Firstly, I believe only ONE poster labeled him as "World Class". Suddenly it's case of everyone pro Allen saying so?

I on the other hand, insinuated that pride MAY prevent some fans from acknowledging that a player had a good game, or a good sequence of games, especially if said player has already been labeled as being eternally useless. Would make the comment seem foolish in hindsight.

I too rate players after they've achieved some degree of consistency as Henderson has and I'm glad he's silenced his critics (I don't see as many, "Hendo is useless" posts). Doesn't mean however that we could not have been supportive and emphatised with the fact that he was being played out of position when he wasn't doing well. Allen has only been consistent over 3 or 4 games in sequence because of injury being left out of the first team but in his time here, he's shown glimpses of his ability, enough for me anyway to suggest that he is at the very least, a useful squad player.

Different ppl different opinions and different expectations.

No offense to those who say he is WC, I for one, will never simply label a player world class cheaply just because he has a good run of games. But that's just ME. I don't speak for others so don't start getting trigger happy yet and talking about pride and ego coz it ain't nothing to do with it. Seriously what's my pride gotta do with Xavi's worldclassness? doh.gif  If he really throw in a world class performance, trust me I will be the first one off the blocks to acknowledge it. I'll dig up my ancient cyrix 486 and post here if I have to.
It just goes to show your ways of evaluating/accessing a player is different from mine. My list of world class players (based on current form) pretty much consistent with the Ballon D'Or candidates. Those are the real deserving players to be tagged as world class.
Some fellas will rate players on per game basis and some fans prefer to sit back to judge a player in the long run to avoid making conclusive hasty assessments which will sound premature. In the case of Xavi, he was poor (by my standards) all along since the day he join us. And all of sudden after a good run of games, he becomes a world class player out of the blue? VOILA. I would agree and acknowledge the fact he is currently a useful squad player atm, but nothing more than that.
To become world class, Xavi still got a lot a lot a lot to prove. And ball possession alone is not going to cut it.

Xavi is a world class player. no doubt about it. one of Ballon D'Or final list a few years ago.

You guys are still debating about Allen? Really?

Conclusion : Useful squad player at the moment. End of story. He might work well with Hendo and Lucas in midfield but the jury's still out there as BR hasn't tried that combination on a regular basis.

Yeah i remember that scene well. It was mostly a tease from BR tho, Allen was quite embarrassed by it.

Seriously, I feel pity for Xavi having to carry that Xavi name tag bestowed to him by whoever coined it. Xavi knows he gotta live up to Xavi's reputation esp after completing his high profile move from Swansea to Liverpool. To be fair, I feel that he was being overburdened by this whole Xavi hype, which caused his decline and loss of form. At times you can see he is trying so hard to play like Xavi to the point he is picking the safe passes just to avoid making unnecessary mistakes.

If this is one of BR's method to boost his players confidence, I can tell you now it backfired in epic fashion. See the dark side of over-hyping a player now? Those fellas who has never participate in a competitive event before will never understand the word "pressure"

Guess what, BR also suggested that Flanagan to be nominated in this year's Ballon D'Or candidate list, right after he scored his first senior goal for the club. Fortunately for most of us, he has yet to slap any nicknames on Flanagan yet; eg the next Steve Nicol, Chris Lawler, Mc Ateer, Cafu, Zambrotta or whatever

Not sure when we last struck gold with a player on loan. Anelka is the first name that comes to mind.
