Stoke have only lost once at home this season and conceded 7 out of those 10 home games. Scary eh?

QUOTE(solstice818 @ Jan 10 2014, 10:01 PM)
Brendan Rodgers was a phone-in guest on talkSPORT this morning, where he spoke on a range of topics – and we've transcribed the best bits for you to enjoy below…

Brendan, first of all, squad-wise, how are you looking?

Over the Christmas period we were unfortunate to have a number of injuries that brought the squad down in number. We only had about 15 players at one point, but thankfully over this last week or so, we're starting to get one or two back and they are very important players for us. Steven Gerrard came back into the fold against Oldham Athletic, which was great and obviously we've got Daniel Sturridge back training now, which is brilliant for us.

It's some league at the moment. Manchester City are scoring goals for fun. They have one hell of a squad, Brendan...

They've got an outstanding squad - one of the top squads in European football. The way they have pieced it together over a number of years is very good. They can mix and match, be really strong for each competition and it's a great credit to them how they've done that over the last number of years.

What's it like to manage a player like Luis Suarez? What's he like in training with his enthusiasm for the game?

I think the experience of working with Luis is something that is going to stay with me for a lifetime. To work with someone with that determination and desire and will to win - he's a real old-school striker. He's never, ever injured. He's never in the treatment room and he loves to train. He comes in every day to work. After a game, you sometimes do a first-day recovery, which is really low intensity. Then you'll do, for example, a second-day recovery, which is a more active recovery. But you're still recovering from the game. Luis just wants to train on that day. He just needs to be at it all the time.

Sometimes, do you have to hold him back?

Absolutely. When I first came in, I rested him in one or two of the cup games and I could see he didn't like it. I could see he wasn't overly keen on that. We spoke on it. But he's just a guy that wants to play all the time. Not for selfish reasons; he wants to help the team. What's been brilliant about these last four or five months has been his maturity as a man. It's a sheer pleasure to work with him; he's a real good man. His maturity on the field is there for everyone to see and his performances speak for themselves.

Where are you at the moment in your plan for Liverpool's progress? Are you happy with where you are in the table at this moment in time?

You're always striving to be better. In terms of the job I was asked to do when I first came in, I think we're well on track. Over three years we were given the objective to see if we could push to get back into the Champions League and we knew it was going to be difficult in the first year. But last year, as a calendar year, we made great strides. For us this year it was about being in the conversation. We were never talked about. When you listened to anyone talk, Liverpool were not even mentioned. So for us it was about defining how we wanted to play and how we were wanting to work, knowing that the longer we were here, the more success that would hopefully give us. We've started to work how I want us to work. We're on track, but when you're fourth, you always want to be third, or second and ultimately first.

Stoke away coming up next and then two home games against Aston Villa and Everton. The latter will have that added spice with the Blues really doing well alongside Liverpool...

We've got all the so-called 'top teams' to play now at Anfield, after a really difficult draw in the first part of the season, where we played them all away. Apart from Manchester United, we'll play them all at home. Everton over the last few years have been very strong. When I was at Swansea, they were still one of the best footballing teams that we played. David Moyes deserves a huge amount of credit for the work that he did there because they were fluent in their structure and their movement was good. Roberto Martinez has come in and done an outstanding job. He's made that extra pass and made them play with a bit more patience and we're starting to see his principles. They've been excellent and that bodes well for this part of the world.

In terms of the title race, does it surprise you that no-one seems to talk about Arsenal being champions this year?

Well, I've certainly heard it talked about. I think there's just so many teams in the mix. There's no way you can disregard them. They have top talents there, they have been reasonably consistent and they've still got a number of players to come back in from injury. So they've got a strong squad. I just think that when you move into this second part of this season, the teams who have that sort of squad are going to be really strong. We're fighting to be up there and we'll continue to do that.

Great humility from BR

We are in good progress speed.

Liverpool injury update -

Brendan Rodgers : "Daniel [Agger] will probably be three to four weeks," Rodgers told reporters on Friday. "Unfortunately he has picked up a calf problem, so he will be out for a while.

