road humph
*could be front stabilizer link/ bush / lower arm
*can buy the parts at outside with much cheaper price
*u might face these issue if u always drive fast on the road which is in bad condition ( a lot of holes and uneven surfaces)

3) some ppl might think the car has the "body roll / sampan" feel when doing hard corners, while it can be reduced by installing anti roll bar

If these minor issues doesn't bother u, Elantra is a nice car for u smile.gif

Cheers

Yup, I don't think T & H can give that "reliable" terms as mentioned ( within 5 years)

I have frens and family who are driving newer gen of city and vios, the parts of the car is not that "durable" if u wana compare with old gen city/ vios

Car nowadays are equipped with much more electronic gadgets comparing to the old gen, therefore there are more things to rosak

For my personal opinion, it depends on your luck

For newer cars, yes I also agree the reliability of electronics not so good.

But with T & H, higher chance you get a unit that will be problem free for the first 5 years. Of course not 100% every unit lah.
i.e still luck involve, but less needed.

Well I do hope the latest Elantra will be reliable. All the while I'm driving Japs, want to try kimchi cars... lol

I think the quality of Hyundai's car is quite good nowadays. I own the previous generation Elantra HD (a.k.a. Avante) for 9 years now and it didn't give me any major issues so far. The only major problem I have encountered was Aircon gas leaking. The interior still in very good condition for a 9-year old car and many people are amazed. FYI, the parking of my apartment is open air. My car get to sunbathe everyday and I don't bother to use any sunshade.

So I am really looking forward for the new Elantra especially the Sport model.

Does anyone knows if the New Elantra (non sport) has autonomous braking? I am considering between Elantra and Ioniq. I would prefer Elantra but was also looking for something with Auto brake which is a safety feature

Haha...since the problem is not critical and it can be solve by replacing the parts, still ok la

I feel like the elantra in year 2013 batch will have higher chance to kena these issue, bcoz quite a lot of owner who faced these issue are from 2013 as well?

Anyhow, I still love it very much and hope it can be long lasting:)

If got I hope they provide an option to disable it. Also an important safety feature.
If got crazy parang wielding or motorcyclist gang blocking the way, I want to get away

Hyundai is having preview for 2017 Elantra sport at Mid Valley. I just went there today, exterior not bad, and tail lights are nicer than current elantra.

looks like no safety systems like the Ioniq visible from the first picture as there is nothing under the rear view mirror. This means no autonomous braking, no lane assist.

If it did come with all the safety features like the Ioniq along with the 1.6T, then this would be the must have car.

*I may be wrong, so we'll need to check the actual specifications. From the pictures from Paulina Tan the car seems to have blind spot monitoring.
