Wow so lucky? What happened?
*
had bad experience with my CTO 15" rMBP mid 2012, they replaced a screen back in 2013 and the fan back in february this year.
just this month, they approved a screen, flash storage and top case replacement but the service provider here in Manila is having difficulties in ordering the parts because it requires permit from Customs before they can place order on the parts.
they gave me an option to order the parts through another AASP but it requires the other AASP to have the technical log of my Mac, which means i have to send my Mac to Manila again for diagnostic. bare in mind that i'm living 3 hours away from Manila.
I called Apple Care to get an exemption for the technical log and after a few hours they called me to let me know that i'll get a replacement unit rather than the exemption that i was looking for.
The replacement unit that they'll provide is also the one that has the highest spec, was really surprised with their decision
I guess it would make more sense to replace the whole unit rather than those parts, but bare in mind that nearly all parts would have been changed as the top case encloses the trackpad, speakers, battery and they're not removable.

Wow seems like a lot of problems sweat.gif but yours is under warranty right? Or you didn't get the apple care plan?
*
Yes it's covered under Apple Care Protection Plan. It was the best RM1199 I've ever spent on an Apple product biggrin.gif

Makes me want to buy the ACP liao brows.gif
*
you should!
i paid 8k for a low spec CTO 16GB RAM 2012 model with ACPP and got a brand new high spec model worth nearly 2k more than the price i originally paid for and i can purchase another ACPP for the replacement unit
they just informed me that i'll only receive the replacement around July due to regulatory approvals and customs rclxub.gif

when is the best time to charge your mac ? Did a bit of study .... Shouldn't let it discharge below 15-20% .... My only doubt is they recommend to plugged in if socket comes in handy .... But always charging it is bad also so ? How long should I plugged in even its already 100% ....

Trying to maximise my battery lifespan ...
*
just leave it plugged in whenever possible, it isn't charging when the MagSafe lights up in Green

if i purchase additional ACPP ... when does it begin if i still have my one year warranty ? end of my one year warranty or the day i buy the ACPP
*
after registering ACPP, you will have 3 years of coverage from date of purchase of your Mac

I understand that I will have extra 3 years but is it after my one year warranty so basically 1+3 ?
*
well like i said, its total 3 years from date of purchase of your Mac, which means 1+2

What happened to your old Mac...?  sweat.gif
*
Replaced a screen back in 2013, replaced the fan early this year, was about to replace another screen, flash storage and top case on May but the process of part ordering here in Philippines is too tedious.
Apple decided to replace the entire unit
unlucky me, the replacement unit that i've received is experiencing backlit bleeding so it has been classified by Apple as DOA.
they've sent out another unit to replace the replacement unit.
currently i have my old mac and this DOA replacement unit in my possession biggrin.gif
will have to drop by the service provider next week to collect the new unit and return those currently in my possession.

Just collect my rMBP from warranty claim due to trackpad faulty.
They change the whole top case, including battery!  rclxm9.gif really happy now.
*
even mid 2014 model's trackpad is built onto the top case?
at first i thought it was only 2012 as i was told about it by the service provider

Having gone through all the trouble, Apple did the right thing. I would not want to go through the same trouble as yours. Imagine if the only problem you had was the most recent one and Apple just give you a new set....Now that will be fucking awesome!
*
if you did indeed purchase a brand new one from Apple Online Store, any defect within 14 days after receiving the product, Apple will classify it as DOA and they will indeed replace it with a brand new unit.
but if its after 14 days, it would take 3 major repairs for them to CONSIDER replacing the whole unit with a brand new one.
if they don't provide a replacement unit, then it would be individual part replacements

MBP 13" 128gb + 16gb ram vs 256gb + 8gb ram. Any thoughts? Price is almost the same for those upgrades, but considering I can just expand storage with a 256gb SD card (despite slower write/read) speed, should I just opt for the 128gb + 16gb ram?
*
it depends on what you use the Mac for, if its just light usage i would go for storage.
if you do a lot of multitasking, 16GB makes more sense

But an extra rm700-800 for just the extra 128gb? Wouldn't it be more worthwhile to get a 256gb SD card for below rm400 and save the extra rm300-400 plus top up for th 16gb ram?
*
how fast is the 256GB SD card that cost RM400?
in my opinion, i would go all out if its for a product that i would use everyday

The usual 90 MB write/read. Can't get much faster with SD cards.
For future proofing I guess 16Gb ram is the way to go, but I'm trying to keep to a budget which can only fit in 1 upgrade. The price upgrade for 8 to 16Gb ram is more reasonable than the price for just an extra 128gb hard disk space...
*
I guess it's not too bad, on the 16GB regard, if you just use it for browsing even after 5 years it would still be sufficient
Ive been using a 15" rMBP with 16GB RAM, I sort of regretted upgrading it as I don't utilize it.
Besides bragging about it, it really did me nothing else.
But like I said, if you do multi tasking then it would be worth to go for the RAM

i've collected my second replacement unit yesterday.
sad to find out that the screen bleeding issue is still appearing on this second unit.
the guys from AASP actually grabbed another unit that was available at their service centre and did the same test, found out that its also defective.
now they will raise this concern to Apple's Engineering team to check if this issue is just by batch or all of the displays are indeed defective.
Apple might recall those models effected, i'm waiting to hear from them next week

Is there any overheat issue in the new MacBook Pro 15 inch with discrete graphic card?
*
not really, but i do notice that the fan kicks off at higher RPM on this current generation of rMBP when compared to the first generation

Apple is currently investigating

What issue? Screen bleeding? I just got my rMBP 13" 2 days ago (ordered online) and didn't have that issue (Thank God!)  sweat.gif
*
yes, screen bleeding.
so far, all 3 units of 2015 15" rMBP Models that i've got my hands on have the same issue.
i don't think its a coincidence
