Am planning to do kitchen reno and buy and install an Electrolux chimney kitchen hood this time. Sorry if my questions below sounds silly, never installed a kitchen hood before.

For kitchen hoods, other than a power point to switch it on, are there any other electrical points required?

And should these points be situated directly below the hood or where?

Will the shop seller install the kitchen hood, or need to get a contractor kitchen hood installer to do it?

switch should b away from the hood if under hood then switch will b oily lo. i think minimum 2 feet away from hood would b good. Your contractor or wireman should b able to advise u as quite standard for all brands, they should know what to do.

hood installer u nd to talk to ur contractor, usually they can do it but it they cant then pay seller to install.

Thanks for your response. Sorry, I think I messed up my own question. Actually I wanted to ask, can contractor install kitchen hood, or is it better to get contractor to do up the power point for the hood during Reno, then get hood installer to install the hood? And is seller's installer usually a hood installer?

My house already come with the vent system and piping, the installer need open the hole and connect the hose and tape properly the connection. Most contractor wont do it, you can ask, if they dont, just ask the seller recommend you their usual contractor. I just bought my Fotile hood from zhilanwee last time, i use his installer because my contractor dont do it (usually they wont, they dont wanna take the risk). I pay around rm250 - 300 depend on the complication. Quite satisfied, nice workmanship and service =).

anyone/contractor can install the hood.. only different is workmanship..

like my SIL house, the contractor simply install the hood by 'screwing' the hood from behind panel (the panel at back for kitchen cabinet). now the hood can't be uninstalled easily. doh.gif

it should be just 'hook' using the bracket.
plug switch also done after installed hood. now the switch is at the edge under the hood.. bangwall.gif

so, better if u can prepared some highlights to installer or plan ur hood installation/wiring

So I need to buy hood, hob, etc first before doing kitchen reno. I will have to deal with 3 people ie an aluminium kitchen cabinet installer, a contractor for wet works, and a hood seller installer.

So do I consult the kitchen installer first to determine where to put the hood & hob and hence where to put its corresponding plug points, then get contractor to do wet works & plug points, then get kitchen cabinet installer in, then hood installer in?

Am asking for advice because I'm afraid if I determine the hood & hob plug points location myself and tell contractor, then may be wrong spot, don't want to end up tarik wayar. I also don't want contractor to install hood (thanks to forumner sharing experience), and kitchen cabinets got their own installer, so that's why have to deal with three people.

Thank you.

usually carpenter or kitchen cabinet ppl can tell u where to install hood n where to put the wiring, my carpenter actually marked it on the wall for my contractor to do accordingly.

but it also depends whether the kitchen cabinet ppl is pro & knowledgeable or not

Hi..I would like to buy a new hood..my buget around 2k...I have do some research regarding the hoods brand, now I stick to 3 brands-Robam, Fotile or Livinox...

1. Robam A812- Robam is China no.1 top sell of Hoods and usually strong in suction powers. But I just wonder hows their post-sales service and repair? I know Sen-H*ng is one of the authorized dealer, but still thinking on that.

2. Fotile EMS 9028 or CTS 9004- Fotile also one of the best hood brand in China. Strong in less noice. I know the service center at Shah Alam, I stay in Klang which is quite near my place and this is good if got anything need to repair or do maintenance. But near Klang area, I notice only Harvey Norman sell this brand? Is the service and repair good if got anything need to repair?

3. Livinox Lch Lapis 90ss- Initially I want to buy Livinox since got salesman highly recommend it for their heat-auto- cleaning services and good prices. But later I notice that the brand not from German and a Malaysia Brand oem from China? How the quality on it? Furthermore, how the maintenance and repair services if got anything need to be repair? I heard quite a number of bad reviews for their bad repair services?

My house is landed and not heavy cooking, so we just want to find a hood with easy to clean and surely good function as hood(don't need so high tech).

Any recommend?

Im looking for kitchen hood hob & built in oven, budget within 5k (also under tight the lesser the better)
[B]1.Fotile
2.Livinox
3.Rubine (very cheap but not sure about the quality less 1K)

Which one you highly recomend plus the hood hob built in oven need to be a flexi cut so it will be easier if need to be replaced in future.
Also appreciate if you could explain why you recomend the particular brand & the model.im staying in a condo.

hood : if u do not cover it with cabinet, quite ez to replace in future. check u can use ducting or not, if cant then survey for recycle hood

hob : u dont need to buy flexi hob now, when u replace only find flexi hole hob

oven, size quite standard, most importantly ur carpenter make the hole bigger a bit. standard external is 595x 595mm to 600 x 600mm for all brands. so the hole make is slightly smaller only