"Thankfully, we have now got players starting to come back. Steven [Gerrard] is back, which is great news for us. Daniel Sturridge has been training this week and looking very well.

"Young Sakho trained today so he looks fine to be in the squad for the weekend.

"Jon Flanagan has still got a bit of time to go. Jose Enrique is still out. We've got a couple of niggles which we'll have to look at over the course of the next 24 hours. But we'll certainly have one or two back."

Rodgers on being fined by FA -

“My view hasn’t changed. I obviously accept the punishment but I’m not one who is the enemy to the officials,” he said.

“My history will show that, I have always supported and encouraged them.

“I was disappointed after the game, disappointed with the outcome (the fine) considering my history but all I was doing was speaking honestly and in no way was I questioning the integrity of the referee.

“I was just talking about the logic and facts about other appointments would prove that true I am sure.

“But it is gone. The only reason I never challenged it was because I didn’t want anything getting in the way of what we are trying to do here.

“It would just prolong it and be something else to talk about when all I want is for us to talk about is our football.”

Brendan Rodgers on Victor Moses -

“There will be no cancelling the loan,” Rodgers told the ECHO.

“Victor and I have spoken a couple of times this week and I explained my reasons for taking him off.

“He has been excellent since then. I have seen a real marked difference in terms of his performance.

“I’ve been pleased with his response. He has made it very clear he loves it here – despite one or two stories I’ve heard.

An example of this was about two weeks ago when I had an open shot at goal and hit the post and it rebounded close to my hand and I was about to go for it and then I stopped.

'If the same thing had happened two months ago I would have gone for it. These things stay with me but I tell you I am changing.

'I am improving my attitude on the pitch because I know I was wrong in the past and I was creating an image of myself I know wasn't me.'

Please keep moses n use him sparingly....there's no place for him in Chelsea lineup... Players like Mata, wilshere n Ramsey, schurrle is only good enuf as Chelsea benchwarmer...

From few appearances, he did not show much hunger to work for the team. His decision making is also questionable. If he is good enough of course we will play him. But right now I'm afraid he has to work harder. He is behind Sterling, Henderson, Allen, and slightly behind Alberto.

Please sent Moses back to chelsea. Get Assaidi back.
Nice, Assaidi won't be able to play against us. Important player for Stoke now, he is.

The problem with Moses is his attitude and desire to win, he seems to slack off most of the time, whenever he is at the left wing, and the right wing is leading the attack, he will jog from left side to the opponent penalty box instead of sprinting.

Other than that, he lack the desire to track back, he always have the thought of being a forward doesn't have the responsibility to defend. BR certainly fancy hardworking players that able to do both offence and defense.

If he change his attitude and gameplay, he would be a good backup for us, and even regular first team player. But I don't really think it would happen.

Brendan Rodgers
"I'll be confident over the next few windows," the boss told the Liverpool Echo. "You saw last January we were fully prepared for what we needed and we got that business done early.

"We are fully prepared this time also. A lot of great work has gone in to prepare for this January window but it all boils down to the availability of the players.

"Where we're at this January as opposed to last January is that the team has evolved and grown and developed. It's a different team to what it was last January.

"Now there is greater demand on the types of players that we want to bring in. They have to be available first and foremost.

"If the right player is available not just for now but for the future we will look to do that. If not, we may have to go with what we've got for the rest of this season and reassess in the summer."

Please get Ryan Bertrand too(preferably on loan and give him some play time)... i like the boy but unfortunately jose doesn't rate non aggressive players....i dont want to see him rot on bench and loses his form...he could be a decent leftback...

Yup, Moses doesn't have to look far. Just take note what Assaidi n Borini have been doing at their loaned away club. Win-win for parent and loan club

Maureen called Moses every week. In that he says "Chill. Dont make any important contribution at all. We need to catch the Reds"

That's exactly what he did tongue.gif
